love this one.pure music and very rich. wat happened to music nowdays? I guess its eaten up by technology.people now make music from computer.Urghh!!!
This song performed LIVE at Zimbabwe Independence Day in 1980 at Rufaro Stadium by Les Wanyika or Mangelepa on Bob Marleys PA system and went on to be a very big hit for the next 4-5 years in Zimbabwe. Great Song!!!!!
I LOVE THIS SONG and SINA MAKOSA , which are my mom's favorite songs. We used to play this song (vinyl from my mom's portable radio) for a few christmases in the mid to late 80s in the country. Lots of happy memories. I LOVE YOU MARGARET, I miss Zimbabwe and Garanyemba, Gwanda, all my cousins now here in Canada, Dubai and SA. Remember those times guys?
SUCH WONDERFULL MEMORIES IT BRINGS YET SOUNDS AS THOUGH FRESH FROM THE RECORDING STUDIOS.THANX JAAW MAN GOD BLESS. REMINDS OF LATE BROTHER. MAN ABOUT TOWN SIAKALI MUYANDI
I cannot stop listening to this song so much that my wides getting annoyed with it now. Takes me back to Zimbabwe when I was just a boy dancing to this song whilst covered with dust. I also kissed my first girl to this song who was a Congolese exchange student at my school. Permanently burntninto my memory, and my heart.
@starofesther This is a poor man telling his girlfriend to love him the way he is. He says he can't do underhand deals to impress her; and advises her to ship out if she can't cope with him.
This is one of my all time favorites from anywhere. It reminds me of my two years in Dar Es Salaam (1975-1977). I play this song over and over and over. Just this past summer when I was stuck in the airport in London for 4 days I shared this song with a fellow traveler. He was from Kenya and told me that it brought back memories for him also and that was also one of his favorites.
Please credit the original of this song to the band FESTIVAL DU ZAIRE! Was composed by Nguashi Mwana Ntimbo and co-sang with Zele wa Kabamba in the then Nairobi based Festival du Zaire! This version of Mazembe is a cover; a good one at that, and incidentally even more famous than the original!
Definetely East African classic. No questions. These guys were based in Nairobi back in those days and would rock all of E Africa with their hits. Remember Les Mangelepa? Nairobi those days was the place to be. Sorry its gone down so badly these days. Like those cowboy towns from the Westerns. Lawless gunmen roaming the streets. Shooting everything in their path. You wouldn't catch me dead in Nairobi. My 2 cents.
Jakwakaro. You are so right. I have been desperately looking for the Festival du Zaire version of this song...tt was indeed the best, but i have totally failed. I had it on a tape which I lost. Anybody with this version. If U do, just listen to the instruments towards the end of the song and you will be amazed by the difference and superior quality
This was originaly peformed by Nguashi Ntimbo as I remember,
but Super Mazembe brought out the best in it to make it a classic,. their music is considered as one of the golden era of Kenyan Lingala music, Nice rhythm to the music.
It makes me cry to see so many hearts touched so deeply by this music ! ! ! I must know the year this was released. 1981? My channel is the music of the world - we are all brothers. 500 playlists, 111 of them are the music of each year since 1900. I put this on 1981 now unless someone tells me different.
I am in Arizona & learned of this song from my newest subscriber in Switzerland ! ! ! I invite you to visit my channel & share African music when you know the release year so I can include it!
This is a very nice song, Growing up Memories i remember around 1980's, my dad used to play this music, but can someone translate what this song mean?
@Pipsniq The singer is singing to his wife, who apparently doesn't love him, but just wants him for his money and buying nice clothing and things. In the chorus he sings about how he cannot kill for love because it's a sin against God, so she should just go and leave him alone forever. That's the gist of it.
tabitaeguangs i am sorry to say i dont agree with u most africans i know are very proud of their heritage as africans i am from the southern region of africa never the less do i think iam more proud than my fellow brothers and sister from all other african region
I'm from west Africa but I have this remark to make about east Africans:they know how to hold on to being African and this is what gives Africa the threshold of a long history.i'm really proud to be an african.
This song is heavenly and has unmeasurable values.
I'm from west Africa but I have this remark to make about East Africans :they know how to hold on to being African and this is what makes Africa have a threshold of a long standing history.

