  • Watching this you get a sense of what a powerful singer and performer he is...the rudimentary piano playing just disappears behind his singing. And really still a kid in this clip.

  • "one night seed of a tumble weed in the belly of a rolling stone" dude can write always could--sing too

  • i'm obsessed with his sweaters. and his voice. :)

  • JT is rocking some killer sweater(s) in this session.

  • bellissimo stupendo!!

  • Can someone please tell me what the chords are?

  • Thank you thank you for posting.

  • Piano Piano Piano....

  • I'd bet that James could sing the phone book while thumping on a shoe box and it would sound pretty good.

  • When I was in High School every guy wanted be james and all the girls wanted to be with james.

  • @mikeao54 my first boyfriend looked just like him as he appears here. dreamboat. we went to school in SE Fl.

  • Who sings that song anyways?

    Brian:James Taylor.

    Stewie:Ya,let's keep it that way.

I always use that joke now. =)

  • Did JT invent the Billy Joel sound?

  • rockypants said this song is awful... it kind of is. JT turns a throwaway lousy song and 2 chords on a piano that he can't even play into something amazing. this is both self-indulgent and an act of bravery. And an amazing voice.

  • @hhhbunny fuck rockypants and the pants he road in on

  • the instruments usually carry the lyrics and melody through a song. in this case, James uses those two chords as a constant, more of a percussion than anything. and his voice changes to create distinctly different sounding parts to the song. if he hadn't stated it, I wouldn't have noticed just how simple this one is.

  • ... adorable.

  • anyone know is this concert available on dvd? also, anyone in Ireland or the UK, this whole concert is on bbc 4 as we speak.

  • @eimead iplayer

  • "This is a piano!" LOL Not only is he a fantastic guitar singer/songwriter but he also has a great sense of humour when he plays live. If you have yet to see James Taylor live, make sure you do! Saw him in Edinburgh, Scotland and it is still my favourite concert I have been to.

  • Thinking of you, E.

  • JT. My number one favorite songwriter and performer in the world.

That being said, this song is awful.

  • @rockyPants4000 hmm okay

  • @arcidiaa Well, I'll put it to you this way. Having seen how songs are written, and how musicians work - some songs are written in 5 minutes, due to serious inspiration from a lot of beers or a lot of green. This sounds like one of those songs.

JT evolved from here into some great stuff, so I have no complaints.

  • Sublime JT at his very best

  • Hey guys! If you like this music I hope you would like to come to my channel and listen to one of my tracks. Take care!!

  • Who sings this song?

    James Taylor.

Yah, lets keep it that way.

  • I think Mitch Hedberg and Rickie Lee Jones listend to James.

  • thanks for this posting!

  • Love JT

  • Today Music is just a Product, designed for certain Targetgroups, sung by Artist who just hired to do the Job.

That´s why JT just need 4 Fingers and 2 Chords to touch our Hearts, cause he´s honest, he feels what he sings. And that´s what Music really is; Emotions.

  • a 1000 of these views are bound to be mine by now lol

  • and JT is all of 22 here . . . blows my mind.

  • amazing, because i just watched an interview with Ben about being the son of two famous songwriters, and the young JT's voice and mannerisms are eerily identical to his son's! ... WOW.

  • first guitar and now writing songs and playing the piano. Just kidding - he is obviously very talented. Sound like he took a few lessons from his friend, Carole King.

  • Seeing this video of James at such a young age is like watching a kindergarten performance of a man who went on to earn his doctorate in singing and songwriting!

    Amazing! Thanks for posting!

  • truly wonderful.

  • sensational

  • I agree AnhedonicTheFirst.

    todays music sucks

  • Man this guy is a genius, 2 chords and a voice made true music.

  • I wish I had this kind of music to listen to during my youth. Instead I have music greats like Jay-Z and Kanye West.

    yippee -.-

  • classic and superb perfomance.

  • Thank you for posting this classic performance!

  • thank you i always loved this song and its great to see him do it back in the day

  • He's so cute :-) I just love his songs

  • whoa James, hit the high notes!

  • I love this!

  • Brings back memories of driving I5 & I10 with weed, whites and wine back in the mid-seventies, many times...JT kept me company w/ an 8-track...YEAHHHH!

  • as a 16-year-old born in the WRONG time, i envy you!! hah

  • hell i still do that!

  • lol, what's whites?
