@thatkindofguy234 doesnt matter if you slam them anyway if they have it tight enough you're not getting them off, look at Pat Barry Vs Stefan Struve and Rampage vs Arona, Struve had it tight and defended against the slam by landing on him elbow whereas Arona didnt have a tight triangle or Rampage so when Rampage slammed him he got him off, and Silva got Sonnen with an armbar so he wouldnt be able to pick him up anyway

i just joined gracie barra in slidell, bjj is just an amazing art and far more practical than the tkd i took as a kid tkd isnt bad its good for flexibility and is a good introduction into the martial arts. a combined style of the two is what ill try to incorporate later if i choose to go the mma route

Their technique in terms of the Triangle Choke i pretty poor. They ought to rotate almost 90 degrees, so that they are at a right angle to their opponent in order to maximize the efficiency of the applied choke. (Which may often end up being a strangle, actually. And when I saw 90 degrees, I mean that's the ideal position, which is not always attained. An attempt at least should be made).

I really enjoy these breakdown vids and the streetwise bits especially. With concrete under you, things definitely change. For instance, a plain old double leg takedown could really hurt a guy if he was going down to pavement. By the way, my beloved Team Quest does now have a Gi Jui Jitsu program, & Sonnen used to have Fabiano Scherner and his black belt to roll with, so it was one minor flaw in this otherwise great bit of teaching to state that Sonnen had no such partner to train. @Desi9 Jiu jitsu is by no means one dimensional. A fighting art that combines locking, striking, kicking stand-up + ground grappling is not one-dimensional. Gi JJ is not useless at all in MMA, Even whn Gi fighting, you still take non-gi grips often. Jiu Jitsu is not used only on the ground., either. Get your facts straight and improve your spelling.

Jeff Glover also plays with it, says it's legit. BJ Penn has played it. And of course, Shinya Aoki is the DREAM LW champ, and his Rubber Guard is outstanding.

@joebeast15 It's understandable. With 10th Planet JJ being so new, of course there will be criticism. In my opinion, being 100% committed to only 1 school/professor is silly. I say train with whomever you feel helps improve your technique the most effectively. Doesn't matter if it's Rickson, Eddie, Marcelo, Renzo, or just your local instructor. Some guys charge can't afford $250+ for BJJ, and that's okay. The object is to simply keep training and learn as much as you can.

I have recently started to question that and started rolling with some Renzo guys down the road and have found that expanding and working with other people who have different styles is beneficial to everyone.
