@Haxgasm true, generally due to the fact that red and blue(green japanese) editions came out before the anime brock and trainer red(which is ash later) are 10 times cooler and more serious in the game than in the anime.

I got Red the day it came out. Great game, but really dated. No difference between SPAttack and Attack, no natures, no EV's. Gold/Silver was awesome, but still had some of the big flaws from Gen1. Ruby and Sapphires story was complete crap, the rival was a non-factor, and you lost all the Pokemon you had from Gens 1 and 2 because it wasn't backwards compatible. It wasn't until FRed and LGreen that you got access to most of the old pokes, and those games are the only reason people like Gen3. Cont

Basically, People don't appreciate D/P, it gave us Wifi which made competitive play viable, a large number of staple competitive pokes, and a lot of content for endgame(something Gens 1 and 2 did not provide).

Also, I never said 5th gen was the best, or even my second favorite. Its endgame is terrible, but I'd still put it ahead of Gen3.

Gen3 killed my interest in the franchise, Gen4 revived it.

@WhatKindOfNameNow Well, I disliked Gen 3 because the games themselves were fairly boring. I know that's an odd thing to say, but in Ruby/Sapphire there just wasn't anything to motivate you to complete it. Unlike the other generations which all had something - be it the rival, the villains, the story, or the pokemon themselves - Generation 3 just felt kind of flat. I have met a lot of people with an inflated sense of nostalgia, though. None of them can understand why I don't hate Gens 4 and 5.

Gen III did kind of try something new with the rival aspect, and I'll admit, it's not my favorite in that regard, even though I loved Emerald (I never really played R/S since I unintentionally ended up waiting until Emerald was out) because of the fact that both villainous teams were implemented. It changed things up a bit, and I enjoyed it a lot.
