  • This song always brings a few tears to my eyes. It says so much. What a classic. Of course, anything by Merle is great. He is such a wonderfully talented artist. I like the outfit he's wearing here. I wish he'd dress in colors all the time. Also, instead of a black one, he had on a neat white hat when we saw him at Renfro Valley one year.

This is some of the best of the best. Thank you for sharing this treasure. - Paula

  • You never hired a harmonica player Merle but I bet you liked it when Charlie McCoy made a smash hit on his instrumental of Today I Started Loving You Again. Harmonica IS A MAJOR INSTRUMENT OF COUNTRY MUSIC,

    Donnie

  • p/b-gary- nashville needs to take a look at what thay call country because what thay are calling country is way off bass

  • this is the true definition of country music.the other notables are jim reeves, ray price, marty robbins, patsy cline, george jones, hank williams rats there just isnt enough room.there will always be a special place in my heart for the hag.god bless the hag,and his family.and long live country music.

  • This is TRUE country music. I have no idea what this stuff is that is classified as country now. There is no one to replace the greats....Cash, Jennings, Haggard....they are the masters of this music.

  • Damn I miss TNN. But I also miss country music. Taylor Swift, Darius Rucker and Zack Brown. Get real. You may be pedaled as country but country you ain' t. Ralph Emory of WSM 650 Nashville, Charlie Douglas of WLS New Orleans, that was country. Todays country. " Program Directer, Same song every morning at 8:48am until it drops out of the top 50". Typical Monday morning meeting." Goddamn it. We dropped in the market. What the hell is wrong with you people?" LOL Get it?

  • This is COUNTRY !!!

I don't know what to call that other stuff coming outta Nashville these days.

Not all bad but it ain't country!!!

  • @jimkuppers to true pal

  • @jimkuppers I call most of it, homogenized country-pop.

  • @jimkuppers true

  • @jimkuppers Amen to that....

  • @jimkuppers right on!!

  • @jimkuppers call it anything but don't call it real country lol you are so right

  • @jimkuppers What's coming out of Nashville these days. Original country music was written by singers and songwriters who had experienced hard times, bad times, the depression, and being poor as dirt. Singing was their outlet and the songs reflected what they knew and how they grew up. Their life story was written in song. Today, most of the country singers have grown up with three square meals a day and very few hard times to speak of.

  • @lazysummerdayes7

some do and some don't..... the basics will always be, well, basic... lean in on this reality......... you're welcome

  • @lazysummerdayes7 Never mind in twenty years there will be a whole lot of people ,who have grown up through hard times .Thanks to greedy polliticians ,banks ,stockbrokers,so we can look forward to some great songs in the future.

  • @lazysummerdayes7 i agree entirely!!!!!all they had was love!! if it was too hard they had to split.yung uns now dont know what it is to be poor!!!sing about C-rap and i av enuff!!they make fun of true feelings in music..and say OOOOh cant they change it..stop singing about the good old days?)phhhrrriiiit!!!they dont know why it is and dont realise that country will go on and on.. after their C-rap is done ;-}

  • @lazysummerdayes7 mostly true... except for KK. He was born wealthy and was a Rhodes scholar. But he wrote some of the most perfect lyrics and songs there are. So it's about honesty more than poverty.

  • @dangervich I forgot about Kris.....but he is probably in the 1% of country music songwriter/singers.

  • @lazysummerdayes7 I like the 1% :) (the guy who invented the wheel was the 1% of 1%)

  • That's Redd Volkaert on guitar behind Merl! You can see him pretty clearly @ 2:53-2:59

  • Fawk Yeah!

  • The lady singing harmony with him on this video is the late great Bonnie Owens, former wife of Buck, and Merle's second wife. Though their marriage ended in divorce they remained best friends until her death, which happend just two weeks after Buck Owens death.

  • thank you for the historical perspective-merlefan. don't walk on the fightin' side of me!:)

  • Merle wrote that song to Bonnie. He was thinking about their live together and how much she had done for him and realized he still loved her. The words of the title came to him and the song was born.
