@rerevisionist louise robey was born in montreal to a british mother an american father and he was stationed all over the world. So growing up lousie spent time in london, paris, and canada so her voice reflects that.
@22centman36 - Hm, OK. I think I saw an interview, and she sounded very American. So the English voice sounded not to fit. But OK it's prefectly possible.
This woman married Charles Burford/ Beauclerk, a leading authority on the Oxfordian theory of Shakespeare. Unsurprisingly perhaps, they divorced ater.
@cyberlucy back in the 80's , at least in canada, they would kind of try actresses out ina variety of venus to see which one stuck. Vanity was also given a movie carrier, same thing with alanis morrestte. In american however, a person could onyl be a singer or tv artists or film artist and not all three. That changed of course over the decades which top artists tring their hands at everything they can to make money.
Come and check out some more "lost hits" and "chart wonders" like this one on a new internet radio station, "OffTheCharts!". The station plays the 70's (and some 80's) like you've never heard the decades before! Listen in for free!
Go to Live365.com and type OFF THE CHARTS in the Search box. Click on the station logo and the station should begin streaming. A link is also on my YouTube page!
Funny fact: The first time I heard this version was when a drag queen lip-synch'd to it at a gay club called "Tracks" in Ybor City ("Tampa" for those non-Floridians) back in 1989! Loved it (the song) then and love it now...
she is so hot..still looks good today...i loved her hair and she was amazing in Friday the 13th the series...which was a pretty cool TV show to boot.......
@AetherEthereal Technically this is the original music video of the song, it was released six months earlier than Murray Head's version, this version had lack luster success while Murray's became a global sensation.
Wow, Flatulence1. Your name does you justice, because you're totally farting out of your mouth. They were supposed to be in America. She couldn't grow as an actress into the Standard American from her World Accent? Go drink your haterade elsewhere, beetches. This version RULES. And I'm a chick, so you can't use that 'for the dudes' argument here. Suck it.
Louise is not American...she went to schools mainly in Scotland... St Lennards and many English boarding schools throughout europe...Her mother is Scottish and her father is English having grown up in India under the Raj... the hard work for her is trying to sound American...she is truly English but was born in Canada and carries dual citizenship...
As a fan, I understand that she's lived all over the world. I thought her accent on the show was charming, personally. It made sense because her character came from money and her accent gave one the indication that she went to finishing school. So when people start ragging on the accent I have to argue. It made perfect sense to me. Anyhoo.
As I recall, Head played the stereotypical "Ugly American" character in the play "Chess," and does the song in character. It took a very long time, however, to hit Broadway.
Louise sings this song so well that it was inevitable that hers would be the huge dance hit it was. This is also why Louise's "One Night In Bangkok" was an international hit... she ads a degree of class to the track and still conveys the message of the Chess character.
seems odd that you would pick on a world famous CULT CLASSIC that was done about the time you might have been learning to dance...This was written by ABBA and ABBA's lawyer gave the track to Louise to do her own version... huge concensus says she wins... anyway she has a gorgeous 5 octave range and this song was written to be spoken
loved her in those tight sweaters on friday the 13th. I can understand the lyrics better but this feels too much like being in a bizzarre parrelel universe...
It is truly awful. She was in Friday 13 - one of my fav shows (and you can find on this site btw). She's from Montreal, left for Briton, married an Lord and then divorced him. I think the worst part is the phony british accent at the begging, she then looses it. Good looking woman though.

I like the way Louise approached the tone of the song, which makes her performance of it a bit more edgy.
