  • Doesn't Mil Mascaras have a history of no-sellin' A LOT of wrestlers? I hear a lot of his, but i want proof but its hard to find backstage stuff from this time on Tha Internet i would LOVE to know a website that could let me read on backstage incidents with wrestlers an whatnot could anyone help me? i love classic wrestling from 60's-90's anyone know a website where i could learn classic backstage info around these times

  • Harley Race defiende el Campeonato Completo NWA Mundial ante Mil Máscaras en Japón.

  • great wrestleing

  • I always loved Mil Mascaras' elegant aggression!

  • Harley Race was the NWA World's Heavyweight Champion on August 19, 1980.

  • Never knew these two wrestled each other, nice post!

  • Was it true Harley Race hated to wrestle Mil Mascaras

  • @styx4ever1963 well Mascaras doesn't look like a very safe worker... notice he doesn't even cradle Race's head on on the scoop slam. Also judging from videos I've seen Mascaras tends to shoot on guys and not let them get an upper hand on him. I would imagine a lot of wrestlers didn't enjoy working with him. He's great to watch, though.

  • @iknowme

aside from being unprofessional, back in those days, at least the best shooters were actually the on top of the card. Now we have to go to MMA to look for good shoot fights. At least the wrestling in this video was an attempt at a worked-shoot fight.

Hard for me to explain so let's just say that good ring psychology (believable matches) are rare these days in the WWE.

  • Do you have any matches of Harley wrestling Antonio Inoki or did they ever wrestle!

  • I thought he sold pretty good at 9:26 :)

  • why the hell you thing Mil Mascaras is dead? he's not, and still wrestling here in mexico, by the way, his nephew, Dos caras son's is Alberto Del Rio-Dos Caras Jr

  • all the guys that say mil mascaras doesnt sell, the aswer is he is the graetest wrestler ever a real legend with balls

  • Did Mil Mascaras ever sell in a match it seems like all his matches are all about him!

  • @styx4ever1963 that is why he was never given a World title run.

  • @styx4ever1963 He sold for mwe, but he like me.

  • @styx4ever1963 He sold for me, but he liked me becauser Ii restected him. I enjoyed working with him.

  • 30 years today!

  • THIS is the international incident Americans should remember this Saturday. Thirty years!

  • Mil Mascaras to this day stil can actualy wrestle and keep up not like flair of fucking hogan that should not wrestle anymore

  • @sindefeatist yeah keep dreaming. The bad thing is, Harley would have beat his skinny mexican ass all over that arena in a shoot- The real Mascaras has not stepped in a ring in 5 years

  • que tecnica la de mil mascaras lol

  • Mascaras screws up Race's leap-frog @ around 4:00. Great match though, between two real legends of the squared circle. I read somewhere that Mascaras didn't like to lose & was hard to work with.

  • tha mask is wayyyy cool..

  • this was the good wrestling not the trash most people watch today.

  • thank god for japanese wrestling.

  • Nice body on Mil.

  • Mil Mascaras isn't dead.

  • @JZS88 NO YET

  • some wrestler complained that mascaras didnt sell, but how can you sell if you have a mask that cant show the expression of your face. graham and foley complained about him, but coming from two wrestler that cant wrestle. I can understand.

  • It takes more than a facial expression to effectively sell.

You can't just pop back up when you take a particularly powerful move. If your opponent has been working a body part continuously, then you favor it throughout the match. Overall, you just do your best to make the other guy look good if that's what the promoter wants.

According to many wrestlers from Mil's day, he wasn't especially willing to do any of that.

  • yeah, I understand. but look at the other wrestler superstar billy graham, chris jericho and mick foley. superstar and foley were great entertainers and not great wrestler. chris jericho to me will always be a b+ wrestler. you have to understand mil mascaras was a international superstar. if he had a ego, you have to add alot of other wrestlers to that list.

  • And Mil Mascaras was the first masked wrestler to wrestle in Madison Square Garden, he defeated the Spoiler who was not allowed to use his mask.

  • Did Mil Mascaras sell for his opponents i thought i heard somewhere that he would not sell for certain wrestlers! This was a classic 2 alltime greats!

  • keep suckin that gut Mil

  • harley race looks like a grandpa at the pool.

  • Harley Race is a bump machine and a wrestling god!

  • man what a classic. i wish we had internet during the days of the territories. two of my favorite wrestlers in a world title match. it don't get no better. 10 star post. that's no exaggeration.