I am very happy to find this song after so long searching.I have being living nearly arusha about 20 years ago and every Saterday we went to town (Arusha) for outing with the bus and they were playing this song every time.
This brings memories of easter, and christmas. Kila mtu nyumbani, fathers drinking, and laughing, mothers cooking, and laughing, children running, and laughing. Memories are made of such simple things.
@rubenhuben1 This song was voted song of the 19th century on BBC World service Africa. I was surprised then after meeting a couple of Nigerians in the west now I understand why, they also associate it with M'bilia Bel.
Makwange, to say it's an East African classic probably doesn't do it justice. i'd say this is an African classic! I'm enjoying it all the way from Botswana! God bless you all.
Does the name NGUASHI NTIMBO ring a bell? Yes, he was the composer and singer of this classic hit. He was very surprised by the way this song took East Africa by storm beyond his own imagination!
....and I dropped the voice down to do the "Shauri yako, shauri yako we". Forget sounding...This feels so so so so good...Memories of Nairobi son setting with Mzee and his chronies nyonyaring johana mtembezi with random roasted wanyamas
Reminds me of 1986 at Aunty Aggies place - dancing on the lush green grass, Daddy enjoying his evening with his sisters amd we the kids just running around having the time of our lives! What i would give to get back to that time. When Zimbabwe was still a haven...
Ngong Hills Hotel Nairobi, relaxing on Sunday afternoon by the swimming pool in 1996 listening to Shauri Yako while waiting for the house band Malembe Stars to start their show!

love this song so much my uncle used to play it a lot when iwas a little girl in ZIM ZENGEZA 3 CAN ANYONE CARE TO EXPLAIN WHAT THIS SONG MEAN. i would love to know
this the best song, i am proud coz i can play the lead guitar for this song, wow!!!!!!!!!!, i am in Botswana, its touchin ma heart this song and i dont like playin it
Im from Zim, truly speaking this is the best song on planet earth, it is the original african music full of excellent handiwork (guitar)with clear rythm not the computerised ones. I wish if pple out there could listen to this song. My father introduced me to this one and i never got my mind off this beat. Im realy drowned in it. Anyone who can translate it for me pliz???. Thank u for adding this unsurpassed true and original music. Love u guyz.
This is absolutely my No. 1 Desert Island song. I can make a good argument that this sound is the soundtrack to the afterlife. It encapsulates everything good about the Humans. Is this over the top? Not even close...
I am 21 years old and I am proud to say i would listen to this anyday over the western crap being played on our waves today....... i really envy u lucky bunch that rhumbad to ths back in the day...
amuga kabisae gladys erude na david arap maiyo,na omar salim manga miaka ya kimbia kweli miaka yetu miziki ilikuwa muziki let alone this crap wanita katapuka sijui hii sijui lile
Thanks to all the Kind hearts that are sharing these rich memories. Our youth should listen to this and be inspired to STOP making noise and copying western crap!!! Compose real MUSIC!
jameni them days when we were still young and innocent, and kbc was still kbc and radios were still being covered by vitambas ili they dont get dirty whilst they were some brown colour already, lol. jamani za kale!!!!!!!!1
Mnaendelea kuiskiliza KBC ikiwa sasa ni saa nne kasorobo... Super Mazembe wakikuletea Shauri Yako. Salamu zikiendela, Moses Nyongesa.... anatuma salamu kwa Zacharia Demfo na Anita Machinga wakiwa Dodoma...
This was released in Europe on a 12" on Earthworks Records in 1983. It's the first reference of this massive UK label (ET001)... but you guys got to check the B-side, it's called Pepepe and it's even better !!! Two pure floor fillers on one record. Check it out.
thank you thank you thank you thank you. triple thanx. Repping zimbabwe harare mufombi, this ya tune used to play 24/7 next door, where there used to run a shebeen,
Man , i seen real men leave their whole wallet because of this tune, like the song says, SHAURI YAKO!! Brrrp brrrp brrrp!!!!
My God...wacha, this song rocks. I recall in Mskiti Nuru, Changamwe, Mombasa when I would hear the guitars calling me to dance my then 4 year old body...I didnt know what they were talking about...but I have found out and now I even love it more!!!!!----Africa stand up!!!! For real!!!!

This was released in Europe on a 12" on Earthworks Records in 1983. It's the first reference of this massive UK label (ET001)... but you guys got to check the B-side, it's called Pepepe and it's even better !!! Two pure floor fillers on one record. Check it out.
