It's a shame we didn't get more of what GNR was based on (check out the Rumbo Tapes and old demo stuff on 02CBUCK's channel - awesome, bluesy, rock and roll) before the gloss was applied by the producers of AFD and Axl went all soppy on us.
I´ve heard all chinese democracy, and I think its a great work... guns dont need Slash and others, although velvet revolver is a peace of sheet, Axl can do it by himself... all things one day needs to change, so is guns,. who say chinese dem. is not good, dont know about music...
Though i hate Axl and his doings i must admit its not a bad album....but not a wowgood one...just worth to listen to it and stick with some songs.But dont tell me he doesnt need others.....just reconsider.

Forget what your conscious mind is telling you, this is Guns and Roses ladies and gentlemen. Axyl is THE voice behind the band and without that there is no G&R. His voice is still acrobatic and displays amazing textures. He doesn't want to write shit like Crazy or Sweet Child anymore,step into the now, and don't be afraid of what you hear or the genius of this effort.
I know G n' R won't be the same anymore, but this album has too much pop on it... it makes me feel that I'm hearing a Bon Jovi album (I mean the modern bon Jovi)... has excellent solos (of course), but I dont like this Gn'R sound.
My opinion is no based on the "I want old GNR again" mentality. I'm based on the music I heard.

Think about the album title. Chinese democracy doesn't exist. It's at best a facade, a manufactured cover-up of a more dictatorial reality. More realistically, it's an ideal, a hope, a dream.

Please stop calling it Guns N'Roses. There are no Guns left in Guns N'Roses. Those that co-wrote, performed, arranged & recorded a majority of their signature tunes, have all left the band. If this is a GnR record, then I would hate to see what an Axl Rose solo record would sound like. This is good rock, and has elements of the classic sound but ultimately as Nikki Sixx said, it's a solo record. When Duff, Slash, Izzy, Matt & or Gilby write with Axl again they maybe it will GnR.

Some news for you actually : Sixx is the godfather of Sleaze Metal and his band were the glam punk pop metal pioneers & innovators that GnR built on. He was even asked to produce Appetite but he was too mashed up. Anyway you ought to know your Rock history. You underestimate the contribution of Stradlin, Duff & Slash probably due to gaps in your knowledge and I can't be bothered to tutor you so look it up. Nikki is right, this is a solo record, not a GnR record, but it IS pretty F'n good.
Well, when you think about it, no one really knows who wrote what and how much they contributed. I love Izzy, Slash, and Duff but I always thought Axl was the main song writer, but I may be wrong. I will look into on wikipedia!
And in my mind, Motely Crue is a poor man's GNR. They wrote good songs but nothing that compares to Illusions era GNR.
We agree on one thing though, this album is worth the wait.

The other Gunners played the shit out of their guitars and yes GnR surpassed Motley in sales & yes Dr. Feelgood isn't as gritty as Appetite, but neither is Def Leppards Hysteria,they were big rock metal albums of 1987 & all have a different sound but if any1 knows about this genre it is Nikki & Def Lepp. so pay attention when they comment on GnR.

and furthermore who are any of you to be agruing over whats what and who is or isnt a guns in roses fan their last album came out over a decade ago... people change people grow.. its still gnr, just not in the past... grow up. i love axl.. and love guns with or with out the original band. and this i love is a very good example that axl is still gnr... its was completely done by him his voice is amazing and.. it gives you that same feeling as if you was listening to November rain.

Please stop calling it Guns N'Roses. There are no Guns left in Guns N'Roses. Those that co-wrote, performed, arranged & recorded a majority of their signature tunes, have all left the band. If this is a GnR record, then I would hate to see what an Axl Rose solo record would sound like. This is good rock, and has elements of the classic sound but ultimately as Nikki Sixx said, it's a solo record. When Duff, Slash, Izzy, Matt & or Gilby write with Axl again they maybe it will GnR.

