Hey BOC fans, CHECK MY ARRANGEMENT OF THIS SONG, its in the video responses under Chromakey Dreamcoat (LIVE IN CAMBRIDGE MA). I would love to hear what boards of canada fans think about our music. GIVE IT A LISTEN or two. come on a journey with THE DAYDREAM
their music would be sooo much more interesting if it had words. I know sometimes lyrics/words can take away from the pure music. I think it would enhance this music. imagine if they said like 4 or 5 interesting things...hmm
@SoYahYah Interesting point you raise about lyrics, SoYahYah. Just as movie or film adaptations of books tend to detract from the reader's freedom of visualization by imposing someone else's vision, the presence of spoken (and often overly intellectualized) lyrics can interfere with the vast contemplative freedoms offered to the listener by engagingly lyric-free forms of music (which give listeners an ongoing opportunity to overlay their own unspoken lyrics in the form of moods, ideas, etc.)!
@BrucknerMotet yea I see your point. Its their style and its what makes them original, but I would like to here them at least experiment with some lyrics to one song. I think it would definitely make them more mainstream.
@SoYahYah I see what you're saying. There is of course the possibility that BoC's artistic vision does not permit the imposition of lyrics. They might not have any particular words to say, or they might feel themselves that words would sour the music-making experience for them. Perhaps a rap artist will take a BoC track and bust a move with it?!? Personally, I view BoC as basically an "operating system" in which I can run my own thought-mood-vizualization "applications." BoC vs. Microsoft!
@SoYahYah I disagree, but could only "agree" if the lyrics were used as another instrument, rather than a way to spell out a specific story. For example, Thom Yorke is often impossible to understand and his voice becomes another instrument. Similar (but often more literal) is the situation with Sigur Ros.
My God, the transition at 4:30... I can't remember the last time a song blew me away like that. I think my brain would melt if they made a full length track similar to that segment.
@gltichydethklok Ah-ha! I knew I had heard this somewhere way back when, but I had struggled to remember what commercial this might have played on. My sister also suggested that I heard it on Adult Swim, and now I think she's right.
If you like Boards of Canada, Helios, Hammock, Eluvium, Goldmund, Sigur Ros, The Album Leaf, and similar artists, you may like my stuff. I'd love some support! :)
I was actually listening to this on my vacation through Scandinavia. caused the music to come much more alive. Now everytime i close my eyes to this album (especially "slow this bird down") i got pictures of the breathtaking landscape running through my head and it feels like im there allover again.
@blackmoss267 Haha, my little brother was watching CN and an image with a rabbit came up and this song played and I liked it so I searched everywhere for it.
Boards of Canada are so awesome!! been a fan of theirs for a few years now. I think they are from scotland.. but not sure. my favorite band Mogwai is from there as well. GREAT STUFF!!
BOC's music has been in me for over a decade. my two girls too. i was proud to be the father of cool kids. i always found it a testament to the music when at the age of 10 and 7 they asked me to play BOC time and time again. that was years ago. their music is still our ether.
I love the pitch going in and out. Sounds like an old worn out tape. I recorded some piano stuff last year with a voice recorder and the way it sounded on tape perfected the piece I was playing. Had an old, nostalgic feel...
love it - im sure these dudes are from my neighbourhood just by the pentalnd hills outside edinburgh in scotland.. the hills and woods and lakes up there are awesome... i like to go wandering up there as often as i can and listen to this music - its perfect for being in amongst the nature -deep enjoyment.. thanks for sharing this - peace RX
@weeFILM Haha! I'm in the same neck of the woods, I try to get up to the Pentland range now and then it's such a ghostly place. Still havent found this so called bunker yet. Usually go up through the east and west cairns.
favorite thing to do in summer or winter go out have a fire in the middle of the woods blast some boards of canada pull out a bong watch the fire and listen to music awsome.
@Zellps0 i totally get what you're saying. I've tried BOC while on cannabis, shrooms, LSD, and still have to try it with mescaline, yeah, but each time is a different fucking trip :) even while sober it's magical
