alot of people dislike and think this art isnt cool. but I can only pity these uncivilized brutes.
bharata natyam performed by females is an evolutionary advantage. it is symbolic, it is highly expressive (eyes, facial muscles, movements), its about coordination and grace, its also not just some ballard dancing whatever. its really advanced. its art form of feminity of the highest sort.
of course its this sort of thing that most people think is "uncool". when they jam their heads to MTV

This is a wonderfully thorough description of many aspects of Bharatanatyam dance. I'd definitely recommend this video to someone who was interested in hearing an overview of the history, meaning of the movements, etc. Oh, and she includes a *very* quick list and visual demo of the hastas (mudras) used in BN! People are always asking me where they can find these. This is a very well-done and well-produced video, and highly enjoyable.
Thank you very much for this video. I wish it had been longer and had offered even more explanations of the gestures/movements. Her expression, when she showed the gesture for "that other woman" was truly priceless!
The judges on the NBC show Superstars of Dance should have seen this primer video to edify themselves before they scored India's representative Mythili Prakash so low.
This is why I adore Bharatanatyam. And her explination of the different aspects of the dance is something I beleive should apply to ANY and ALL dances.
Thank you for this video, wonderful :) Her explanation is incredible and perfect. Her Abhinayam is beautiful and so is her singing. Bharatanatyam for me is a long beautiful journey, and I loved what she said at the end.
beautiful both visually and vocally. the theory that she recites is so touching. i have seen geetaji perform and she is amazing and her pieces have all the three bha, ra and ta... thank you for this video.

The beautiful temple dance tradition needs revival. It is a precious expression of bhakti & mysticism of the inner realms.
This artist is a national treasure & I hope can help re-establish the sacred temple dancers in the great temples again.
