I played nethack and dungeon crawl stone soup, liked dungeon crawl more, still trying to beat ziggurat feature. Anyhow, you ADOM fans seem more passionate about this game than other roguelike fans, must be a cool game:) Nice video.

ADOM is a great place to move from Stone Soup after you've learned the basics of the genre. ADOM is harder than stone soup IMO but overall a more full experience. The game is genius really.

You know... The music may seem like it does not fit with these ASCII graphics at first... But the video rocks anyways!

ADOM is also freaking hard, but that is exactly what I want from a game, anyways, so it is all good. ^^

Now that's an insult for Adom... this comment made me to go and check Elona game play but NO. Adom is NOTHING like that....

Elona is more like "Nethack with wannabe graphics".. And looks like overall very sad try to make asc II game into graphical game..

Don't try to make asc II game into graphical seriously... It's no intented to be, and it's best the way it is.

And about adom? It's MUCH more deeper game than Elona appears to be.. >_>

I somewhat agree. I think that the only game that did tiles well was Dungeon Crawl, and even then that's just for people to learn the basics. Once you learn the basics it's good to move on to either Stone Soup ASCII, ADOM, or Nethack.

Right away when I first played this I figured out the save-cheat, but as I played I got attached to the characters and let them die to start over. So it was unfair for some of the missions but eventually I beat the game on my own with a Grey-elf wizard who I trained as a bit of an archer. I almost beat the game with a Draekling(?) warrior but Chaos got to him and I had no chaos remove scrolls. Ouch!

I used to scum this when I first played, and because of that going back to it now is nigh on impossible. :(

It birthed a passion for roguelikes in me though, and I've put save scumming far behind me through my other experiences. These games are so much better than any commercial RPG around now, as daft as that always sounds to anyone who hasn't been bitten. :)

But did you read spoilers during those three year? Did you save-cheat to restore your character when they died? I beat ADOM without either type of cheating, but it took me longer than three years! :p The firsst time I got to the end of the game I accidentally killed myself going into the gate, oops! So I would have beaten it twice.

This video made me want to try this game :). I tried hard to enjoy it but the lack of melee attack choices really got to me. Wizards are a bit more fun, but the whole spell system is very frustrating, especially when you lose a few books to door traps early on because you weren't fortunate enough to find a fireproof blanket.
