I wish someone had from this show Merle and Jimmy Dickens singing " Shopping for Dresses" and George Jones and Merle singing "The Way I am" two great performances.

I would love to see this whole concert again there are several performers and songs I would like to see again, for instance Merle and Little Jimmy Dickens singing"Shopping for dresses" and Merle and George singing "The way I am". It was one of the best shows that has ever been put on,I sure miss TNN it was a great network they take anything off that was ever worth a damn.
10 years from now that shit they call modern country will be forgotten. 100 years from now Merle will still be as relevant as he ever was. Greatness always stands the test of time.
Best to you, Merle. Tell Billy and Debbie cousin Whip says "howdy". Guess your music kept me alive in prison. Had two choices, suicide or wait for your next song. I waited for your next song. Thank you, Brother.
Willie Nelson said that he thought that this was the greatest country song ever written. From a man that has himself written some of the greatest songs ever, that is high praise and I certainly agree with him.
The incomparable Merle Haggard and Bonnie Owens, the lady for whom he penned this wonderful song...How much they must have loved one another. And how lucky we are to have glimpsed a part of their lives. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video!!
@maxi1049 "O" that is great ! let me know how much fun you had , wish I could go ..I have seen a few country singer in person ..I am glad I got to see Tammy Wynette she was as good of a singer in person as she was on her recordings

This song always brings a few tears to my eyes. It says so much. What a classic. Of course, anything by Merle is great. He is such a wonderfully talented artist. I like the outfit he's wearing here. I wish he'd dress in colors all the time. Also, instead of a black one, he had on a neat white hat when we saw him at Renfro Valley one year.
This is some of the best of the best. Thank you for sharing this treasure. - Paula
You never hired a harmonica player Merle but I bet you liked it when Charlie McCoy made a smash hit on his instrumental of Today I Started Loving You Again. Harmonica IS A MAJOR INSTRUMENT OF COUNTRY MUSIC,

Damn I miss TNN. But I also miss country music. Taylor Swift, Darius Rucker and Zack Brown. Get real. You may be pedaled as country but country you ain' t. Ralph Emory of WSM 650 Nashville, Charlie Douglas of WLS New Orleans, that was country. Todays country. " Program Directer, Same song every morning at 8:48am until it drops out of the top 50". Typical Monday morning meeting." Goddamn it. We dropped in the market. What the hell is wrong with you people?" LOL Get it?

@jimkuppers What's coming out of Nashville these days. Original country music was written by singers and songwriters who had experienced hard times, bad times, the depression, and being poor as dirt. Singing was their outlet and the songs reflected what they knew and how they grew up. Their life story was written in song. Today, most of the country singers have grown up with three square meals a day and very few hard times to speak of.

@lazysummerdayes7 i agree entirely!!!!!all they had was love!! if it was too hard they had to split.yung uns now dont know what it is to be poor!!!sing about C-rap and i av enuff!!they make fun of true feelings in music..and say OOOOh cant they change it..stop singing about the good old days?)phhhrrriiiit!!!they dont know why it is and dont realise that country will go on and on.. after their C-rap is done ;-}

I use to play in band years ago, this song was the most requested and is one of my favorite songs, he can make any song sound good ! I have an old record album (33 1/2 ) autographed by Merle. Wish he would come back to northern Minnesota
The lady singing harmony with him on this video is the late great Bonnie Owens, former wife of Buck, and Merle's second wife. Though their marriage ended in divorce they remained best friends until her death, which happend just two weeks after Buck Owens death.
Merle wrote that song to Bonnie. He was thinking about their live together and how much she had done for him and realized he still loved her. The words of the title came to him and the song was born.
This Filipino lady loves country classics like Merle Haggard's music. Great one!

@uglymoon78. Norm Hamlet is a great steal player and he knew what a fantastic singer and performer Merle Haggard was, made a great pair together.
