great inpiration to know that it is possible to get proper structured lesons in Jazz Improvisation. Kazzart has obviously gotten a solid foundation in basics and it can only be an upward trend from now.
Also quite entertaining to read comments about particular colored person playing music usually played by a subgroup of different colour
nice performance, especially on the piano and particularly coming from a lady jazz player. but what is it that attracts an Oriental person to a music genre originally created by the Africans and then developed by others in America? why as a Persian i have a thing for the Oriental culture as well as the African as well as the South American as well as ...
i guess the answer is clear: the only true international language is music, as well as the arts! (and don't forget the cuisine too of course!)
OMG i knew i heard this from somewhere Miles Daves i know! ive got the cd somewhere. Great playing kazz man how i would love to play with a group like you guys! 5/5 Your brilliant at piano i hope to get as good as you some day ^_^
THAT WAS AWESOME!!! Too bad you trumpet player was trying to step all over everyone, it's not how blasting he can make it but how softly he can blend with the rest. Cheers hon, you got it all going for ya!
Yeh I have bad posture. Comes with the vocation (I'm a web developer). Sitting long intense hours in front of the computer all day isn't exactly great for posture.
Oh my posture is awful, too... I meant you seemed very static, not that your back is curved (like any piano teacher will tell you not to do :P). But that doesn't mean you can't move with the music and add a little penache... sounds stupid I know, but it actually helps.
@kazzart jeez you're a web developer AND pianist. hope you don't get wrist of finger complications (or eye for that matter) at an early age. Nice piano playing
Wow, man! That is some quick and accurate ivory tickling! I'm blown away... Is there anything you're not great at? *doubts it* Plan on videoing any of your cuz's wedding? (esp the piano playing)
Lol. Thanks kobashe! :) Yeh I think Geoff had fun. He's a great fellow muso to jam with. Its quite funny watching his expressions actually throughout coz u can pick out when the arrangement blunders are from his expression lol.
Very cool, Kazz, thanks once again for sharing a bit of your life with us. You were GREAT! A very nice rendition of a pop standard, one which has had some pretty heavy names record it. I thought I saw a couple of instances where you were trying to get your drummer to shape up, as you'd said, lol. Gotta keep a tight hold on your musicians!
Your playing is getting better and better; I hope you stay with music (and dance) for as long as you love them. :)
Aww thanks emmbee. :) I am definitely staying with music - actually I'm going to be taking things a step up. Next academic year starting Oct, I'll be starting the Certificate in Music studies at my college - which is a 2 yr part time modular course, equiv of 1st yr degree in music.
Will this be at the same university as shown in the clip? You spoke very highly of its musical curriculum. Are you going to stay with jazz or branch out into other genres as well?
Yeh it's the same - Goldsmith University of London. They have the best creative music department in the UK.
In the certificate you can choose from 2 branches - Jazz/Pop or Classical. I'll be doing the jazz/pop branch. So yeh, furthering my jazz playing, but also learning other styles inc latin (salsa/cuban/merengue/brazilian - which I'm already doing now in the Latin Piano module.. which is heaps fun!!), rock and blues.
Ah, nice indeed, soon you'll be able to incorporate genres, like jazz/latin or jazz/rock, and the world will be your musical oyster. :) Are there any jazz pianists that you particularly look to for inspiration or simply admire their work? Ramsey Lewis has long been a favorite of mine, "The In Crowd" is such a cool tune.
Played this great song for my university audition. Great tune. So many different interpretations on this song. Nice take on it.
Nice piano solo! Funny how you got a really extended solo, it worked out great though. If drums were with it, it would've taken it to a whole new level. Really dug the ending.
Hey I don't think i ever asked you, what did/are you studying in university? And thanks..
Yeh the purpose of this performance was for each person to choose, arrange and perform & improvise over a song from this term's repertoire. Since this was a jazz improv class, the focus is on each persons solo and we will be assessed on it.
Yeh I been playing piano since I was about 6 or 7.. hm.. gosh thats 21/22 years now. Wow! I started with classical grades but only got into learning jazz on and off over the last errm.. 8 or 9 years. Man has it been that long already.
BRAVO BRAVO Great performance Kazz, I didn't know you had so much creative energy. You play the keys really well and I enjoyed that performance. again, another great video which is all your own content. Producing, editing, performing, hosting....why not consider a job with the BBC?
Haha.. thanks. But I'm pretty happy with web development work so far.. nice stable job and pays pretty well. :) Besides I just scored a new job offer with one of London's top digital creative agencies. So my career is going pretty well atm.
Bravo Kazzart! Thanks for another great vlog! Also thanks for showing us more of London Town. Read up on New Cross and found that Brian Burton AKA "Danger Mouse" of Gnarls Barkley used to live in the area. Actor Gary Oldman was also born/raised there. Goldsmiths Univ. of London is said to have one of the top ranking creative music departments in the UK. Loved the background music by the Doves. I didn't think Andrew flubbed it up that much. Looking forward to your next video installment.
Thank you! Wow.. hey I didn't know those ppl lived there! :) But yeh Goldsmiths is the best college for music in London. I can definitely attest to that - the teachers are great there! Anyway, thanks for the feedback and glad you enjoyed it. :)
Hey thanks! Hehe well.. if you watch my Two Years In London vlogs, you'll find its not always so nice here. Hehe. But anyway, thanks for the feedback on the performance. :)
Well... depends how you measure it. For quality of life, Sydney kicks London's butt! By quality of life I mean quality of living measured by work hours, stress in life, cost of living, and just general state of well-being and health. Its much easier to live a healthier, happier, relaxed life in Sydney. Weather is nicer too.
I suppose so. Though I never found it boring - there is a lot to enjoy in sydney & you don't fully appreciate the beauty there until you live elsewhere. London has its benefits and it is a pretty full on city. But, it sucks if you can't afford to do all the activities London has to offer. Sure it's a fantastic place for the super wealthy. But in reality, the rest of us struggle to keep up, and many go into debt. There were a record number of personal bankruptcy's in London last year.
A lot of people seem to have a romanticised view of london having only visited on holidays etc, but in reality life here can be pretty tough.
And a lot of locals here are also ignorant of how much quality of life in London actually can suck unless they've experienced living elsewhere. However in the short term, the benefits can make it worthwhile.. eg being able to travel europe so easily. I'd never raise a family here though.
Oh cool~ thanks for your insight, it is great. It is always nice to hear opinion from different perspective. I definitely will take that under advisement should I ever try to run away from home. XD XD
kazzart , i'm a beginner in piano, self taught, can't read notes and jazz is my fav topic... so what advice can u give me ??? need help... (-_-!)

Great fingerwork, but give it some more flair, love! There are times when your posture resembles an elderly lady crouched behind a steering wheel...
Lovely pianoness, though. Not a huge fan of the perc.
