this is the top of tennis, the best tie break I ever seen, They played 12 points, 8 winners including 2 aces on second serve, 0 unforced errors, amazing!!!
Some morons will bring up other rivalries to compare with Sampras and Agassi. Just look at this match and not to mention there are many other. One guys serves a 2nd serve ace at 124 mph. The other guy is returning serves harder than player nowadays at one of the best serve and volleyer till today. This was a match well in their 30 so u can imagine what type of game these guys had in their prime years. Come back and comment if Federer and Nadal is still playing GOOD tennis in their 30s.
@theone225 i think the borg' conners' and mcenroe rivalies are way better. Federer is a better player than nadal. Nadal's playing style is just perfect to beat federer's. also i think federer just needs to beat him again. then it might not be so onesided
Those were the days! Agassi-Sampras matches were even better too watch then Federer-Nadal! Like Federer said: 'That rivalry is intense man.' Second serve Sampras and his running forehand are one of the best i've ever seen. Agassi had the best returns and groundstrokes. One of the best match ups ever!
This was the end of a golden age of actual talent. obviously the top guys these days are very talented but these guys played with much harder to dominate with rackets and courts. courts were fast as fuck, and strings were like garbage can lids. these nylon strings that produced so much topspin coming in the late 90's and early 2000's made good players great and great players legends.
@masterofmucus depeneds on which era of courts they played against eachother in their primes on. if they played on REAL grass... or the 90's/early 2000's hardcourts sampras has a much bigger chance of winning a match.
pete would just about always lose on slow ass courts today in his prime against a prime fed
i dont favor either of these players going into this but 4:00 is easily the best shot of the tiebreak, if not the whole match. you can often see murray making a shot like that but he would slice, whereas sampras managed to get some topspin on a ball hovering about 9 inches above the ground while running. thats beyond magnificent
Y'all are wrong. Fed vs Nadal is a better rivalry. Sampras clearly won his rivalry with Agassi by winning 4 of the 5 major finals that they played in. Nadal has accumulated a set of accomplishments similar to Agassi's already in his young career. I'm not saying Agassi wasn't a great player, but he is the only one of the 4 players we are talking about who couldn't be considered a contender for being the greatest of all time. The only problem with Fed vs Nadal is they are too nice to each other!
If Sampras or Agassi didn´t get so many GS championships as federer, was because they were at their prime at the same time, and they were constantly fighting to see who was better, and that fight lasted a little more than a decade, now its a diferent story, federer is going out of his prime, (dont get me wrog he is one of the best active players), and Nadal has just came to his prime, he is 5 years younger than federer, so i think the rivarlry agassi-sampras is bigger than Nadal-Federer
@elpoderosobeto Absolutely agree with your assessment. Roger and Rafa are not in the same peer group. Roger is a generation ahead of Rafa. And Roger definitely does not play as well as he did 5 years ago. Thus, the Sampras/Agassi rivalry is the best men's rivalry of all-time. The only better rivalry was Evert-Navritilova who were almost the same age and played each other 80 times, which will never be matched
everyone hyas a big serve now s&v is dead rogers chip returns bother s&v due to it being so low and nadal just whips passing shots. thatsa poor statment to make plus roger got sampras on his best surface
you cant compare agassi and sampras to any players. these 2 were in a league of their own. this match was the best tennis match of all time by far..this really is the definition of tennis.
lol at you people. This video is about SAMPRAS VS AGASSI dumbasses! Can't you even fucking read?? How in the world has the discussion become a Federer vs Nadal?
@AdvertChild98 in my opinion agassi has to be consider one of the best 3 or 4 best players ever.he won the masters cup(and made 3 finals),open australia 4 times beating sampras twice, roland garros and made 2 finals.wimbledon and made 1 final,2 times the us open(made 4 more finals)the gold medal, copa davis 3 times, number one for 101 weeks,he finished 16 times!!in the top ten.he won connors,mcenroe,becker,edberg,sampras,federer,lendl,willander.....he even beated pat cash when he was 17 yearls old.
Yeah! The great Swede who than went on to lose the Final and handed the trophy to Federer.Everyone knew ones the story (of Nadal losing) broke that this was going to be Roger's first French Open title.Nadal was a huge loss cuz it practically gave Federer the Rolland Garros. Were it not for Nadal's recurring knee problem, things would've been much more different.Once Federer beats Nadal in the French Open final I will say ''yes he is the worthy champion'' cuz to be honest all other opponents suck
NADAL DIDN`T LOSE TO SODERLING BECAUSE OF HIS KNEE INJURIES! HE LOST TO HIM BECAUSE OF FATIGUE! He started to say that it was because of the injuries A WEEK after he lost! Everyone knows this! Just watch Nadal first 3 matches of this year`s Roland Garros (against Marcos Daniel, Gavashvili and Lleyton Hewitt), and you`ll notice how quick and well he was moving and that he won those matches with great ease...
