I'm selling my ipod touch and buying the galaxy nexus. there was a point in time when apple was once the epitome of companies for the smartphones, and now they're in the goddamn drain. @WindGod12 it depends now super amoled is 480 by 800 and now the new super amoled.plus.displays.has the samw amoumt of pixels but it has more vivid.color.and.better color resoulation
i used Galaxy S and m using i4.....the retina display feels a 100 times better.....and wats the use of big fat Super amoled screen if ur battery last barely for 3 hrs.
i think apple makes superior products from the user point of view and not frm developer's point of view.....and that is wat really matters......

And retina displays are almost completely useless, so many pixels on such a small surface makes no difference.

Look at it this way. The new Apple iPhone 4 now allows wallpapers and video calls (aka "Facetime"). I mean, really.. Nokia, HTC, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, and almost every other phone manufacturer has had these features for years! OH MY GOD! Apple is stealing ideas! Sue them! Sue them! The only people that don't think this is a dumb waste of time are the iPhone owners. I was one of them, but the iPhone operation is all very basic and does NOT allow ANY customization. Oh, wait, the wallpaper! Wow!
Lets look at this from another perspective. Apple is defending patents on such broad features, gestured unlocking, power management, and a lot of other shit that is just meant to be on a phone. The fact is that the patent office should never have granted these patents in the first place due to the fact that they are so broad. It's like me putting a patent on the word "Banana". Now no one can say, write, type or even think of the word because I have a patent on it. It's rediculous.

I agree with you Apple tend to lock down their hardware so that you can only use their equipment and iTunes software and people are getting fed up with it. People say the iPhone is losing share and relavence every year when the current model has been out for about 6months, then the new model ships and bam, up it goes. People have a very short and selective memory when it comes to bashing stuff.

If this was any other company up against a bigger competetor people would egg them on saying they're doing good to stand up for their rights. If you really must have a go about this, aim the anger at the US Patent system, it's truely broken, as some of the patents being used in this case show. Apple are well within their legal rights to sue, they own these patents, simple as. The companies copying them aren't innovating, they're just using Apple's hard work so they don't have to bother.

actually iphone wasnt the first to come up with "their" ideas. they were just the first to patent in such a broad way. full touchscreen phone was lg prada, firs phone with proximity sensor was made by nokia. an app store existed in windows mobile and nokia symbian devices way before the iphone.

This is absurd. Htc hd2 looks nothing like the iPhone! Apple did not invent touch screen nor did they invent apps. This is such a desperate move. Should the inventor of the cell phone sue apple or any other company for that matter? Apple products are ok... But this law suit is vey immature.
If you put any other company into the situation that Apple is in, they would do the exact same thing. It is difficult to argue whether this will benefit the consumer - On one hand, Apple can let other companies copy their OS, leading to other companies lagging behind the iPhone, and the only new things we will see will most likely be made by Apple... On the other hand, Apple can patent its OS features, leading to other companies creating their own functions, yet lacking iPhone OS functions.
If other companies copy most of the loved features of the iPhone's OS, they will practically have an unfair benefit over Apple - They will be able to copy the iPhone OS and make mixes between that and their own companies OS... I agree with Apple since as consumers, we want to see new things rather than the same old things.

And after the iPhone, it seems as though every phone out there is a cheap imitation o the iPhone, now the iPhone was the first smartphone that was actually easy to use. I tried some windows mobile phones and they were just complicated for the new user and the iPhone OS is so easy to use even to the new user, now i wonder why it's OS is being copied.

yes WPS7 is bad ass and i think it actually will dominate. I have the zune HD and everyone i let hold it instantly falls in love with the ease of use with the OS and are blown away by the nice visuals so i really hope that effect follows on the phones which are just like the ZUNE HD
Though I don't have Zune mp3 player I use Zune software on my PC to play music, videos. It's awesome. It's so cool, elegant, minimalistic and easy to use.

I think its great that companies are inspired by the Iphone but some companies are doing it to a degree where it is putting a harm on innovation. I hate to see so many companies making phones which are even called "Iphone killers" by the press because they actively produce phones with the idea in mind that they have to beat the iphone. If you think about it, all these other smart-phones are trying to steal market share from Apple & the way they are doing it is by producing phones which relate to potential Iphone buyers - & to do this they have to somehow produce a phone that has similar features. I read that some of the patents are things like gestures and swipes. For instance I believe one gesture their suing over is the finger swipe to unlock the phone. I could be totally wrong about the gestures/swipes so don't quote me.

I do wish it was more clear what they were suing for. The keyboard? multitouch? HTC has been making smartphones for a long time. I'm really not sure they copied anything. Although coping is always really funy to me when it involves Apple considering that whole thing with Xerox. I feel like this law suit is sort of free advertising for HTC which needs more brand recognition. I can't imagine that Google would not get involved.

yep this is how i feel. patents can be reinterpreted, the implementation can be alterted slightly and your in the clear. I love Apple's approach to products to the Mac and OS X. Multitouch is not the equivalent to flash on a camera, lol. Without flash you can not photograph in low light environments. Internet on a phone can be successful without multitouch. Multitouch = a luxury

And retina displays are almost completely useless, so many pixels on such a small surface makes no difference.

