On the BBC website, 18 of the questions are based on observational memory alone (the ability to remember what you see).  The tube porion that passes for "logic", visual memory plays a key role. Altered objects, morphed faces, and colored objects play a moderate role in v. memory. Half the questions problem solving plays only a minimal role, not a function of IQ at all. Not to mention that another 5 questions are based on optical illusions, which are not even a measure of itelligence.

Also to give you an idea, chimpanzees have stronger visual memories then we do. Why make an IQ based on a rather useless mental function? (unless I wanted to remember what color shoes Donna was wearing) Perhaps it is to deflate the IQ score, no wonder the average surgeon only got a 101 on this test.

If this is anything like the BBC Test the Nation test, then this IQ test is bogus. Most IQ tests are based mostly on problem solving ability, where visual memory and vocabulary make up a small portion of the test. This IQ test visual memory/observation makes up over half the questions, or plays a significant role. So someone with good logical reasoning but poor visual memory, can get an IQ score as low as 89, but someone with good visual memory can get an overinflated IQ score.

@vanderbilt887 because intelligence is not something you can measure. You can measure speed, you can measure weight, you can measure bloodpressure but intelligence is not properly defined. Somebody with autism is often very good at mathematics but you might find he's not that intelligent in social situations. There are many scientists who think an IQ test is not really reliable. Of course it says something about your abilities and I do have an high IQ but it doesn't show everything.

1. No one researcher is claiming or has ever claimed that IQ "shows everything".

2. IQ is purported to meassure intelligence, which is properly defined as a general capability involving problem solving, reasoning, planning, memorial, abstract thinking abilities, comprehending complexity and learning from experience (Mainstream science on Intelligence, 1994).

3. This does not, therefore, include social skills, emotional "intelligence", hand-eye coordination etc. These all have

their own value, but they do not fall under what is meant by intelligence according to 2. Therefore, to blame IQ tests for not adequately testing these is misplaced, as it isn't meant to test these in the first place (and no one is claiming that they do).

4. You still haven't given any valid argument as to why intelligence can't be measured, you have just restated your claim.

Everybody lies about their IQ, I have never met anybody that has said they have had an IQ below 134. The average IQ is 100, the smartest person on youtube probably only has an IQ of 142!

These tests are so wierd, each time I take an iq tes either on the internet, or at some school. I get a almost completly diiffernt answer.  Like so, 136, 145, 142, 102, 124. See?! It's between 102, and 145!

you cant say that someone is smart if someone were to be smart than that would mean they are knowledgeable in all categories of everything so you cant really test your iq.
