@fishguy1974 In a reef tank, fish are not the most important aspect. It is just based on the reefers preferance. Sometimes when you overstock with fish, they will nibble on your corals. Just because of the competition for food when being fed.

hey im new to reefing i love how you get back to peoples comments and was wondering what type of lighting chemicals and if you could name your corals mainly the medium to larger
hi my dad is thinking of going saltwater so could you tell me what is more important having a canister filter and a wet dry filter or having a wet dry filter and a protein skimmer(it would only be temporary as he will buy the third in like a month) thanks
Just get a good skimmer, filters aren't needed. My water stays perfect for weeks with just a skimmer. That is, if you're using plenty of live rock and sand.
@mark2109111 get the skimmer and the wet dry the wet dry is a large biological type filter the sooner you get the canister filter the better as it wil a help mix the watter and you can use it to polish the watter slightly better then the wet dry if posible wait till you can get all 3 together or just dont start filling with watter till you have the canister filter . get a Hydor Koralia Evolution or two will help a bit mkix the water initialy
@mark2109111 no wet dry... just live rock and a protein skimmer. once you get more advanced you will regret getting the wet dry because it will require more water changes then if you just use live rock.
Love the tank....btw: nay sayers...these fish will live considerably longer away from predators & with an ample food supply...The tank is great. Wish I was brave enough for salt, but after 5 yrs of freshwater, I still don't have the guts!
Go for it, it ain't that hard. I never had a large fw tank and started out with a 75 gall salt. I killed a few fish the first couple months but since then all is perfect. The key is to let it cycle a couple months with sand and rock. It's hard to have that kind of patienence though.

Ok and how do you think fish are sold? Most of them are bred in captivity. It is true that some are wild caught, but most are not. And they can and often do breed multiple times in a tank!
@konafishlover you r stupid over 90% of the fish we have in our tanks are tank bred all my fish in my tank are and alot of others it is harder these days to get a wild cought fish than it is to get a captive bred and captive breds are cheaper so alot of people dont bt wild cought fish populations are depleating in the us becouse of hawaiis overfishing
@procharged70cutlass ok then to get kona fishlover to shut up lets all buy some aqua cultered fish and or coral for aqua cultured fish i would by from live aquaria for corals i would buy from reef systems
hey what species are the purple softies in the center called... and konafish...This is a soft coral tank and softie tanks are far better for reefs than other tanks because it they are more often aquacultured. I too am concerned for coral reefs and there are ways to keep a tank without harming reefs
@konafishlover, some species of fish and coral only still exist in captivity, so your welcome for not letting them die off because of pollution and other human factors.
HEY , I NEED HELP I HAVE A 120 GAL. IM TRIYING TO SET IT UP , BUT I LIVE IN A BUILDING IN THE 10th floor , AND HONESTLY I DONR KNOW IF IS TO MUCH WEIGHT , AND I DONT WANT THE FLOOR TO CRACK AND BRING THE TANK DOWN TO THE 9th floor. THE BUILDING IS BASICLY NEW , IT WAS BUILD IN 2001 . THNAX !
Not cool. Coral reefs are being decimated by fish collectors for aquariums. Fish in tanks live much shorter lives than fish in the wild. In Hawaii many fish are so rare that they can only be seen in tanks as so many have been taken off of reefs that they are nearly gone.
that is a beautiful tank and i hope to achieve your greatness lol if i may ask do you think a cskim1200 would be pretty good on my 72 bow front seemed like a good skimmer

@MEGAFUCKNDETH
Sign yourself up to a reef tank forum and start reading.
Long run you will save much time, money and the death of coral. e.g. less mistakes and yes you will make them. We all do.
Even then, don't expect a tank like this. This guy knows what the hell he is doing.
I had a small 1 1/2 foot cubed coral only tank. Believe it or not it was less work than my freshwater tanks.
But to get there with that confidence you don't want to know how much time i put into reading

Ok few questions.
First I love your tank in ever way possible it is amazing
Second how do you clean all the poo up if there is coral because I didn't think you could take the coral out
Third how much was that purple sea inenamy ( soz I don't know how to spell) that memo was playing in towards the begging.
Because I want to make tank salt water instead of fresh so I thought I should ask some one with a salt water like you.
O and one more question is it hard to maintain and how often do u clean
