  • so why did they shutdown concorde?

  • gnark1ll1us and 0dessa87 - Thanks!

  • Love the "So long Concorde have a great flight......"

  • I've listened to a few ATC recordings; what does it mean when a plane is "heavy"? Outbound and full of fuel?

  • @madr309 Its an ATC code for a certain weight class of aircraft.

I think 'heavy' is over 200,000 pounds.

  • @madr309 heavy is the max gross weight an aircraft can take off with. heavy is one of the 4 weight classes in the 7110.65

  • American says "Cheerio" and the Englishman replies "Have a nice day" ... says it all :)

  • Remember it was an Australian that shut down the Concorde at BA. Red Oddington...

  • @warbird747 why??!?

  • amazing listen every ac wants to hold to watch and salute it soudns like, only right realy

  • Get shivers listening to this! So sad to see her just sitting outside the hangers now..

  • Sad end to great British Aviation, Excellent and chilling, never knew it was possible to go back in time, but the end to Concorde has done just that.

  • Beautiful but sad.

  • The big boss at NASA when he hear of the Concorde project say to make a passenger aircraft to cross the Atlantic at mach 2 will make putting man on the moon seem like a walk in the park.well history will tell you the the US made it to the moon but had 2 or 3 failed attempt's at a supersonic airliner, i think this is what makes Concorde so special

  • Funny isn't it. The pilots and controllers had good things to say about Concorde, etc. Only the politicians, accountants and ass-holes were against her.......

  • @Factnotfictionpeople Fuck them all Politicians of hell...

The Concorde was the perfect aircraft regardless of small failures. the technology of today could have fixed these flaws and further improve the concorde ..

  • I was there taking off in BA when I saw the concorde taxiing from landing.

  • red arrows

  • R.I.P. you wonderful nice "supersonic-bird"

I remember other equal "transmissions" when the last planes left Berlin Tempelhof the very famous airport!

One fellow starting in front of us got the TOclearence via the tower BUT did not read back. Some days later I saw him in Stuttgart EDDS and asked him: "Why did you not read back the clearance? To other times you make always a good transmission." His answer: "I could not read back due my tears were running!" Closing this airport was wrong!

  • iam hopeful there will be another ( and better airplane ) like the concord again

  • Sounds like Captain Mike Bannister on the coms.

    Legend.

  • @scotplane It was Mike Bannister who lead the old lady out of JFK for the last time. It is him on the com. he is so "very british".... I also like the comments of the other pilots.... sounds like "last farewell to a long time love affair"

  • @lordsinclair1975 Good good. I'm quite sad that, the time when I couldn't make it to the East Fortune Airshow a couple of years ago, he was doing a Q & A in hangar 4, the hangar where G-BOAA rests. :(

  • @scotplane The Crew on Speedbird 2 G-BOAG on Oct 24, 2003 was Mike Bannister, Jonathan Napier, David Hoyle and Robert Woodcock. All the radio com on Kennedy was done I think by Mike B. What I like most is the last farewell of the ATC when he tells them where to report next... "Cheerio".... good bye, old lady. Every pilot or someone who works in air traffic must get tears in his eyes when he hears this conversation

  • @scotplane It was Capt Bannister. He is indeed a legend, although I would suggest all Concorde crews, on the ground, in the cabin, or on the flight deck were all the elite members of their professions. Concorde was the finest aviation achievement the World has ever known, and I doubt we will see her like again. Goodbye, Old Lady. RIP.

  • the last thing jfk controllers ever said to concorde was "cheerio"

    how very appropriate : (

you were a fine bird, concorde...cheerio

  • Must have been great to fly them.

  • brilliant last words!

  • funny how they all request a hold in position with no support required... they all want to watch the last takeoff.

Cancelling these flights was a disgrace. BA not letting Virgin buy the damn planes to keep them running was even worse.

My father was recruited from BAC at Filton from the Concorde program to help build the SST in Seattle, until the idiots in Congress found a way to kill the program (stupid Mach 3 requirement).Cowards should all have been kicked out of office.

    This was a great plane

  • @HuskyMaxx Well, it's the stiff uppper lip factor. BA owns the patent on the paint needed due to the extreme expansion force the Concorde experienced during flight and didn't want to share it except with Air France (for obvious reasons) and Singapore Airlines who dry-leased a Concorde from them. In addition to Braniff International Airways who legally owned Air France and British Airways Concordes during the flights between Washington Dulles and Dallas-Fort Worth before continuing on to Europe.

  • Cheerio!

    Have a Nice Day!

    Excellent role reversal :-)

  • I wish I could of been in one

  • Awwww bloody hell I nearly cried.....You gotta love the Americans ;)

What a superb lady she was & what a step back for the UK aerospace industry :D

  • Fantastic - loved how other planes were requesting delays to watch departure... and comments from La Guardia even! But best of all are the very final sentences spoken each way....

  • Superb - Excellent upload. Thanks for not feeling the need to add music over the top.