  • @takauthar it gets no better than this

  • Harley Race was so tough as NWA champion.

  • I would like to know from a real AJW expert--and here I am not talking my favorite joshi part of it but the men--it seems the Japanese fans just wanted to see the best and most famous wrestlers in matches exhibiting their talents and unlike in US and Canada did not get obsessed with storylines, feuds, and cutting promos. I would like to know if that is true and if we can learn from them.

  • In Japan it does tend to be much more wrestling oriented. You won't see a storyline like who ran over KENTA? Or who is Stan Hansen's bastard son? If they do tell a story it's got a pretty simple yet effective base like which of these two guys is the toughest and who is the man, and the only real way you can tell that kind of story is through matches. I'm not saying all of Japanese wrestling is like that, there are some 'sports entertainment' promotions out there, but puroresu is pure wrestling.

  • Bruno Sammartino is my favorite male wrestler of all; I would like to see the matches he had with Harley Race--they must be buried somewhere in Don Vinnie's dungeon in Connecticut. I also liked Race and Mil although I understand Mascaras gets mixed reviews from other wrestlers of his era; I find it difficult to agree with Hansen that Mascaras was so so as a wrestler.

  • hi dude harley race is my fav of all time i can tell u that race vs bruno only happened 1 time race was nwa champ june 1973 it went 60 min time limit race won 1st with a knee drop or as he called it atomic drop off top rope 2nd bruno won with bearhug 3rdwent 2 time limit race has said bruno blew up 3 time inmatch there is nofilm ofmatch only pix hope i helped

  • I find that curious; what is your soure? Bruno was known as a trainging fanatic who unlike Ric Flair did and many others did not abuse his body. I also think Race and Sammartino wrestled 2x in their careers.

Bruno had many hour matches with other wrestlers including the awesome Killer Kawalski and i think Ivan Koloff as well.

  • hi i meet race and bruno at conventions and talked to them about that match also in rac shoot he talks about this 1 match all they had bruno is also a fav of mine lookat wwe match results books bruno had maybe 15 ...20 hr long matches race 5 thousand nwa champ went 60min broadways all the time brunonever go60 on reg basis as race allday baby nwa bruno went 75 with pedro in 1972 but never could golimitevery night 1match by the way lou theaz was ref

  • @maxearl Bruno couldn't lace Race's boots! But he was fun to watch for ten minutes or so.

  • @flairfan101

A Flair fan-that says it all. Flair was so overrated he made Trish Stratus look underrated.

  • status quo

  • hello spenben.. this was sept 1980 race was still in the NWA for 6 more years and 3 more titles, please know the facts

  • Harley went from this to Vince's king in a very short period of time.

  • MIL MASCARAS!!!!!!

  • it sounded like the announcer called Mil's great dive a "Wheelchair Plancha".

This is a great match. Mil should have won one of the big three belts.

  • Ironic that 28 years later the first Mexican Luchador finally wins the NWA world belt. But hardly anyone knows about it. Go Blue Demon jr!!

  • Me too detchuck, I like Adam Pearce he reminds of Harley Race a little with his brawling tactics and spike piledriver. I also feel he has a little Nick Bockwinkle in him, because of his manager C. Edward Vanderpyle. Pearce is an old-school heel, cut from the same mold as Larry Zbyszko and Superstar Graham (of course he doesn't have the Superstar's build).

  • alcorderyjr ,don't waste your time with detchuck.

  • Race was my favorite NWA World Champion. The gruff, grizzled veteran. Plus, I love that dome belt.

  • The NWA World Championship was defended not only in japan but Australia, New Zealand, Canada most of the 50 US States plus The Caribean (sp)... and also Europe... It was truely a World Title, not only an American Title....

  • I don't think it ever made it to Europe until the '90s, actually.

  • @pronkb000 AWA and NWA both defended the titles in Europe through out the 60s and 70s.

  • Hey maddog, note how Mascaras doesn't even sell Harley's leap-frog of all things around the 4 minute mark. And in reference to your note about the NWA World Title, I like what Bob Trobich is trying to do with the NWA now, they've established an Australian title, New Japan has rejoined, they've reestablished their ties with Puerto Rico (IWA) , a new Mexican office, and now their working to build in Europe. Do you think we're headed back to a glimpse of the old glory days?

  • I like those American title defenses in All-Japan! :)
