Adore this film to pieces. It was favourite of my Grandmother and she would always sing me Look to the Rainbow and How are things in Gloccamora. Being from Ireland it just reminds me of home and her. Beautiful everytime i watch it.
This was a musical made to movie past its time ... Like "Hair" being made late in the 70's when we hippie Boomers had moved on. None the less, Pet Clark and Fred Astaire are at their finest.
Still tear up when I watch the film and hear this memorable song! Needless to say Petula says it best in the finale "May we meet in Glocca Morra some fine day!"
My Father played the part of Woody In a local amateur production of Finian's Rainbow in 1974 so this musical will always have a special place in my heart. My dad is now 70 years old and Myself My dad and my daughter have rejoined the company SVG for the 50th Anniversary show in June Cant wait to sing How are things in Glocca Morra and Look to the Rainbow with my Dad

Anyone know about a movie which involves a scene set (I think) at the end of a rainbow where someone goes into some light and comes out a butterfly/fairy. Another scene is some children (2 I think) going down a river in a small boat with a man and a dog. I'm asking people who've see this particular rainbow movie because I can't get it to look. If you recognise these scenes please let me know!!
My brother Craig, who died three years ago at 51, played the role of Finian at the height of his high school acting career. His younger siblings helped him memorize his lines and he lived with that Finian spark for the rest of his life.
I recall seeing this movie from the 70s. Just such a quaint movie that people dont remember like the wizard of oz but much better in my opinion. If my memory serves me correctly the audience never really knew about FA's pot of gold but an excellent story line in the interim! They dont make movies like this anymore. These movies today are just hyper garbage. . . More cartoon and special effects than theme or emotions.
Actually Fred Astaire danced in one final film Towering Inferno (it was with a woman he loved) and he was nominated for an Oscar for supporting role. It wasn't the big deal this dancing was with choreography. It was spontaneous. But Fred is my fav and this movie is too. I named my first child after a mention in Glocca Morra-Shannon.

As DEBOJU930. I can see one thousand times this film and each time it will move me again. No other musical could do so to me. Finian's Rainbow is magic.
dear friends from youtube,i am over 60,and i have seen this film in 1968,and many times over the years and i can tell you each time is like the first to me. i love it and i love pet as well.
This is a wonderful score, so full of emotion and tenderness--so different from life in today's world. And I believe that the last scene where Fred Astaire goes over the hill looking for another pot of gold was his final appearance in movies! Thanks for posting this gem.
@11777766 I'm afraid 'twasn't. He did 'Towering Inferno', Peter Straub's 'Ghost Story' and (shudder) 'Buck Rogers in the twenty fifth Century', sigh...
lol really? Wow she does a great job with the accent in the movie....that'd be so great if you could upload more dialogue scenes...I'd appreciate it sooo much!!! =)
I wish you had more videos from the movie up! I'm gonna be Sharon in a community production of the play and I'm having a hard time pinning the accent! I thought it'd be easier if I could watch Petula Clark and sort of mimic her....but she doesn't have a whole lot of dialogue in this!
To tell you the truth Petula Clarke is from Surrey,England. Hers is a strange combination for an accent. I'll see if I can get you a bit more dialogue uploaded
"Things are indeed hopeless. Hopeless! But they're not serious." Finian to his daughter. A moment latter he's climbed a berm and is tapping his stick and feet, twirls and walks toward the rainbow. For me this is Astaire's symbolic farewell to dance in film. And its a simple and gorgeous and optomistic one.
That is prolly the most astute observation I have ever heard. I never really thought of it that way, but you are right.
It's sad to think he really was not a fan of this movie, cause I think it's one of his best works, for all it's simplicty, it said so much about ppl, sociaty and where things were goig back then....and today in a way.
I agree, it is one of his best. I could not figure why he criticized it. But aside from this film his work on Battlestar Galactia as Starbucks' dad was good and his Loveboat work LOL. Thus scene makes me cry. I love this movie so much.
