  • This makes me feel psilly

  • this song is amazing. thats one badass fuckin fractal lmao

  • Nice Fractal in my Channel

    Created with Mandelbulb3D

  • I hope you didn't tell the class that Mandelbrots run forever :)

I've got an example on my page of the end of the Mandelbrot set .

  • Mandelbrot's in heaven now. R.I.P. Benoit Mandelbrot 1924 - 2010.

  • RIP Benoit Mandelbrot :(

  • Mandlebrot's in heaven

  • I HATE THIS SONG aaahrgh

  • chaospro, nice :)

  • This song sucks the sweat from a dead dog's balls

  • WAIDAMINUTE! z[1] = z^2 +c?

    ... Isn't that a Julia set?

... Ah, who cares. THIS SONG RAWKS ANYWAY!

  • Depends on what thing you are interested in the convergence of.

If it is c (with z_0 set as 0) then you get the Mandelbrot set, if it is z (with c as an arbitrary constant) then you have a Julia set.

  • @MrIcePho3nix Depends on what thing you are interested in the convergence of.

  • What would happen if you were to zoom into the black part? Would it really be infinity then?

  • couse he censored it. he made the vid for school

  • *I* wouldn't have censored it.

  • Mandelbrot's in heaven... at least he will be when he's dead.

You censored the song. it goes "You're one bad ass fucking fractal" not "You're one bad ass *Beep Beep* fractal."

  • @CleansWithRag lol im prity sure he knows this if he censored it :D....i han has smartass? lol srry

  • I was telling people who don't know the song how it goes.

  • Jonathan Coulton can make anything even more awesome.

  • that's one badass fucking fractal...

  • i know it was just a joke so yiu know

  • woh the mandlebrot sets made of smaler sets! lol

  • Clearly, you have no soul. :P

  • Ok.

  • So go watch other fractal videos ya fuckin pussy.

  • I agree with kaewazz...I can't stand this song!!!

    Lots of other better choices

    for this interesting video!!!

  • @Yunginspirit Well, "Badass fucking fractal" In my opinion is one of the coolest lines in any song ever.

  • I don't even know math - and I can't understand how I can understand this shit from an artistic point of view when the mathematicians don't get it.

  • This is how all complex mathematics should be taught, with RAWK!

  • im on t.v with the mandlebrot set thing and im only 11

  • A very good zoom, and I love the usage.

What did your geometry class think/say about it? 8D

  • i bet the class loved it ^^ had any of them ever heard of joco?

and thank you for editing it. the profanity in this song has always bothered me, and now i know where to find a version of it i can listen to with no fear ^^ thanks.

  • Nobody had ever heard of him but it gave me a chance to talk about Creative Commons licensing in a math class, which was great. Also, Coulton actually edited it for me. I asked him if he had a clean version fit for a classroom.

  • he edited it himself? that's... that's so cool! wow, i respect him even more now. it always drives me crazy when people get mad about editing "destroying the creator's original vision" when it's really just making it so more people can enjoy the work. it's great that he was cool with it ^^ good for him.

  • "mandelbrot's in heaven, at least he will be when he's dead". Funny song, good video.

  • LOL love the censorship

  • Its the best song ever. Shut up people.

    JoCo is the man.

  • Your Geometry class are all very lucky. XD

  • Love it to death.

  • Nice! I love this song, and the video's well put together.

  • Let Z1 be Z squared plus C. And Z2 is Z1 squared plus C. And Z3 is Z2 squared plus C and so on!

  • *lol* remembers me to this: ... watch?v=5eI3gCWL-sY

  • best song ever

  • CoOl!

  • well at least i learned one new thing here... that someone wrote a song about mandelbrot!

  • I have no idea what this video is talking about. lolz =D

Of coarse Math has never been my strong point.

Or my area of interest. Not until Sho Minamimoto(sp?).

