I lived in Seattle when that samurai sword guy went apeshit. If you were walking down the street with that guy around you'd be happy the cops did what they did without blowing his brains out. Go down to Texas and that's how they would have dealt with it.
Your British cops must have amazing self-defense training. As a Canadian, I'm quite jealous. Are they armed with anything other than batons? Are they taught any . . . heavens, I don't know, martial arts?
@CCNuck They have pepper spray these days, but generally their training is more about not responding to situations over self-defence. We have special police with SMGs for certain situations.
@BartholomewBarty It would never stick in court. All the guy has to say is that he knew she was an adult just playacting as a kid and he let her playact. They did a similar thing trying to expose child-prostitution using adults posing as kids and all charges had to be dropped.
@BartholomewBarty I KNOW RIGHT! MAN (I'm American) I think that shit is SO irresponsible. Those people should be getting help not criminal charges. I hadn't heard about what WalterLiddy is saying, but those sorts of baiting-pedophiles-to-put-on-TV types of shows happen all the time in this country, it's ridiculous
@sphoney Exactly! Cops in numerica are always looking for a fight. Always. And because they want it so badly they find them. And we're supposed to applaud they're violent tendencies because it puts them in danger.
americans are hilariously bad at policing. mind you despite everything seeming to be such insane overreactions you can probably trace it back to the stupid gun laws
@ahabthewhaler I think it's more that both cops and the American public are taught to believe that policing is an extremely hazardous occupation, when statistically it's really quite safe. This encourages a culture of militarization in police units, who are taught that they are in extreme danger at every moment, and a culture of acceptance in the public, for the same reason.
@janeeyre1990 I think "Most Shocking" is the production company - the show itself could have ended up on any number of channels, including news. In any case, the original footage is almost certainly from a news team - it's way too professional for an amateur, and there are multiple angles in use.
I just noticed that the video lists TruTV in the credits, which has certainly billed itself as a news channel in the recent past. Mostly trial coverage, as I recall.

I think those cop shows actually make the British police look good. They build rapport to keep the person calm and friendly.

@sianchild Totally agree. Any ape can start a fight and escalate a situation. I'm quite proud of how our gentile gunless coppers come across.

Did Brooker call "Most Shocking" a "news channel"? It is definitely a show meant purely for entertainment.