And if it wasn't for Pete's Thalassemia Minor condition, he would have won at least 5 more majors. He definitely would have beaten Hewitt and probably Safin. His condition effected his endurance. And his French Open performance would have been much better if he didn't have the condition.
Federer and Nadal aren't the only people in this world who can play tennis. Besides, Soderling played very well to get himself to the finals, just ran out of gas there. Nadal's rough physical style of play was what got him to the No. 1 before, it is also what got him tired and injured and made him lose in the French Open
the returning of agassi is just phenomenal. Arguably the greatest server of all time in sampras has to come up with second serve aces because he knows anything less will be punished by agassi.
Anybody watching this video has to admit that Pete had the most beautiful tennis game ever. Federer is great, but Pete is the better athlete. Nadal and Federer are great to watch, but Pete and Andre were absolutely amazing. Pete will always be the best.
usually people would put alot of topspin on the second serve unless for the powerful flat serve, but Pistol Pete attack with the full power lfat serve at all time
Nadal just runs around like a rabbit. Once he turns 25 his body will break down and he will never win another slam. Agassi won slams well into his 30's! True Champion!
Saludos.
mcbrainsen not going to happen sampras 6 year ending number one nadal number one federer 4 years ending number one this would have been his fifth to bad federer 14 very far away still young guys coming to get him
Fantastic tie breaker. I remember waking up at 3:30 in the morning for this on a Thursday as it was the Thursday night final down under. Best match ever between these two I think. Andre wore down Pete in the 5th set 6-1.
I remember this. This was one of the best matches I'd ever seen. Sampras looked unstoppable. You "knew" he was going to win. But Agassi came through and went on to win the title.
Huh?? How old are you, one??? Do you know tennis? Pete has 14 slams. He holds the record. He's been retired and he still beat Federer recently. Pete has the best serve, he serves and volleys great and has great ground strokes. Nadal edge sampras in ground strokes but Nadal can't win with Sampras' serve and volleys. Nadal can't return like agassi so no chance for Nadal.
You're just a moron who doesn't know anything about tennis. Don't make a fool of yourself hahahhahahahha. A 35 year old agassi almost beat Federer for the US open crown in 2005 just to give an idea of how good Sampras and Agassi were. Don't disrespect two the immortal of tennis this way asshole. Nadal is not at the level of Federer, Agassi and Sampras. Please shut up.
actusally sampras almost beat federer at his age right now, if he was federer's age he would have got more energy to play better and more powerful too trust me I watch alot of their matches Sampras could beat Federer if he was a bit younger
i think it's pretty pointless to argue "what if". the game is so much different now and when federer was developing his game, he was (and still is) developing his game for the CURRENT game, and however many years ago when sampras was training in his teens, he was learning a different style of play. Even at wimbledon you dont see players rush the net as much as 3 years ago because the grass is now much slower. Sampras was a legend, Federer is a legend. I think we should leave it at that
I understand they are both lengends is just ppl are understimating pete (when prolly they never saw him play back then), I saw they have 50-50% of beating eachother if they were in the same era but still pete is strong, intelligent and can beat alot of ppl and no one shud judge him
ppl underestimate pete, borg, laver, etc because fed an nadal is now, and for most thats their only point of reference. Like funnyvids101 said, their are no greatest of all time but only great players. This goes for any sport, but especially tennis as there is no player that leads more than 1 important staistic to himself: Borg: greatest winning percentage; Connors: N of tournaments; Sampras: N of GS; Agassi: N of Masters; Lendl: N of GS-finals; Federer: Consequitive weeks N1=hard to compare
Please do not make stupid comments, I like Rafa but he has one tenth of the natural talent that Pete has. He may beat Pete on clay, but that is it. On any other surface, Pete would be in his head from the first point.
if they were in the same era, Sampras would maybe have won 11 slams and 6 a piece for Agassi and Federer. Remember, Federer has no competition until Nadal. Pete competed with one of the best generations in tennis - chang, courier, agassi plus all the big servers - Goran, Kraijcheck, Philippoussis. Tennis right now has Federer and Nadal. No depth at all.
Its debatable. Both played great in holding their serve in every game in the match. However, I recall the loser of the tie breaks playing quite poorly in each of those tie break games.
I've must say, that in my opinion, at result of this had decided one point...Pete was 4-3 and had two serves...but after first serve, return from Andre came down and hit the net...And Pete lost that point...After that, there was only worse...Shame...
I LOVED this match and this time in tennis...Andre was a near-Finals victory in Wimbledon away from winning all 4 Slams in a row...Agassi/Sampras played SO WELL off of each other
Agassi was brilliant to watch, imo had more natural talent than Sampras.