Look at it this way. The new Apple iPhone 4 now allows wallpapers and video calls (aka "Facetime"). I mean, really.. Nokia, HTC, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, and almost every other phone manufacturer has had these features for years! OH MY GOD! Apple is stealing ideas! Sue them! Sue them! The only people that don't think this is a dumb waste of time are the iPhone owners. I was one of them, but the iPhone operation is all very basic and does NOT allow ANY customization. Lets look at this from another perspective. Apple is defending patents on such broad features, gestured unlocking, power management, and a lot of other shit that is just meant to be on a phone. The fact is that the patent office should never have granted these patents in the first place due to the fact that they are so broad. It's like me putting a patent on the word "Banana". Now no one can say, write, type or even think of the word because I have a patent on it. It's rediculous.

I agree with you Apple tend to lock down their hardware so that you can only use their equipment and iTunes software and people are getting fed up with it. I'm picking up a HTC Desire in the morning an cant wait. In a nut shell I think the Apple ipod, iphone etc are brilliant but what spoils it for most people is Apples Ego and attitude. They won't even admit they have a high failure rate with their hardware. Bring on the rivals I say.

If you really must have a go about this, aim the anger at the US Patent system, it's truely broken, as some of the patents being used in this case show. Apple are well within their legal rights to sue, they own these patents, simple as. The companies copying them aren't innovating, they're just using Apple's hard work so they don't have to bother.

If you put any other company into the situation that Apple is in, they would do the exact same thing. It is difficult to argue whether this will benefit the consumer - On one hand, Apple can let other companies copy their OS, leading to other companies lagging behind the iPhone, and the only new things we will see will most likely be made by Apple... On the other hand, Apple can patent its OS features, leading to other companies creating their own functions, yet lacking iPhone OS functions.

I don't really care how much money Apple has or if they are being pathetic. At the end of the day., if Apple or any other company patented something & then other companies infringed that then they have every right to sue.
Apple are going to win this & if they don't then its going to be because people are going to be biased - which is not fair. People would take sides with a smaller company if it was arguing for the same reason & so the size & successfulness of Apple shouldn't effect this.

i fully agree. if a patent is not worth anything there is no point in patenting certain stuff.

I think its great that companies are inspired by the Iphone but some companies are doing it to a degree where it is putting a harm on innovation. I hate to see so many companies making phones which are even called "Iphone killers" by the press because they actively produce phones with the idea in mind that they have to beat the iphone. As a result you get many phones which you can't help but think of the iphone with. I just wish everyone would start innovating again, I don't want to see replicas

I don't think it is as pathetic as I first thought. If you think about it, all these other smart-phones are trying to steal market share from Apple & the way they are doing it is by producing phones which relate to potential Iphone buyers - & to do this they have to somehow produce a phone that has similar features. Why does every new smartphone just make me think of the iphone these days? Its because they are actively seeking to steal from the Iphone in some way or the other.

How would you feel if you spent years inventing technologies and developing a product, investing billions of your own dollars and then a bunch of dooooshbags come out of the woodwork and start selling the same thing and profiting off all your hard work (HELLO! why is apple worry they have 9.8% of market share and htc has about 2.1% and apple market share jump 60%+ that means that 1 out evey 10 phone is a iphone and i think that by 2012 apple will make a new os for the iphone. and come on where taking about apple who made the ipad ipod and the iphone and os 10. the new iphone 4th gen might have a new os and blow us away

I read that some of the patents are things like gestures and swipes. For instance I believe one gesture their suing over is the finger swipe to unlock the phone. I could be totally wrong about the gestures/swipes so don't quote me.

Apple has a right to sue and defend it's product.Just like it's ok for other companies such as Nokia to sue apple for patent infringement.Most of these lawsuits end up in settlements as pay back for lost sales.And just so you know the HTC doesn't stand a chance against the iPhone.The 100,000 and plus apps is what makes the iPhone popular and soon yet to be released ipad.

I do wish it was more clear what they were suing for. The keyboard? multitouch? HTC has been making smartphones for a long time. I'm really not sure they copied anything. Although coping is always really funy to me when it involves Apple considering that whole thing with Xerox. I feel like this law suit is sort of free advertising for HTC which needs more brand recognition. I can't imagine that Google would not get involved.

let's put it this way. Apple would win if HTC has an exact same iphone with an HTC logo on the back. but invention-wise, HTC made their own phone. true it works similarly, but that's like saying, only the 1st company that came up with tvs can make tv's nobody else. of course not, they are similar but belong to respected companies. if it's not a direct copy, there is nothing wrong with it.

Tv's are different. What you're saying with tv's is a monopoly. There is no monopoly with phones because Apple doesn't own rights to "phone" just features of their own touch sensitive interaction.

yep this is how i feel. patents can be reinterpreted, the implementation can be alterted slightly and your in the clear. I love Apple's approach to products to the Mac and OS X. But im loyal to no manuafacturers for any products. If they make a good product I'll buy it if I like it. If they make a bad product I'll make a video about how bad I think it is. Call me crazy but i think thats unbiased in my view. ;) Great comments guys. keep them coming!

lack78 doesn't appear to know what he is talking about. Apple isn't suing over the iphone OS, but the Mac OSX method of accessing and the language used for components to communicate. I'm going to post a video response. I hope he allows it. I would suggest he read and understand the actual complaint. Apple isn't defending the iphone but Mac OSX!!!!!! stick to user interface issues lack78, you don't know what your talking about when it comes to kernel enabling inter-application communication.

Multitouch is not the equivalent to flash on a camera, lol. Without flash you can not photograph in low light environments. Internet on a phone can be successful without multitouch. Multitouch = a luxury
And it doesn't matter if you or any other person "thinks" Apple's patents are absurd. Apple is the sole owner and seller of multitouch, which HTC infringed upon.
