I was stunned the first time I saw this ad. I was left thinking simply - Thank-you!
Lad at a place I worked broke his arm & we had a joke-whip-round, sent card & a pack of screw-top beers (pretty much need two hands to open :-) & some ''reading material'' - was his dominant arm...
Months later I was signed off work after a {insert reason here} and stress induced psychotic break. Nothing from any work friends. Even my boss didn't talk about it when I returned. Talk about elephants in the room!
I suffer from severe anxiety and I have panic attacks at school so I can relate to this advert from the impressions people get of me. My best friend suffers from bipolar disorder. People at school think she's insane and make fun of her behind her back while I'm talking to her like a normal human being. People don't get how I can talk to her, and I reply with saying 'She's like us, she can still function properly.' I love this advert, and hope more teenagers see this.
As an anxiety sufferer, I don't like this advert. People saying it's good I'm back and asking me how I am, only reminds me WHY I'm not well. And that can make me anxious again.
Why is everything pale grey in modern life? Clothes, interiors, cars... It's genuinely making me ill. Have we abolished colour? What does that say about us? I've tried to talk to people about this, but they say they haven't noticed! Yet it couldn't be more blatant: this ad says it all. No wonder Chad's been off work! If I had to go into that Stalinist, grey, characterless office full of grey-clothed, characterless drones each day I'd flipping hang myself! If anything Chad is sane for not going!!
@blowerhell interesting point, i hadn't noticed but now you point it out i realize it's true. I guess it's because it's a neutral thing and is just supposed to represent normality...maybe
Great advert and about time too. But why oh why is it only shown post watershed. It seems it's been excepted but only at a level for adult viewers. EVERYONE including our children should be aware of mental health issues to stop the stigma.
Good ad, but possibly unrealistic. Let me explain:
-good because it shows that nyone can be affected my mental illness, including people whom society would usually describe as 'normal'.
-unrealistic because because our hero would be unlikely to have a job to go back to. It is illegal to sack you for mental illness but there are ways to push people out without being honest. I suffer from poor mental health and have been disposed of twice because of it. The excuse given was 'economic redundancy'.
I'm currently off work due to a mental illness and this advert says everything that I'm scared of facing when I do go back. I'm worried what people will say, do I want them to ask me how I am or completely ignore it ... neither is good... but if I can have the courage to admit that yes I still struggle but am on the path to recovery then I think that says a lot more about me than if I said "oh yeah im fine now thanks" which quite clearly is not the truth. I admire the advert makers so much! ♥
The add ain't actuallyyyy real guys :L but it would speak for a lot of people I suppose. I don't really know anyone today that DOESNT have a mental illness... it's not uncommon but people including myself cover up with small talk and very rarely open up.
@bowen192 our a low life sucker with no job nor no emotions or empathy!!
Now regarding someones mental health what you said 'You were sacked because you're a work-shy cunt who blames all your problems on everyone else.' would be a cause for concern i.e. boardering on a psychopath, who have no emotions you horrible fucker!!!
I haven't been able to find work in over 2 years because of ongoing mental illness stemmed from numerous nervous break downs, this guy is lucky to have a job to go back to xx
I've been trying to find this video since seeing it on tv, I wanted to find it simply to say I thought this was REALLY brilliant, I was the most stereotypically "normal" guy you could imagine but after a long time illness I have been left with anxiety etc and am slowly making a fight back. It's important for people to treat mental illness NO DIFFERENT from physical illness as the two are just the same essentially in that they are an illness and can be treated and helped.

I think they need more adverts like this, especially for disorders like bipolar because there are so many misconceptions

Good advert. Although lucky for the bloke in the ad to be back to work from a mental illness.
I wasn't so lucky. My employers sacked me.