Federer at 100% would kick Sampras or Agassis asses, even if they were at 100%.
You can bet ur mommy in this...

fuck off ,federer can no way beat sampras or aggasi in their prime
naveenb12 3 years ago 3
actusally sampras almost beat federer at his age right now, if he was federer's age he would have got more energy to play better and more powerful too trust me I watch alot of their matches Sampras could beat Federer if he was a bit younger

i think it's pretty pointless to argue "what if". the game is so much different now and when federer was developing his game, he was (and still is) developing his game for the CURRENT game, and however many years ago when sampras was training in his teens, he was learning a different style of play. Even at wimbledon you dont see players rush the net as much as 3 years ago because the grass is now much slower. Sampras was a legend, Federer is a legend. I think we should leave it at that

I understand they are both lengends is just ppl are understimating pete (when prolly they never saw him play back then), I saw they have 50-50% of beating eachother if they were in the same era but still pete is strong, intelligent and can beat alot of ppl and no one shud judge him
LLNagashi 2 years ago
ppl underestimate pete, borg, laver, etc because fed an nadal is now, and for most thats their only point of reference.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
neither was playing at their best man it was an exhibition
rockerduff1231 2 years ago
this is not an exhibition, its the semis of Australian OPen. Agassi won this game and the title

Please do not make stupid comments, I like Rafa but he has one tenth of the natural talent that Pete has. He may beat Pete on clay, but that is it. On any other surface, Pete would be in his head from the first point.
walliegirl2 3 years ago
yeah, federer is much better

if they were in the same era, Sampras would maybe have won 11 slams and 6 a piece for Agassi and Federer. Remember, Federer has no competition until Nadal. Pete competed with one of the best generations in tennis - chang, courier, agassi plus all the big servers - Goran, Kraijcheck, Philippoussis. Tennis right now has Federer and Nadal. No depth at all.

i have to agree with you there, although i think Federer at his peak may have just dged sampras at his peak.

Nope, US Open 2001 Quarterfinal was the greatest.

No way. This one was.

Mer1945 4 years ago
I LOVED this match and this time in tennis...Andre was a near-Finals victory in Wimbledon away from winning all 4 Slams in a row...Agassi/Sampras played SO WELL off of each other

"Agassi was a near-Finals victory in Wimbledon"
When? In 1999 Sampras raped him in the finals in one of the most one sided Wimbledon finals ever.
Samprasisthebest 3 years ago
Really? How can you call 6-3 6-4 7-5 one of the most one sided finals ever??? That is an average of 4 games per set!
ThailandKyle 3 years ago
if u say so...i'll stick to my original statement if you don't mind....Pete played the match of his Wimbledon life (and had to) to beat Andre

Courts were so quick back then!
