If I wanted to find 4 or 5 PSU losses (pre-2008 since this is when this was made), you'd only have to go back like...12-15 months? Penn State has tradition, if you know anything about college football, you know that Penn State is one of the elite football programs, and except during the dark years, PSU has always been a top flight program.
And for this year, we could add your loss to USC, your loss to Penn State, and your loss to Texas (maybe not Texas, you were the better team that night but got unlucky).

Ohio State 2000 and 2004 highights would be pretty dreary actually except for a few key wins. 2002-2007 vs OSU is a great twisted statistic people love to cite about PSU. Also "Penn State since 2000....". We're not the same team we were in 2000-2004.
I watched the Rose Bowl yesterday, and I wanted to make some objective comments about Penn State.
PSU's run defense was outstanding. They looked even more athletic and aggressive than when they beat OSU.
The problem was, Sanchez made every single pass he needed to make--a lot of those passes were NFL caliber. I think PSU would have matched up with anybody else in the country, including Florida or Oklahoma.
Penn State would have beaten Texas, Bama, and Oklahoma. Florida maybe, Utah probably not. USC, well we already saw the result of that, but I think USC would probably have mauled Oklahoma like they did in 2004 anyway.
Penn State's always had great run defense, but the pass defense lately is why we've been having problems. Any pass-happy offense (unless we learn we can devote our entire defense to the pass to shut them down) will pick us apart. But I think we did a good job shutting down USC in the second half. Too little, too late, but still was happy to be in the Rose Bowl.
Uhhh . . . no, we definately wouldn't beat Florida or Oklahoma. Our secondary was way too weak. Utah would have probably beat us, too.

I don't think the Rose Bowl was a close game. A two touchdown win is not a close game. All I really said (or meant to say) is that it wasn't a nuking. But I agree that they were the true #1 team.

Penn State did dominate from 1993-1999 and then again 2005-2008, but 2000-2004 we royally sucked. I'll admit that. To me, we're champs because we won the head to head (overall + head to head). I mean, do you consider yourselves co-champs in 2002 with Iowa, since you technically were? Penn State did alright overall, a lot better than a Purdue or Michigan State. Along with the three championship years, 1993, 1996, and 1997 weren't too bad. So we've had six good Big Ten years. Not too bad.

2007 you're right, we underachieved bad. 2006 was a year where we ran into a buzzsaw and lost three close conference games but finished strong. And the 2007 loss wasn't one of the worst beatdowns by far. It was a winnable 24-10 at the beginning of the 4th, until Morelli's panic mushroomed it into a 37-17 loss. It pales in comparison to the 34-8 loss to Michigan in 1997. They got a 34-0 lead before calling off the dogs. 2001 7-33 loss to Miami wa bad too. Or the 1963 0-23 loss to Michigan State.

Losing on the road to Iowa (8-4) isn't much worse than you guys losing AT HOME last year to Illinois (9-3). Iowa right now is 12 points away from being undefeated, and Illinois was 21 points from being undefeated last year until they were rolled up and smoked by USC.

I agree that Ohio State has played bad in the national title game the last two years, heck they shouldn't have been there last year...but how can you even bring up the Illinois loss from last year? We got cheated on that fumble and that drive ended with a touchdown aka it would have gone to overtime tied at 21 if it hadn't been for horrid refereeing. You lost to Illinois last year, you pretty much backed into the national championship game. On the day of the Michigan game you were all happy to be playing in the Rose Bowl. But then LSU loses to Arkansas in 3OT, WVU chokes 13-7 against Pitt. Missouri choked away the Big 12 championship, and USC lost to UCLA. So if all that crazy shit can happen in 2007, why can't it happen in 2008?

Im very excited about the big game this weekend at the "SHOE". Ohio State looked great saturday against MSU and i believe that the seniors are now happy with pryor at QB. Did you even watch the 2005 game? You were dismantled. There were even some good plays from PSU against OSU in 2006 and 2007. But OSU only had ONE good play against Penn State in 2005, that Troy Smith scramble for a touchdown. Penn State will win the Big 10 this year. Mark it down.

