I am two weeks in my natural hair journey, my hair is not relaxed or permed however I did color (highlight) pieces of my hair (top half). Do I need to do a big chop or transition? This is all new to me, please help!!! Brittanygardner21@gmail.com

@joana1 yeah, I think she transitioned for like 4 months or somethin, then cut the relaxed ends off....i'm trying to go natural too! i'm just growing out my hair and cutting the relaxed ends little by little =) good luck with ur hair!
@vdogirl92 Too much sulfates is bad for your hair but don't get caught up in it. There are other naturals on youtube (africanexport, leobody) who use sulfate shampoos and their hair is beautiful.
Hi Mae, I have a question about the shape of you hair. This may be a crazy question but did you get it cut into that shape or did it grow in that way-also if you did get it cut did you get it straightened out for the cut or was it cut curly. If it was cut curly was it done while wet or when dry? It's cute! Thanks!
@selinda2009 It may grow into that shape..I know mines does because the top and sides grow faster then the rest of my hair. Also alot of naturals cut their hair while it's in twists and do a light "dusting" because not everyone will flat iron their hair.

Omg your hair is beautiful! I am so totally going natural. Fuck what people say. I'm sick of my hair falling out because of relaxers. My last relaxer left me with an unwanted faux hawk. The scarf I use is like a satiny polyester (I guess) but with all the oils in my hair it gets all over my pillows. Then my face eventually gets it so I begin to break out due to oil on my face. Is there anything I can do to prevent that at least the oil on my pillow part?

What am I doing wrong?
Shampoo & deep condition every 2 weeks with Giovanni Tea Tree Shampoo or Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Shampoo. I use Giovanni Deep Moisture as a deep conditioner.
Co-Wash the other 2 weeks with Herbal Essence Hello Hydration or Tresemme Flawless Curls Conditioner.
Braidout with Giovanni Direct Leave-in & my own whipped shead butter & coconut oil mixture. I put a small perm rod on the end of my braids for an extra curly effect!Comes out great
Does anyone kno if it's ok to use a hooded dryer one to two times a week? I find my hair not drying from the braidouts I do the day b4. Example I did a braidout and finished b4 6p. I woke up the next morning at 6a and my hair wasn't fully dry. B4 the end of the day my hair was puffy/poofy. :(

my fave styles r braidouts vs twistouts b/c i found my hair "locks" after 5 days *yikes*!!
as for my regimen, i braid my hair n about 12-14 sections using any conditioner i prefer (knot today, or vo5) n spray aloe vera juice on the coated strands in sections. then, i let it dry. after that, i put a nickel size amount of carol's daughter hair balm on my hands n unravel (just about any oil will do tho) and enjoy!
i rebraid at night n big braids (bout 5-6) til next wash. easy n simple.
Do you know if the Doris New York Conditioner has silicones in it? I went to their website but they don't have a list of ingredients. Do you avoid silicones... or does it matter to you?

u mentioned that u use braidouts and twist outs as a protective style. I thought that a protective style was when your ends are covered or tucked in some kind of style. what is your definition of protective styling and is braid outs and twist outs considered protective styling for the hair?????

when you straightened your natural hair did you find your curls were a bit different after you washed it? I'm almost at a year natural and flat ironed my hair, even though it was beautiful and pretty long once i washed it my curls were not as tight and i could not really get my fro like it was before i flat ironed.

@cherryboboc Hi! I actually haven't had my hair cut into a style since I've been natural. I've only received trims. This is just how it has naturally been growing.

Your hair is sooo pretty my new growth is that texture and very thick like yours...I'm trying to go natural its been rough alot of shedding I did a mini chop but I want to grow out my hair a lot more before I get the BC...Its been 2 months of no perm so far and I plan to ben all natural...No more creamy crack!!Lol

Love your hair. I've been going natural since Aug 2010. I do not have a perm but I have so much heat damage from press and curls you would think that I have one. Keep up the good work.

my fave styles r braidouts vs twistouts b/c i found my hair "locks" after 5 days *yikes*!!
as for my regimen, i braid my hair n about 12-14 sections using any conditioner i prefer (knot today, or vo5) n spray aloe vera juice on the coated strands in sections. then, i let it dry. after that, i put a nickel size amount of carol's daughter hair balm on my hands n unravel (just about any oil will do tho) and enjoy!
i rebraid at night n big braids (bout 5-6) til next wash. easy n simple.

Do you know if the Doris New York Conditioner has silicones in it? I went to their website but they don't have a list of ingredients. Do you avoid silicones... or does it matter to you?

I dont know what to use for growth- should I just keep alternating or should I stick with styles for long periods. What did you do?

u mentioned that u use braidouts and twist outs as a protective style. I thought that a protective style was when your ends are covered or tucked in some kind of style. what is your definition of protective styling and is braid outs and twist outs considered protective styling for the hair?????

@Candygirl120384: Before you take them loose they are protective. At night when you braid them back up they are. WHEN YOU'RE WEARING THEM OUT...... they're NOT Protective Style. YOU CAN ALWAYS SEAL THE ENDS WITH OIL.

IF YOU HAVE A WEEKLY (Once a Week/Every Week) of SHAMPOO (non-Sulfate), CONDITIONER, DEEP CONDITIONING MASK or Cream w/ plastic Cap, LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER and then SEAL with Oil....YOU CAN USE THE PETROLEUM/MINERAL OIL PRODUCTS and DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT YOUR HAIR DRYING OUT.

Hi mae, I watched some of your vidseos and i must say you are very inspirational, keep it that way. If i should use a texturizer in my hair..is that going away from the 'natural' ?I recently did my BC and was considering it but want to know first if i would have to start all over with the transition if i used a texturizer. I just love your hair. I am so excited about my journey. I have been twisting my hair and i think the hair in the back is a different texture, its less kinky and sometimes my twist won't stay together. What can i do?

when you straightened your natural hair did you find your curls were a bit different after you washed it? I'm almost at a year natural and flat ironed my hair, even though it was beautiful and pretty long once i washed it my curls were not as tight and i could not really get my fro like it was before i flat ironed.
