i bet the class loved it ^^ had any of them ever heard of joco?
and thank you for editing it. the profanity in this song has always bothered me, and now i know where to find a version of it i can listen to with no fear ^^ thanks.
Nobody had ever heard of him but it gave me a chance to talk about Creative Commons licensing in a math class, which was great. Also, Coulton actually edited it for me. I asked him if he had a clean version fit for a classroom.
he edited it himself? that's... that's so cool! wow, i respect him even more now. it always drives me crazy when people get mad about editing "destroying the creator's original vision" when it's really just making it so more people can enjoy the work. it's great that he was cool with it ^^ good for him.

i totally agree. the feel of the song and the genre simply do not mesh with the concepts. i guess that is kind of humorous though in a "they might be giants" sort of way.

Ridiculously lousy song, why does nearly every fractal vid on youtube have this wack song attached to it!? I dont get it, it doesnt compliment a fractal video, it should be when the credits role on a bad disney film ( are there any good ones?)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I wasnt literally asking why this song is with a fractal vid, I can hear the twat singing about mathematics and Mr Mandelbrot etc, I was asking because the song does not all all evoke a sense of wonder as the fractal itself does. Since music is in the EAR of the beholder, I think anyone who likes the song needs theirs checked : (
a fractal is basically a thing that is the same pattern no matter how close you zoom, like a repeating pattern. very mathematically interesting and can explain interesting things, including a better solution to quantum theory
Someone really ought to convince Coulton to record a slightly cleaner version of Mandelbrot Set, though. This is the five millionth time I've seen it used in a context with the "fucking" censored, and it just ruins the flow of the song...
What song could be better suited for that than a song ABOUT the Mandelbrot set and the mathematician behind it?
Epsecially considering the creator made the video specifically for the purpose of introducing his class to the concept. I wish my geometry teacher would have used cool stuff like that.
Amusingly, I was just thinking that the fractal points were not being generated quickly enough to keep up with the music. =)
(The vid would have flowed better using a geometric progression wrt time, imho... the linear-time zooms didn't have the huge impact that even a _static_ fractal image represents... but this was BRILLIANTLY done in spite of that nit.)
I forget exactly how it works, but you take an value or something and run it through some calculations a number of times until it "escapes" (gets arbitrarily large). That value is then charted on a graph and colored according to the number of times it took to escape. values that "never" escape are colored black. Thats fractals in general I think. The mandlebrot set is one example of this. Its the graph they show in the begining when they keep zooming in.
damn, I imagine that is the flight pattern of particles like in atoms, and since force acts on other things and it causes it to move and interact with other particles, so all the atoms in everything do that. Im high
mathematics and fractals are (in a good sense of the word) pretty hardcore to me, but this is one of the most stupidly enthusiastic songs i've ever heard in my life.
I have no idea what this "Mandelbrot Set" thing is, at leas not until now. I heard the beginning of this song at the end of another vidoe and wanted to hear more. I'm glad I found this video, I actually learned something about math while doing my homework today. It's a bit confusing for a ninth grader, but still pretty!

Depends on what thing you are interested in the convergence of.
If it is c (with z_0 set as 0) then you get the Mandelbrot set, if it is z (with c as an arbitrary constant) then you have a Julia set.
