Thank you for this post, which I just discovered today. "Mathilda" was one of my favorites by Cookie & the Cupcakes. btw, does anyone out there have "Panic Button" by the String-A-Longs???
MANY MANY THANKS for uploading this memory jerker. It was the first track I tested my home-made valve POWER AMP with as an apprentice telephone engineer in 1962 .blowing my only speaker up in the process. I had wired up the volume control in reverse cos I was young and thick and my mother had shouted up to my bedroom to turn down the noise. Good Health and Good Luck to All.
The Four Shadows from Hardy, Arkansas, played this a million times during the mid 1960,s and again as the American Country Band from 1975-76. We played on the Bobby Bare and Johnny Tilliston Show in Little Rock and played this song, in 1964.
We met John Lennon, on a remote ranch in the Ozarks, near Alton, Missouri, in September 1964 and told him we played this song a lot and he had never heard it.

I remember as an apprentice, with my father, that everytime this song was played on the radio my father would stop everything and listen to it. As I had my own band at that time in the 70's I learnt it. We used have band practice in my dad's house so we would play it for him. God he was beside himself and he said to me "son no mater where I am or what I'm doing every time I hear this song it will always remind me of you. My brother and I also played wheels on the radio in a local talent quest.
retroguitarman Hi, I was taught this song 44 years ago by a 13 year mate who learned it from his Dad. I have been playing it ever since but never knew who had performed it or even heard it played by any one else. I was delighted to find it on You Tube. Great song, will record it and post it one day soon Cheers you tube
I just love this instrumental group and this in my opinion is one of the best hit they made, I found it after years of searching, I would love to know if there has been a digital remake on CD
Fantastic recording , I play their other hit of" wheels" in my band, but none of the guys heard of Matilda, so I play it at home.
The String-a-longs were a great group, and had a lot of recordings, but as with the time they got took in the money end of it, All were from Plainview Texas.
Hi, I also love this tune Mathilda. I see that you play this tune , I am trying to find the Guitar Tabs to Mathilda as this is the only way I am able to learn a song. Are you able to assist with the Tabs. Willing to pay for them. Thanks.
I love this song ever since, from the age of ten, my uncles and cousins use to paly this hit in their bands, I learnt to paly this No by watching and listening to the music and now I play rythem on my guitar and it sounds so natrual, but I would love to learn lead to this great hit . has anyone out there got a CD of it ?
In my opinion this is one of the best guitar instrumentals from the early 60's. Really surprised me that no other bands have covered it. I was beginning to think that I was the only one who remembered it.
sick as jam i think imma sing to it too

Together with Sunday, these were one of the best records ever. In Holland they were at the time very popular.