  • a fractal is basically a thing that is the same pattern no matter how close you zoom, like a repeating pattern. very mathematically interesting and can explain interesting things, including a better solution to quantum theory

  • Hey ctennenh! Cool video. Do you know what the lil scientist with lights is?? I really would love to know! thanks..

  • It's called the Li'l Professor Calculator. I had one as a kid.

  • JoCo FTW

    Mandelbrot Set!

  • all i can say is wow

  • A heart-shaped box of strings and wires... can change the world in a tiny way.

  • Awesome! And the song is PERFECT (in spite of the apparently necessary "bleeped" word!) "We can change the world in a tiny way...." INDEED!

  • Someone really ought to convince Coulton to record a slightly cleaner version of Mandelbrot Set, though. This is the five millionth time I've seen it used in a context with the "fucking" censored, and it just ruins the flow of the song...

  • ooowwl u said a bad word

  • It's in this song!

Granted, this particular version has it bleeped out.

  • can this be sent to itunes as a podcast?

  • uriel

  • Dude good stuff just not feelin the song man i can send u better songs for this fractal vids that music was too fast for vid :)

  • not to mention the smart-arse sentiment of it- ironical or not.

  • It's Coulton, of COURSE it's smartass >_>

  • Are you out of your mind?

    It's a Mandelbrot Set Zoom.

What song could be better suited for that than a song ABOUT the Mandelbrot set and the mathematician behind it?

Epsecially considering the creator made the video specifically for the purpose of introducing his class to the concept. I wish my geometry teacher would have used cool stuff like that.

  • Amusingly, I was just thinking that the fractal points were not being generated quickly enough to keep up with the music. =)

(The vid would have flowed better using a geometric progression wrt time, imho... the linear-time zooms didn't have the huge impact that even a _static_ fractal image represents... but this was BRILLIANTLY done in spite of that nit.)

  • what is a Mandelbrot Set

  • it's the secret formula in coca-cola, me thinks!!!

  • I forget exactly how it works, but you take an value or something and run it through some calculations a number of times until it "escapes" (gets arbitrarily large). That value is then charted on a graph and colored according to the number of times it took to escape. values that "never" escape are colored black. Thats fractals in general I think. The mandlebrot set is one example of this. Its the graph they show in the begining when they keep zooming in.

  • is the best song on the world

  • I need the lyric NOW!!!!!! PLEASE!!

  • damn, I imagine that is the flight pattern of particles like in atoms, and since force acts on other things and it causes it to move and interact with other particles, so all the atoms in everything do that. Im high

  • bad ass fucking fractal

  • The thumb print of god...

  • This is my religion, if ya know what i mean ;)

  • LOL!

  • Ok... I found the song on coulton's site... Really loving this stuff =)

  • I MUST know what the song title is... I love it!

    Great video!

  • Thanks. It's just "Mandelbrot Set" by Jonathan Coulton.

  • for what it's worth, the final image could pretty well pass for a sperm cell fertilizing an ovum.

  • I hate math, but the music in this was really cool, and the fractals were beautiful. :)

  • I liked the quaternion fractals (the gray blob thing) very neat cause it's 4D

  • "mandelbrot's in heaven! at least he will be when hes dead" that was funny

  • mathematics and fractals are (in a good sense of the word) pretty hardcore to me, but this is one of the most stupidly enthusiastic songs i've ever heard in my life.

  • I listen to this song once a day anyway.

  • I have no idea what this "Mandelbrot Set" thing is, at leas not until now. I heard the beginning of this song at the end of another vidoe and wanted to hear more. I'm glad I found this video, I actually learned something about math while doing my homework today. It's a bit confusing for a ninth grader, but still pretty!

  • lol same

  • Do you really need to bleep it though is the question. I mean it is a University class. I would think the students would use worst language.

  • i like your bleep

  • I am doing mathematics at Newcastle University in England...and I have always loved this song - great video for it.

  • pretty

  • Nicely done. I've been wanting to put a video together for this song since I first heard it.

Extra points for using the Little Professor in a supporting role.
