the diner was pulled by horse in 1942 famous ppl like lucy ball the three stoogies and many more actors ate there not only is the food damn good id=ts a historic place . good food great ppl u got to try the famous garbage plate.....
When I went to this place I felt like I was in the wild west. The adults in Kenosha are nice but the teenagers in the age range of 15-20 are absolute shit. Don't even get me started on Racine.
Thanks for the nice review of the place. I have worked there for years, and while not in your video did recognize at least two if my coworkers. I noticed some people complained about our attitudes here. While I can't really blame them, I have to ask them to reflect on their own workplaces and the demands put on them. It is crazy busy all the time and if we gave everyone individual loving attention we would have no time to get anything done - there's too many of you! Come again!
Been there 15 years ago and I remember this gury who ate there all the time and he was seriously overweight. He died of a heart attack shortly after I say him there. But I remember that this place was great and I loved it. Its truly Kenosha and Americana. KHCP and Keno all the way.
Fifty years ago I worked in the building next door thats shown in the video. Bud, Florence and Don served up the morning coffee and donuts and made lunches to order, not with as much pizazz but in an
affable way that kept you coming back eager to see them and spend time as much as for the food.
My boyfriend and i were watching this and i was like "when the hell did this get here, i've been past there like millions of times and never seen it. " apparently it's the best food he's ever had. I have no clue, but i'm going to make a point to eat there now
Thanks for watching, and double thanks for your comments. I would guess that was not intentional, the way it is part of the "schtick" as it is in some diners. They may have lost you as a customer.
I am likely the waiter who offended you. I'm short, fat, grey and have a nose ring. Maybe you would be more ok with my approach if you compared my job to your job. Both of us deal with oodles of customers every day. And most of them have no damned idea what they want or how to get it. If you work at a slow business, this is not a problem, you have time to help and instruct people. But if your business is as busy as this one, you have to play drill sergeant to make it work.
It's a metaphor. Travel and reading are compared, not the same thing. Many people who don't travel much do read, and many people who do travel don't read much.
The world is a very interesting place, and yet some people have no interest in travel to see it. That is not to denigrate those who want to travel but can't because they don't have the time or money. It is meant to pity those with little curiosity.
born and raised in kenosha..go to franks diner every once in awhile..love that place.. i also know maddam hujik..and her husband and her 3 kids.. i went to lance.. graduated from tremper in 2005 and now in college.. EAT FRANKS!:)
@bigbooty2469 Hi - it's one of the Franks waiters here. You know that family? I really like waiting on and talking to them. Say hello next time you are in - signed, the old guy with a nose ring.
there are alot of them, just go to food network web site, and go to diners, dive ins and dives, and go to the episode where they spoke of pancakes, and I am sure they will show the location. Good luck
I was on their website, and also, saw them on Diners, drive in and dives, and I have to know this one for sure:
Where did they come up with the name "garbage" plate? I mean, was that just a way to make it memorable, or did they have some people reference it to that special or what? I await anyone who can answer that one.
Thanks for the video! I am a native Kenoshan who gets back in town about twice a year and I ALWAYS stop into Franks at least once. My friends and I used to go there all of the time in high school. Some great memories there.
Thanks for the comment! I had such a good time there. I can see why you feel that way about Franks. In my youth, in Pennsauken, NJ, we went to the Penn Queen Diner on route 130. I'm going there tomorrow for breakfast with my sister. I love that place. Hey, I'll do a YouTube review of that, too.

GARBAGE PLATE FTW

My husbands' favorite restaurant ...
was the "Van Den Berg State"...
a restaurant/hotel located in Leeuwarden...
a town in the northern part of the Netherlands.
My favorite meal was prepared in a town called Mestre...near Venice.
The world has such fabulous food....
just get a passport and explore!
Franks is awful.

I agree that the world is like a book, and those who don't travel have only read one page.
wildbill1911A1 2 years ago
depends on how you look at it. just cause you don't travel does not mean you haven't read a book. such bleak, vague, and close minded answers.

Franks Diner was a disappointment.

so I have the right to speak my mind.
If you don't like it...
who gives a shit.

wildbill1911A1 4 years ago
well they throw like everything on one plate,
onions eggs bacon ham and so forth
there is a lot of stuff in it just like the garbage and so i think that is why they call it that
they do have good food though
