These small towns and many on the Texas coast did not get much attention at all. Why? Because unlike the thousands in New Orleans who sat around and cried until someone came and helped them, these tough folks helped each other and themselves and did the majority of their own clean up.
If I was in need of help, I would choose 10 folks from SW Louisiana over the entire population of New Orleans.
5 Stars. Great song!! Hadnt heard that one yet. From your neighbor just across the Texas border. Thats exactly what we had left after Rita "the dog and the children" Its a damn shame that now you could write another one called "Hurricane Men!" After Gus and Ike. UGH!!! Lets hope the storms leave us alone for a while, whatever their gender. ; )
Been a long time since I been down to Cameron and Creole. I remember staying at some little shanty's near Holly Beach and there being this bar down the road. Man what a time! I was treated very well when I was there...ate like a champion! I was saddened to know that it was wiped out :-( I need to go back.
we traveled through cameron and the coast line in july of 2005. ive got the pictures and it saddens me to know that happened shortly after. im from iowa.
PLEASE post a video drive by or pictures of the Cameron area, I was there in october and november 2005 rebuilding the powerlines and I would love to see the progress that the local people have made. I have never seen such total devastation and I hope that you all are able to put your lives and towns back together. I am a lineman from Rochester Indiana and will not forget the experience that I had down there. We will keep you in our prayers, good luck and Thank you for the great video.
Stephen, I also am a Vincent from Grand Chenier. I grew up on North Island. I now live in Iowa, LA and was working on McNeese campus during Hurricane Rita. People just don't understand the devastation Hurricane Rita caused Cameron Parish. Also, Abe, good job with the vocals.
I think you're thinking of Hurricane Katrina. Holly Beach is nowhere near New Orleans, and survived Katrina just fine. The coastal town is south of Lake Charles and west of Cameron, and was devastated by Hurricane Rita a month after Katrina.
Rita hit me closer to home but I'd never say N.O. is made whole again. Rita caused a lot of damage to a lot of people including people in my family. And Rita victims didn't get as much attention as Katrina but the two hurricanes were monumentally different for many reasons. We cajuns can pick ourselves up by our hip boots and make it through on our own if we have to.
Cajuns are a resilient people, but Louisiana as a whole must recover from both disasters. no other place in America is like Louisiana. That's why I can't understand how this government can ignore Louisiana.
No other State or region in America is as unique as Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. The rest of the union is homogeneous in it's landscape and infastructure and California and New York are bordering on third world status.
If we lose Louisiana, Mississippi, and the rest of the Gulf Coast, we are destined to become like CA, NY and those other states whose economies are run by the filthy rich and worked by the illegal immigrant.
My wife is from CA and she needs to be near her mother who won't leave this place. I am more than home sick. Illegal immigration is ruining this State. We'd better get a grip on it befor it ruins the gulf coast also.
America has never been static. It has always been changing and changed by the people who come here from other countries. The current immigration "crisis" echoes several others (including the Chinese, Irish, Italian, Polish, and way back, if you ask the Native Americans, the British and French). The influx of different cultures and people vitalize America and make us unique.
I'm dreaming to get out of Cali and go to your homeland. you are so right. I felt so at peace in Louisiana when I visited and I feel like I'm not in America in Cali.
I cried! This is great! We all need to spread the word. Our neighbors need help! Visited A friend in Grand Chenier before the storm and re-visited months after, this place was totally washed out!
We need to keep telling our story to anyone who will listen. This a good song and video,i'm from Houma and i understand our urgency in stopping this.Great job fella's keep the faith....
I am a Vincent from Grand Chenier, kinda. My dad is Ron Vincent and my brother is John Vincent. I lived in Grand Chenier for a year in the early eighties but lived with my mom in Oklahoma the rest of the time. I just got back from visiting my family down there and was surprised at the amount of destruction seeing it first hand.

Thanks for the video, but until N.O. is made whole again, the little towns near it will struggle to survive.

The reason i speak of this is because I am from the Guf Coast, Baton Rouge to be exact, but I have lived in CA for the last five years.