It's not like Chinese Democracy is not a good record it's clearly very good, I have to pour over it for alot longer to say anymore but this song stands up just as well as anything Guns ever did, but it IS Axl taking that GnR sound forward in his own interpretation minus the others than contributed to the sound, which is sad and why it ain't GnR. Pro-Tools or not Axl sounds great. I.R.S, "Saint of Los Angeles" by Motley Crue & C'Mon C'Mon by Def Leppard rock the fuck out. Long live Sleaze Metal

Here's some news for you. Every GNR release is essentially an Axl solo album. He's a total control freak and he DID write most of the songs himself. Yes, we all love Izzy, Slash, and Duff and they wrote amazing songs, but Axl wrote most of 'em. And fuck Nikki Six, what the hell has that guy done lately? He's just jealous cuz Motley Crue was a junior GNR.

Some news for you actually : Sixx is the godfather of Sleaze Metal and his band were the glam punk pop metal pioneers & innovators that GnR built on. He was even asked to produce Appetite but he was too mashed up. Anyway you ought to know your Rock history. You underestimate the contribution of Stradlin, Duff & Slash probably due to gaps in your knowledge and I can't be bothered to tutor you so look it up. Nikki is right, this is a solo record, not a GnR record, but it IS pretty F'n good.

Well, when you think about it, no one really knows who wrote what and how much they contributed. I love Izzy, Slash, and Duff but I always thought Axl was the main song writer, but I may be wrong. I will look into on wikipedia!
And in my mind, Motely Crue is a poor man's GNR. They wrote good songs but nothing that compares to Illusions era GNR.
We agree on one thing though, this album is worth the wait.

Axl was the main songwriter and had the final say but that fact alone does not mean that every Appetite/Illusion/Lies were all solo efforts. The other Gunners played the shit out of their guitars and yes GnR surpassed Motley in sales & yes Dr. Feelgood isn't as gritty as Appetite, but neither is Def Leppards Hysteria,they were big rock metal albums of 1987 & all have a different sound but if any1 knows about this genre it is Nikki & Def Lepp. so pay attention when they comment on GnR.

Also, being the real fan that you are, you would know that neither Matt nor Gilby were original GNR. Like you imply. Gilby only did the Live UYI stuff and Spaghetti Incident and Matt helped write SOME of the UYI because many of the drum tracks on UYI were written with Steven.

Just coz it's got 'Rolex' stamped on it doesn't mean it's real, but thats why the imitation market is good because of buffoons like you who simply read the label and are fooled. Slash & Gilby worked well togather and Gilby & Izzy got along well too, and everyone liked Matt. They had great Chemistry in terms of writing/performing/recording and thats why I mentioned them. If you had any of those guys on board, fuck or even Tracu Guns u could maybe call it GnR but this is just Axl N Roses you noob.

You're a nobo because you fail to accept GnR was about being a GANG. That Gang mentality which fired their music, performances & recordings with that special element of danger came about from 5 or 6 combustible personalities working togather. 1 day maybe the REAL GnR will reform & then the real fans will have what they waited for, accept nothing less.

I think Nikki Sixx knows a bit more about Sleaze Metal than you and in his words Chiense Democracy is "a phenomenal solo record". This is all to do with Axl and nothing to do with the band Guns N'Roses. Thats not to say it ain't good, clearly it is, but it is NOT GnR & all real fans (ie. not you) everywhere know it.

bands evolve...the album is ok! not amazing like the appitite album, but it certainly doesnt deserve a slating. any critics who do slate it are just stuck in the 80s, the old GNR are dead...axl knows it and is just trying something else. the next few albums might see a maturity, its technically a 1st album for a new line-up.

The meat of any Metallica song is Hetfields rythem crunch, thats the Metallica sound. The GnR sound was Slash's guitar tone which is unique to him, I'm fucked if i know what this is supposed to be, what happened to the dirty greasy rock n roll band and what happened to Axl's voice? He sounds like he's hammered his nuts flat!!!
