It always amazes me that when animal liberators do something like this people say, "Whoa, that's going too far." Perhaps they do occasionally go too far. Doesn't it occur to people that the industries exploiting animals are going too far every second of every day? If I have to pick which I'm going to be offended about, the hurt feelings of a dead person's family vs. the torture and agony of those being tested on, I think my sympathies are going to go to the latter.

Soulisscool i read that article on the monkey test, It really shows how pathetic, outdated and inaccurate animal testing is.

they tested on 500 monkeys and deemed it safe for humans then when passed drug to humans they all dropped like flies. How this article is moaning about some burnt ashes is beyond me, they should be focusing on the animals that are being killed every day for pointless experiments.

You're right, it does show how outdated, inaccurate, & dangerous it is Glendale. Those trials were dreadful & the long term effects are still unknown. It's disgustingly cruel for animals & dangerous to humans. The sooner it is banned the better. The serious side effects from prescription drugs should concern us all but I think that the problem is that people are told to believe that animal testing is helping them. I so wish they would check out the facts for themselves like you did.

I was reading about Novartis again the other day - & about more problems from prescription drugs put on the market-so whats new? You get sick of reading about all the serious side effects from animal tested drugs & the harm they cause yet they don't stop the fraudulent animal 'research', they're far too busy raking the money in.

Your dont seem to understand that when new drugs are developed, its first tested on animals to observe if its lethal, usual on primates, like monkeys. Then the drugs are then move on to human subjects, like ad I have seen in newspapers, testing new drugs, get paid a sum of cash. Only than if its safe, its marketed.

If we remove the animal aspect, how can we be sure if the drug is not dangerous? If it kills the animal, should I be trying it?

If that were true we wouldn't have all the side effects or fatalities would we? but we do-all the time, so that is not true.The animal aspect has repeatedly shown that it DOES NOT guarantee safety. Even the industry says that accuracy is between 5 - 25%. Don't you think that species specific testing will be more relevant, reliable and can be trusted more.

The TGN1412 trials alone showed that animals testing is dangerous to humans! The 6 volunteers immune systems shut down shortly after being given the medication that had 'passed as safe' on animals. Monkeys were given 500 times the dose & they did not predict the human responses.

It seems it is you that doesnt seem to understand. Many prescription drugs that have 'passed as safe' after animal tests have harmed humans! What is harmful to animals is not necessarily harmful to us and vice versa.

Im not a major in biomedical engineering, so I cant comment much about the failure of TGN1412.

looks like TGN1412 was a case of unpredicted reaction in humans, seems like they didn't do enough testing before administrating the drug to humans.

If animal testing was removed, we be using the drug to test on people automatically. That can be even more dangerous, since we have no idea what the drug can do.

Like, if I tested a drug on monkey and it died, there is no way im using it on a person.

The point is,testing on animals, in spite of massive doses given to these monkeys, failed to predict terrible, life threatening human reactions.That is just one example of regularly reported cases of animal testing failures worldwide.

There are relevant non animal methods of testing already available. Animals are biologically, physiologically and antanomically different to humans.

Strychine is deadly to us but harmless to some animals, so that would pass as safe but it isn't. It's unreliable.
