I wonder if the design of the Host in 'Voyage of the Damned' was an homage to the robots of this episode. I didn't see it at the time, but the similarity in face seems to suggest so.
Well dreams I enjoyed, I had one dream when this Voc was walking after me in some fancy show room furniture gallery . I was only a kid, so could hide under beds, tables, and stuff. Like hide and seek and I ditched him.
This era of WHO, Seasons 12,13 & 14, is absolutely SUPERB. A roll-call of consistent high quality, timeless masterpieces or near-masterpieces: Ark in Space, Genesis of the Daleks, Terror of the Zygons, Planet of Evil, Pyramids of Mars, Android Invasion, Brain of Morbius, Seeds of Doom, Masque of Mandragora, Deadly Assassin, Robots of Death, Talons of Weng Chiang.....nothing more need be said.
the first time i saw those robots when they were programmed evil i crapped myself and when i watched it it turned into one of my favorite stories but you can't beat ark in space or pyramids of mars
A wonderful Doctor Who story - outstanding and one of the few that holds its own as an example of hard science fiction. Endlessly rewatchable - haunting and exciting and chilling in the extreme.
@randomdave30 Completely agree. This was one of the best ensemble casts of any Doctor Who serial and it has gobs of atmosphere, excellent production design and an engaging (if traditional) mystery.
Chris Boucher's unofficial sequel novel "Corpse Marker" and the "Kaldor City" radio plays by Magic Bullet delve really deep into the world of The Robots of Death and I highly recommend them for any fan of this serial. Uvanov is a hoot as an old bureaucrat.
The First character called Seven. George Constanza wanted a kid named Seven. Married with Children had a kid named Seven. And there was Seven of Nine from ST Voyager. HA!
I remember when I was 5 watching this story when broadcast. I don't think I blinked once during each of the four episodes. 'The Robots Of Death' is a masterpiece of writing, direction and design - the acting is top notch throughout also. Of course this story would not have been as succesful without the wonderful incidental music of Dudley Simpson!
From 0:55 it looks to me as if SV7 is trying to fight its 'brain' being programmed to kill - I still find that image chilling.
I have all 44 years of episodes for sale on harddrive.(yes some are reproductions) 763 episodes 215 gigs. Interested, contact me. Fair price, much better than trying to watch old VHS tapes.
Wow that clip almost hypnotised me. Maybe I'm a robot and don't know it. :)

Yeah, works of classic art in Robot form.
While other Robots (like Kryten from Red Dwarf) are pieces of MODERN art in Robot form.