♫ For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 1 Peter 3:18
Boards of Canada are new to me. I heard a few of the songs on a TV show here in England, did a search to hear more and have been listening to BOC non stop ever since !!
@joydivisionthecure Nothing wrong with some LSD or DMT friends. Perhaps you should do some more research and then maybe you wont find them "disturbing".
@whishky had my share of DMT in many forms i went through that phase....for some its a life style...i am speaking from experience..had my fair share....your own brain makes DMT nothing wrong with that it was the LSD that disturbed me from my experiences ....its an opinion....one which im entitled to just as you are.....i have no judgment....i can not say LSD is right or wrong but i can say i find it disturbing....just like music writing is a freedom of expression.....opinions aren't offensive
@joydivisionthecure yeah man could have been some bad dose you know what im saying? Im not very found of lsd myself but thats just me. I'm more of a psilocybin person when it comes to psychoactives
Makes me wonder if you are speaking from an educated viewpoint. People will tell you it is a hard drug when they have never even met anyone who has taken it. It is a wonderous substance with far more potential benefit for your mind than most others.
This song reminds me of being on acid 100 km's away from civilization in the boreal forest / canadian shield staring up at the beautiful trees and sky with the birds singing and the moss and plants growing up around me.
@WiggaMachiavelli What exactly was wrong with my sentence? You're a fucking idiot because you're being close minded about something you have probably never tried. My sentencing is just fine you philistine.
I was watching cartoon network when suddenly there was a commercial fill with this song playing and I was all, "Dude, that's BOC!" So I had to listen to this song!
@GRANTURISSIMUS Perfect way to put it. I get the same feeling of listening to this as i did after i watched inception for the first time. A sort of just high state of thinking. I really don't know how to explain it.
@cassiusitsover forget where I heard it but evidnetly there are people (government?) looking for investors to get a colony started on mars just like in that Schwartzenegger movie. People who want to go are never coming back though, it will be a one way trip but evidently looking for willing participants. Look into it if you like :)
this song reminds me of a time when I was a kid and it was snowing at night, and i looked up, and behind some cloud there was these beautiful stars, and i sat in the snow wondering if somebody was out there, looking for us on another planet. i didn't feel cold at all, even though it was -20 out there.
i often used to stare at the sky and wonder about that as a kid. high five ;) you know what is strange? it reminds my friend and myself of winter also. i wonder why that is... nice username btw.
This song came to my alert on an [adultswim] bump and I've been tracking it down ever since. Thanx so much 4 uploading this is one of my favourite songs now. -Beau
HAha I was so high in Canada day that i wrote they're Canadians but they're great and that's all i don't give a crap where are they from ... but still you can notice there's a relation btwn. BoC and Canada itself which is the way how they inspired their band's name from the documentaries films of National film Board of Canada.
I get really depressed when listening to Board of Canada sometimes, an example is this track. I can barely explain it, but it makes me think that everything is nothing. Everything is so repetitive, it's kind of pathetic living for something like that and having no other meaning of intention.
Also, I agree with agentoranges, stop labeling music. Music is music and every kind of music has its own unique feel to it that it should not be catagorized.
I love Boars of Canada, but they are from Scotland, and not Canada :)
"Michael and Marcus have mentioned the documentary films of the National Film Board of Canada, from which the group's name is derived, as a source of inspiration." -Wikipedia-

HAha I was so high in Canada day that i wrote they're Canadians but they're great and that's all i don't give a crap where are they from ... but still you can notice there's a relation btwn. BoC and Canada itself which is the way how they inspired their band's name from the documentaries films of National film Board of Canada.
.. My favorate stoned band.
cheers..

They are the best in Canada nowadays with Crystal Castle .. I wish I'll get to know more great Canadian Music Bands. Happy Canada Day.

I love Boars of Canada, but they are from Scotland, and not Canada :)