I have the perfect answer to settle these "Differences in opinions". Why don't Alabama and Ohio State trade schedules for 5 seasons. Then, after Bama Goes to the title game 5 years in a row(not playing anyone who was worth a crap)they could give it back and say "well, play pansies is cool for some but we want to play real football.

It is very difficult to take you seriously when you state that 5 or 6 turnovers, for ANY team, would not result in a loss. If USC or OSU were playing Syracuse and turned the ball over that many times, they would likely lose.

LSU for instance plays Alabama, Auburn, Fla, and Ga, all in the top 25, 3 of them in the top 10. And yes the Big Ten has a better record against the SEC the past couple of yrs but there not playing our best. Take the SEC top 3 vs the Big Ten top 3 for instance and we come out on top every yr.

If I wanted to find 4 or 5 PSU losses (pre-2008 since this is when this was made), you'd only have to go back like...12-15 months? Penn State has tradition, if you know anything about college football, you know that Penn State is one of the elite football programs, and except during the dark years, PSU has always been a top flight program.
And for this year, we could add your loss to USC, your loss to Penn State, and your loss to Texas (maybe not Texas, you were the better team that night but got unlucky).

I watched the Rose Bowl yesterday, and I wanted to make some objective comments about Penn State.
PSU's run defense was outstanding. They looked even more athletic and aggressive than when they beat OSU.
The problem was, Sanchez made every single pass he needed to make--a lot of those passes were NFL caliber. I think PSU would have matched up with anybody else in the country, including Florida or Oklahoma.

Penn State's always had great run defense, but the pass defense lately is why we've been having problems. Any pass-happy offense (unless we learn we can devote our entire defense to the pass to shut them down) will pick us apart. But I think we did a good job shutting down USC in the second half. Too little, too late, but still was happy to be in the Rose Bowl.

I don't think the Rose Bowl was a close game. A two touchdown win is not a close game. All I really said (or meant to say) is that it wasn't a nuking. But I agree that they were the true #1 team.
I think we would have maybe beaten Florida, but if you disagree I won't argue with you. Oklahoma, yes, we would have beaten, although their offense probably would have scored a lot on us, we have the kind of offense to score on their defense. You may be right about Utah based on their win over Bama.

Penn State did dominate from 1993-1999 and then again 2005-2008, but 2000-2004 we royally sucked. I'll admit that. To me, we're champs because we won the head to head (overall + head to head). I mean, do you consider yourselves co-champs in 2002 with Iowa, since you technically were? Penn State did alright overall, a lot better than a Purdue or Michigan State. Along with the three championship years, 1993, 1996, and 1997 weren't too bad. So we've had six good Big Ten years. Not too bad.

2007 you're right, we underachieved bad. 2006 was a year where we ran into a buzzsaw and lost three close conference games but finished strong. And the 2007 loss wasn't one of the worst beatdowns by far. It was a winnable 24-10 at the beginning of the 4th, until Morelli's panic mushroomed it into a 37-17 loss. It pales in comparison to the 34-8 loss to Michigan in 1997. They got a 34-0 lead before calling off the dogs. 2001 7-33 loss to Miami wa bad too. Or the 1963 0-23 loss to Michigan State.

In that same time frame, Ohio State has shared the title six times, and won it outright twice. That means that in the last 16 years, Ohio State has been the champ, or co-champ 50% of the time. PSU's losing streak in the Shoe and against Michigan were just weird flues that needed corrected, and 2008 served that purpose. But they somehow tripped and fell in Kinnick.

Losing on the road to Iowa (8-4) isn't much worse than you guys losing AT HOME last year to Illinois (9-3). Iowa right now is 12 points away from being undefeated, and Illinois was 21 points from being undefeated last year until they were rolled up and smoked by USC.

