I was just run over by the current system. I got caught without a job or insurance when the illness hit. The current system has screwed me good. I need help but I'm just outside the qualifications for assistance. I now owe over 20K and have no income.

Under universal health care, the government doesn't provide health care, it only funds it. Takes the profit away from the mega insurance companies and puts the power back in the hands of you and your doctor.

Do we really need an inefficient, corrupt, multi payer system that insures profit for mega insurance companies at the expense of our quality of health care? The govt doesn't profit from UHC, you do, in the form of better health. Under HR 676, you would actually pay less.

Corruption is possible only when the governement interferes! You cannot bribe a private doctor. The system ensures profits of companies. And what is wrong about it? The system should generate loss in your opinion? Look at the healthcare system in Europe - it isn't efficient and the quality of health service is poor compared with the US. Recently, the CEO of Humana accepted $180,000,000.00 (that's 180 million) in stock options in addition to his $150,000.00 annual salary. Enough to fully staff and fund 75 health clinics for a year. I'm not against a corporation making money, but not at the expense of our lives. This is health care, not the auto industry, or consumer products. Please visit WHO web site for accurate statistics.

Yes it is! Doctors, nurses are a part of the market game! They provide services. If the CEO recived such a sum of money this means he's doing his job right! And again I must stress, that public healthcare leads to higher prices for healthcare services. And also is immoral! You cannot force me to pay for my neighbour's health. You're forced to pay to fund highways, the post office, police, fire, war, and the list goes on. Why is health care more immoral? Saving lives of every American citizen is more immoral than sending our sons and daughters to war?

Now, the state should provide only the police, courts and a army for defense. But this is another topic.

Unless you'd rather be driving around on dirt roads, your point is well taken. We can argue those points till hell freezes over. Fact is, within 2 years we will have some form of universal health care. The state of Mass just signed their version into law the other day. Calif. is on the brink, Virginia and Connecticut are right behind them and almost every other state is researching the best plan.

So I think your time will be better spent finding out which plan will be best for all of us, instead of arguing over the morality. It's my opinion that HR 676 is the most comprehensive, cost effective plan available.

I support some things, just not all. The reason I don't want the government to pay for more is because it is becoming less and less like the founding fathers planned. The federal government should never have become this big.

I don't pretend to be not at all afraid of nationalized health program; but I am more afraid of the US privatized. Pre-existing practices of insurance companies. Connect the privilege with job, lose your job, now where is your insurance? Not so many jobs to go around, it is harder for those with mild disabilities (such as Aspergers Syndrome)to compete for jobs.

Small business will no longer have to provide health insurance for it' employees.

After all we are already paying for it, the money is just going to health care industry profits instead of providing health care for all.

Yes - small firms should not be obliged to pay the insurece for there employees. But Medicare will force them to do so by higher taxes and prices!

You sholud read an old book - The state by F. Bastiat. If you want to get "free" healthcare and leave the taxes on the same level, there's something wrong with you!

In France they have to pay 20 per cent of their earnings for so called "free" doctors!

Simple - get the federal government out of the health care business. Federal government should protect the borders and provide a strong national defense, provide a court system, but little else. Most everything else should be handled at a state or lower level.
