wasn't too impressed with this ride. thought it kinda sucked, way way too bright in there. i think it would be much better if it were darker like pirates. Also just looks way too staged. Its hard for me to like much about CA. Disneyland just seems way more fun and complete. hopefully they will make it better soon so it will be worth the money to go. serving alcohol there isnt going to be enough. hope they can eventually pull it off :)

this ride could have been soooo much better. The building itself looks fantastic, but the ride....ugh. The first animatronic Ariel looks like Andy from Toy Story. They incorporated CGI projections in some areas, which clash with the ride and look cheap and tacky. They also left out the entire chunk of the story where Ursula tries to disguise herself, make eric forget about ariel, and then she tries to marry him and there's a big commotion to stop it. Other dark rides dont have this problem.
@kittykitty0204 Fortunately this year they will be replacing the hair for Airel in the under the sea scene as well as replacing the CGI with 2D animation along with other new effects before summer.
I hope they can make it much better, though they can't really fix the rushed ending, but it happens. I just still don't like how creepy ariel looks though :o

This was a great idea. I had wished they had done an all Disney animation version of the Great Movie Ride. Songs and animatronics for Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, Alladin, Lion King, etc.
It had some cool effects, but this ride is definitely a disappointment. It eats crowds, which is great, but after a twenty year delay, the end result isn't anything magical.
Compare that to the new Star Tours and it is even more disappointing.

I hate people who take flash photos on dark rides. It's infuriating since it instantly brings you out of this amazing world the imagineers have created for you.
I like that you enter through a ship and the ride operator looks like a cartoon. I like that they took the "old standby" of tilting the cars upward & backward at the very beginning (:45 - 1:12) like Adventure thru Inner Space and Haunted Mansion. I like its actually based on a Disney movie and not 20th Century Fox or MGM (Star Wars and Indiana Jones are great rides but move them out of the Disney parks). Officially the best ride to smoke pot in California Adventures.
I liked the ride over all, I do but I did feel the ending of it was sort of rushed. I kind of wish it was a lil more like the "ride" on the DVD, but it is very beautiful!! Also it has a hidden character ;)
i took a video of this ride on my ipod i would post it but 1. we got stuck for a little bit. 2. all you really hear is me and my cousin talking. and 3. i didnt even get to record the part where ariel is in her wedding dress that sucks because she looked so beautiful in it. your video is WAY better than mine!

I'm a HUGE Disney fan and annual pass holder also, but I have to be honest. This ride is sooo underwhelming. It could have been done so much better. It's boring and worth a ride only once. Also, not because it's a kid themed dark ride, it's just boring. Peter Pan's Flight and Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin are WAY better kid themed dark rides. It seems like they just rushed and put this together without putting a true "Disney" touch on it. I won't be riding again.
@hotrodvr Also that's one huge element that's missing. The whole sequence where Ursula turn huge in the movie.... It's completely cut out to the ride. They couldn't have minimized the happy ending scene and done something with Ursula instead. It could have been sooo cool. Instead you get this mediocre ride. Oh well there's other things at the park.

I agree with everyone saying the video panels were a bit pathetic- but I think some of them work. I like the one with Ariel on the ceiling in the beginning, putting an animatronic there would be tedious and unnecessary! And later on, when she kisses the prince is also a nice touch, because it shows her voice coming back. But the one of her transformation... CGI, no thank you...
But in all I adore this ride. They condensed it down nicely, though I wish there were more castle scenes. Fork!

I wnt t to disneyland in june and i remember it was so uncomfortable riding on this ride because for some reason my dad thought you could fit four people in those clam seats when it was only meant for two people!
Your first favorite is your one true favorite I think and my first was Ariel when I was three. <3 And I like, wanna cry because they've finally made a ride for her and I'm like shivering with the excitement to mayeb get to ride it someday soon at Disney World after it opens. <3 I hope they aren't gonna get rid of anything of Pinocchio's though. :( I love him about as much (or more than!) as I do Ariel.

@Powergirl5591 Okay but have noticed that all of the other Fantasyland attractions don't really put in iconic scenes from the movies? Like Snow White Scary's Adventure: They don't have Snow White biting the apple, the dwarfs digging in the mine, ect. In Snow White, they showed the Evil Queen fall to her death and Snow White lives happily ever after, Little Mermaid they showed Ursula dying (more or less) and Ariel and Eric kiss, and for Pinocchio, he gets turned into a real boy. There is only so much you can do in a ride. Condensing a 89 minute movie into 6 minutes is a pretty difficult task. Besides, you have to remember this is Scuttle telling the story how he remembers it... How they're telling the story...
@Powergirl5591 Have you seen any of the production work for this? It takes years of design and engineering to make this ride and make it look good. They probably didn't have the budget for the final battle. Ursula is already 7 feet tall as it is, and adding the final battle would make it probably more than ten minutes long. That's a whole extra section of set design, sound and lighting effects and animatronics. It's a lot more complicated than it looks, and you shouldn't make generalizations.

You're right, they need to show Ursula being defeated, but I for one am just plain happy with the fact that they even made a ride for The Little Mermaid... That was my favorite Disney movie when I was little and to go to Disney World when I was 9 and there not be a ride for it was kind of saddening. Now I'm 18 and theres a ride! I'm so excited to go again! <3 I CAN'T WAIT TO DO THIS! I've already cried like 5 times just WATCHING it! :')
Thats what Disneys all about, being a child and for the adults, being a child AGAIN. Not roller-coasters and thrills. And thats why I love it. <3 So, no Disney ride is a "baby ride" to me.