We got cheated on that fumble and that drive ended with a touchdown aka it would have gone to overtime tied at 21 if it hadn't been for horrid refereeing. You lost to Illinois last year, you pretty much backed into the national championship game. On the day of the Michigan game you were all happy to be playing in the Rose Bowl. But then LSU loses to Arkansas in 3OT, WVU chokes 13-7 against Pitt. Missouri choked away the Big 12 championship, and USC lost to UCLA. Im very excited about the big game this weekend at the "SHOE". Ohio State looked great saturday against MSU and i believe that the seniors are now happy with pryor at QB. As far as PSU goes i dont know if this will be a close game or not considering they sucked the 1st half vs michigan and should've put IL away but let them hang around the whole game.

alright considering hes never even played us. but i will take osu ovr any penn state qb just bc all penn state qbs have sucked against us since kerry collins in like 94. but i guess u should feel confident heading into a stadium which u have never won in since u joined the big ten. i should also add that the capital one bowl is still better than penn states perrenial status of alamo and outback bowl. for a team that was supposed to come into the big ten in 94 and dominate, they haven come close

Really though... PSU is the best team in the big ten right now. With a healthy beanie wells OSU and PSU are about even because the rest of OSU's team is garbage. Really... for about the 3rd year in a row... the national championship is USC's to lose. I still think they were the best team in the nation the last two years... probably will be again. They would run a SEC schedule. USC always comes to play the big games... sometimes they forget the little ones

Okay. Well maybe if someone else could ACTUALLY win the Big Ten title for a change, then that team can get the respect back for the Big Ten. And if that team can beat an elite team that Ohio State has had great difficulty beating lately, then that team deserves all the praise in the world. As an OSU fan, I would love to see an Illinois or Wisconsin, or Penn State win a national championship if the Buckeyes cant (Note that I didnt mention Michigan in there of course).

Did you even watch the 2005 game? You were dismantled. There were even some good plays from PSU against OSU in 2006 and 2007. But OSU only had ONE good play against Penn State in 2005, that Troy Smith scramble for a touchdown. Penn State will win the Big 10 this year. Mark it down.

Why dont you do something impressive once in awhile PSU, like oh maybe win some games in the big 10. You lost to Illinois as well last year. You lost to Mich last year. Hell you even lost to Mich St. OSU went into your home and crushed you. OSU has only lost 2 big 10 games since 2005, you do that and then you can talk.
Also try not to have so many players get arrested, Im sure that helps the Big 10's outlook for the whole country. Nice try, but you wont stand a chance in the Shoe.

I have the perfect answer to settle these "Differences in opinions". Why don't Alabama and Ohio State trade schedules for 5 seasons. Then, after Bama Goes to the title game 5 years in a row(not playing anyone who was worth a crap)they could give it back and say "well, play pansies is cool for some but we want to play real football.
That's a great hypothetical solution, it lets us see how easy you have it and it lets you see how tough real ball can be.

It is very difficult to take you seriously when you state that 5 or 6 turnovers, for ANY team, would not result in a loss. If USC or OSU were playing Syracuse and turned the ball over that many times, they would likely lose.

If it were really an elite conference than PSU would have won the 1994 National Title, instead no Ohio voter with an AP vote and most Big 11 voters cast their #1 votes for Nebraska. Choose to poke fun at Ohio State's schedule, while ignoring some of the dandy matchups the SEC teams have this year (FLA vs. Citadel, LSU. Vs. Troy and North Texas, Tennessee vs. Alabama Birmingham, etc.)
Choose to ignore the fact that the SEC has a losing record in bowl games vs. the Big Ten since 2000.
Choose to forget that Michigan, the same team that got beat by appie state, defeated florida, putting up 41 points on them.

Everyone has cupcake teams they play each yr. The Citadel, etc.......but when conference gms come into play OSU still gets a cupcake schedule. Thats the big diference. LSU for instance plays Alabama, Auburn, Fla, and Ga, all in the top 25, 3 of them in the top 10. And yes the Big Ten has a better record against the SEC the past couple of yrs but there not playing our best. Take the SEC top 3 vs the Big Ten top 3 for instance and we come out on top every yr.

Choose to ignore that FLA also plays some "DANDY" teams like LSU Gorgia, Tennesee, Miami, Kentucky (Who could own every team in the big 10 exept "MABY" OSU) and Florida State. Tougher scheduel that any team in the Big 10.
