The amount of time it takes for your teeth to move depends on each individual mouth, my teeth moved quickly so I had mines for 12 months, my friends moved slowly and took 24 months, it also depends on if you break it as it can double your treatment time, also if your jaw needs moved this can also take up time, used with bands or retainers

if you have a good orthodontist, no matter how bad your teeth are treatment takes 12 to 18 months. I'm getting mine off after 15 months! :) and I had MASSIVE gaps!

Extraction is done less and less as people become educated about it. If your tongue does not have the space to lie naturally behind your lower teeth, then it is being pushed back into your airway while you sleep. It was painful, uncomfortable (as i developed nickel allergy in my mouth, and had to pull out 5 teeth), and felt really drawn out, but today it is SO worth it, and i actually have people commenting on my "perfect" teeth. Makes my day every time :]
