@MrDOWNTOWNHO Sorry, I should have said 'air pressure' instead of atmosphere.
At that height, the air pressure is comparable to a vacuum, so there is negligible resistance.to the force of gravity. The highest speeds will be reached in the early stages of the fall. Then later on, as the air pressure rises, Felix will slow down to terminal velocity.
@MrDOWNTOWNHO there is no air up there bro. Air slows you when you fall. So if there is no air density you will fall faster. You dont hear or feel air passing you till your lower down.
@Cessnapilot03 If you actually watched the video you'd realize that not only does he know someone else did this, he's working with that man to make sure nothing goes wrong. He's trying to break Kettinger's record. You're the one being a douche here.
@Cessnapilot03 dude he will beat the guys record by some thousands of feet more you idiot. So actually no, no one has accomplished skydiving from the edge of space in which he would be close to leaving the earth's atmosphere.
@st0kx1 An attempted lawsuit from a promoter who says "he" had the idea to do this in 2004 was settled out of court and the group is making preparations in New Mexico to do this very soon now. But, no word on when exactly. But expect it will take place in a few weeks.
this sucks all tecnology. joe kittinger (i appolgise for spelling) done this years back nd with a split glove and went higher then expected.... he landed nd sparked a tab up.....HERO!!!
@FeelinGipper, you're the idiot. Kittinger is planning the jump. You'd know that if you even watched one second of the video. Felix what's-his-name is just the guy who they chose to jump this year. They tested the new capsule up to 160,000 feet so, I'm guessing that's the approximate jump height.
You guys are idiots. This was already done back in the 1960's by a retired Air Force pilot named Joe Kittinger. He rode a fucking weather balloon to over 100,000ft and then jumped out. It's amazing how jealous the human race can be. Not every country has to one up each other.
Actually, "edge of space" does describe it well enough. "Near space" would be another way to put it. He's not TECHNICALLY in space, because the definition of space is 62 miles (100km). So he won't be high enough. But he is so high that there will be very little air and he might as well be in space. There are a lot of the same effects and risks of space travel...the fact that he'll be in a near vacuum and that he'll be falling at supersonic speed.
oh i think i get it...Testing a new suit for further space exploration. One man alone cannot manage this thought physically. ITS DEEPER THAN WHAT YOU SEE HERE THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.
i think were somehow related, my last name is Bogaert and i was looking on house of names yesterday and a spelling variation of Bogaert is Baumgartner, so maybe? idk that would be cool to have a long lost uncle set a really cool record
@EuroSon99 that ,maybe true and all but when the friction starts to come in and starts burning up I'm pretty sure the suit would not save him unless they have some how applied the same stuff used for a spacecraft is applied to the suit. unless they have they found away of shields of some kind to protect him then yes I can see that but as we no of to day no human as never passed the sound barrier and lived. we have only got to Mac 3 if i am correct maybe mac 4.
The reason why the space shuttle (and other manned spacecraft like the Apollo ships, Soyuz, etc) got so hot is because they were re-entering the atmosphere from orbital velocity...that's 17,000 MPH. (Mach 25!) In this case, this guy would not be traveling anywhere near that fast. He would reach supersonic speed, yeah, but probably more like Mach 1.5 or so. Heating might still be an issue, but it would be very minor compared to re-entering from orbit.
So, this dude makes 2 pretty lame base jumps, and now 130,000ft? Hmm...Dude has a wheelbarrow named after his testicles, in which he hauls them in. Good luck my friend.
It's been done before in 1960. The sky diver went up to 31 KM (19.26 miles) and then just jumped out of his saddle that was tied up to a weather ballon or something similar.
'ratings have been disabled for this video'. Gee, could it be because the man isn't actually shown doing the stunt in the title of the video that I clicked on to see?? >.>
And the fact that some of you really think he might get caught in no gravity ceases to amaze me. A helium balloon can only go so high. And why is that? because the only reason its rising in the first place is because its surrounded by oxygen within the atmosphere. Once that balloon gets to a certain point it will stop rising because it will eventually because more dense than the air around it. Causing the balloon and the air around it to level out evenly, so he will just hang there till he jumps
Why is NASAs future in peril. Because it has never designed the technology to build habitable structures in space itself. It builds on the Earth and exports it to space. This limits the size of the structure and, meams that it is over-engineered to survive in a gravitational environment. Prefabrication and inflatable technologies can put huge structures up there at a low cost, this would get the business world interested and the real space age could begin, using economics not politics. Wake up
@jenenjisgarden Nope, last article I found about it from Oct. 2010 says that Daniel Hogan claimed he gave Red Bull the idea for this jump and that he is entitled to a portion of the profits from the event. Red Bull doesn't seem to have posted anything about it since January 2010. Likely it has been scrapped. Although with how long court proceedings can go, it is still possible that it is still alive.
Doesn't matter who the fuck does the record breaking jump, stop squabbling in court and get the damn jump done or we'll be waiting for another 20+ years
I always wondered about the sense of the lyrics "skydive to the moon" surely in a skydive the vital component would be a SKY! and to Dive means to plunge, submerge, dip, sink, duck, immerse. all related to moving downwards through a medium. so while I was being blown through the roof from the thumping base and euphoric trance it was always gnawing away at me how bad the grammar was...Damn you education,Damn you to hell. Savage vid too of course :)
Its never going to happen, they have been tied up in court as red bull is fighting with another party that claimed they had the idea for the jump first, sad as all the work that went in to it.
