They have plenty fans, i went to get see the Cure in San Jose a while back and trust me noone dressed goth at all haha. They have tons of fans that aren't "goth". Have you seen them play in Japan... Anyways, the point is The Cure, Souxsie and the Banshees, etc. go way beyond a "goth" perspective, they have so many vast categories of music one label can't fit for them.

Siouxsie and The Banshees were always mentioned as a post punk band of their time. Goth Rock is a moderately new term that used to describe dark eccentric music with lyrics more subjective. I guess you could say some of their albums/songs possessed this title, but Siouxsie and the banshees shouldn't even be labeled. If they should have a label it should just be "Epicness" ;)

It uses the same chord progression as a ton of songs including MGMT - Kids. Look up "most stolen chord progression" to find a great video showing all the bands using this. Basically each band has to do their one song that uses this chord progression,. It's the equivalent of the 12-bar blues but for pop and rock.
