Wow! such harsh words for a fine tenor! His spoken english was too heavily accented for Hollywood. That is why his dialog was over-dubbed by another actor in the movie. The 50's were strange times for Hollywood, in its own right, and the star system ofen went awry. SO? Pavorotti's movie was a flop, but he survived. Hope there is more of Orest here.
Yes! He was with the Carla Rosa Opera, he was extremely good, and later went to Sadlers Wells.
It is a shame, in my opinion, that the lure of hollywood or whatever took him away from the world of opera.
My sister and I adored him, and went to every performance. We lived in London back then, and had an uncle who was able to get us tickets, cancellations and so on, 'on the night'. We met Oreste a couple of times.
Then they tried to turn him into another Mario Lanza. Regretable.
To be introduced by Bing Crosby you have to have great talent Bing was no fool, I like Mario a lot and was a great fan then Oreste Chircop a Maltese singer I started to listen to his singing wow great voice, RIP Oreste Chircop (kirkop), Mario Lanza & and now luciano Pavarotti Thanks much
This is the first clip of Vesti la Giubba ive seen, so im sorta biased toward it. I like it, it has a more flowing tempo than the others. What orchestra is playing in the background?
I thought everybody had heard of him! He was in the movies in the fifties. He was to be the new Lanza. He has a nice lyric sound but this isn't his piece.
Bravo Oreste!!! If he were still alive, today (26th July) would have been his 88th birthday...
Oreste was an amazing tenor but also a great man. I wa lucky to have known him as he was a neighbour and a friend...

Thank you for posting Mr. peterboldizar.
It seems to me Mr. Kirkop was not 100% ripe for showbiz, but put in his share of effort.

The laughing is ironic . He was the house tenor at Covent Garden in the mid fifties .

Isn't it sopposed to be a sad song? He is almost laughing the whole time.... This song def. goes to Domingo as Nessun Dorma goes to Pavarotti

This was painful to watch. It's too hammed up, and he isn't a Mario Lanza, he's worse.

Um... let a Maltese person correct the spelling... it's Oreste Chircop, honey. In Maltese, you would be called a 'bassa'... lool