I wouldn't call her off because people in general will term rides like this baby rides because they don't have thrills on them.... But I wouldn't take her side, either. Because people of all ages are allowed to enjoy the magic and wonder of Disney animation and it's characters and stories.
@CosplayCore Pirates of the Caribbean (specifically the Anaheim version) is generally considered the greatest attraction at any Disney park and (until very recently) didn't include any Disney characters (let alone animated). It was built when rides were about stories and sensory experiences. Unfortunately too many rides are just roller coasters with zombie like roller coaster riders having zombie roller coaster experiences that last as long as it takes to run to the next roller coaster.

The anamatronics were so fluid and amazing! Granted, Ariel's hair looked odd a few times, and King Triton was incredibly awkward, but other than that they looked almost real!

Damn. why the fuck are the SAME EXACT animotronics from the under the sea scene at the end. they weren't present at the end of the movie. Were yall that lazy, I mean Ariel sisters waving goodbye would've been so much better, plus no giant ursula. The worst were those CGI screens I mean really Walt Disney himself could have put screens in the Peter Pan ride but he didn't. cause that's being lazy and LAME. huge disappointment.

All my life I've been going to DCA and WDW every ride was literally an experience for me. this was not an experience at all, it was a waste of time. I will always see this ride as the ride Disney rushed through to get more people to go to DCA. hope WDW does a revised version. idk why everyone is settling for less.
@MrMikotello Thats true. But I think the shadow screen was just so they could show her "voice" like in the movie. But I agree with you. I would have perfered a longer wait and a better ending animitronics than what they put. We don't care about the storyline of the ride, because we already know it! If we're gonna go on and see a movie we know as a ride, we wanna be blown away!

I wnt t to disneyland in june and i remember it was so uncomfortable riding on this ride because for some reason my dad thought you could fit four people in those clam seats when it was only meant for two people!

Your first favorite is your one true favorite I think and my first was Ariel when I was three. <3 And I like, wanna cry because they've finally made a ride for her and I'm like shivering with the excitement to mayeb get to ride it someday soon at Disney World after it opens. <3 I hope they aren't gonna get rid of anything of Pinocchio's though. :( I love him about as much (or more than!) as I do Ariel.

The ride looks good and I know the ride is coming to disney world next year BUT I hope the ride is different because 1.) The ride looks like the finding nemo ride but with better effects 2.) It another baby ride with better robots and 3.) THEY CUT OUT THE ACTION WHEN URSULA TURNS INTO A GIANT!

@Powergirl5591 Okay but have noticed that all of the other Fantasyland attractions don't really put in iconic scenes from the movies? Like Snow White Scary's Adventure: They don't have Snow White biting the apple, the dwarfs digging in the mine, ect. However, the big scenes are represented by music or in a really small scene (like the Ursula battle)

In Snow White, they showed the Evil Queen fall to her death and Snow White lives happily ever after, Little Mermaid they showed Ursula dying (more or less) and Ariel and Eric kiss, and for Pinocchio, he gets turned into a real boy. There is only so much you can do in a ride. Condensing a 89 minute movie into 6 minutes is a pretty difficult task. Besides, you have to remember this is Scuttle telling the story how he remembers it... How they're telling the story...

@Powergirl5591 Have you seen any of the production work for this? It takes years of design and engineering to make this ride and make it look good. They probably didn't have the budget for the final battle. Ursula is already 7 feet tall as it is, and adding the final battle would make it probably more than ten minutes long. That's a whole extra section of set design, sound and lighting effects and animatronics. It's a lot more complicated than it looks, and you shouldn't make generalizations.

You're right, they need to show Ursula being defeated, but I for one am just plain happy with the fact that they even made a ride for The Little Mermaid... That was my favorite Disney movie when I was little and to go to Disney World when I was 9 and there not be a ride for it was kind of saddening. Now I'm 18 and theres a ride! I'm so excited to go again! <3 I CAN'T WAIT TO DO THIS! I've already cried like 5 times just WATCHING it! :')

I wouldn't call her off because people in general will term rides like this baby rides because they don't have thrills on them.... But I wouldn't take her side, either. Because people of all ages are allowed to enjoy the magic and wonder of Disney animation and it's characters and stories.

@CosplayCore Pirates of the Caribbean (specifically the Anaheim version) is generally considered the greatest attraction at any Disney park and (until very recently) didn't include any Disney characters (let alone animated). It was built when rides were about stories and sensory experiences. Unfortunately too many rides are just roller coasters with zombie like roller coaster riders having zombie roller coaster experiences that last as long as it takes to run to the next roller coaster.

The anamatronics were so fluid and amazing! Granted, Ariel's hair looked odd a few times, and King Triton was incredibly awkward, but other than that they looked almost real!

that was the most mediocre ending I've ever seen for a ride at Disney.. Damn. why the fuck are the SAME EXACT animotronics from the under the sea scene at the end. they weren't present at the end of the movie. Were yall that lazy, I mean Ariel sisters waving goodbye would've been so much better, plus no giant ursula. The worst were those CGI screens I mean really Walt Disney himself could have put screens in the Peter Pan ride but he didn't. cause that's being lazy and LAME. huge disappointment.

@TakeFiveProduction but it's the little mermaid D: come on! I think it'd be worth it to wait a couple more years so Disney can make this ride blow people away, with better visuals. All my life I've been going to DCA and WDW every ride was literally an experience for me. this was not an experience at all, it was a waste of time. I will always see this ride as the ride Disney rushed through to get more people to go to DCA. hope WDW does a revised version. idk why everyone is settling for less.

@MrMikotello Thats true. But I think the shadow screen was just so they could show her "voice" like in the movie. But I agree with you. I would have perfered a longer wait and a better ending animitronics than what they put. We don't care about the storyline of the ride, because we already know it! If we're gonna go on and see a movie we know as a ride, we wanna be blown away!
