with a 42 you should have several options but i do not know for a fact. I had a 56 and had several jobs available to me. And I am also going to basic this tues. the 26
i score a 42 on my asvab. the first branch i wanted to join was the air force, but the only thing i can do there is adinistration and i dont want to do that. is there any thing i can do in the uscg with my score. also, i used to be on medication for my a.d.d. does that automatically disqualify from the uscg? if not, what jobs could i get with a raw score of 42?
@defensorfortis2009 your kidding me 42 should have opened up alot more then administartion positions of course you are talking about the airforce they like higher asvab scores. my score was 63 and i had tonsof MOS options.
Actually, one Coast Guardsman, Signalman 1st Class Douglas Munro, won the Medal of Honor for giving his life to evacuate Marines at Guadalcanal in WW2.
Hey bud, what month were you there? Do you remember YN1 Shipley? He was my CC. I was RC Mark Williams. I too became a rescue swimmer On the USCGC Hamilton whec 719 iin San Pedro, Ca. What a time it was, I remember us chasing a dolphin poaching boat into Russian waters when a Russian Sub Popped out to engage us. GQ GQ GQ this is not a drill!!!!
Thank God for the Coast Guard. I remember monitoring channel 16 and listening to a rescue in progress. I was amazed at the professionalism and calm demeanor of the Coast Guard radio operator. Sounded as if he was in his early twenties but had a calming effect on the distressed skipper. Boat was on fire in danger of sinking but the radio operator kept everyone calm until help arrived.
I was a Quartermaster ( now defunct rate) Navigator and SAR coordinator. They merged us with the deck apes...(BM's) no disrespect. Its a lost art form and I am proud to have been a part of it.
Forgot to add...It brought tears to my eyes. Thank God I could and was a part of this under appreciated organization. Proud to be a Coastie...QM2 Randall
This was the first song I heard after graduating from CG boot camp in the spring of 1993 in Cape May, NJ. I often thought it would have been a cool recruitment song with action clips from the small boats and helos. Somebody else had the great idea that I did.
