@natty0804892381 Ha, you tried to insult Train's cover by calling it "gay" when in fact the original was written by a gay man. I have no idea how you came up with the idea of calling Pat Monahan a "Cher wannabe"--that's certainly...interesting.
I got this song i wrote in tribute of the feeling i get from listening to many different Rock Musicians. Its called I Salute You, and i think you'll dig it cause its real catchy and throughly Rockin'....plus the video is kind of cool cause i made it look like various famous Rockers are playing my song! Rock On!!
bob mould...husker du...sugar... whatever the man does is gold and I did have the pleasure of meeting bob in manchester boardwalk with sugar and he was a real gentleman :)
I can't realize, for now, Bob without Grant and Greg... but I'm trying to listen also to this band, which is considered one of the best thing in the 90's.. however, Nothing can reach Husker Du, for me
Sugar should have been a bigger splash but the industry was turn to anything grunge; which Sugar wasn't. Bob Mould and his band made some powerful songs. They are never ballads. It is songwriting at its best!
Again, thank you for posting this! First time I ever saw the video to this awesome song! I love Sugar! Bob Mould is such an amazing musician and writer =). And yes, "Copper Blue" is one of the best albums there is as well! Keep rocking, Bob!!! =)
Such an incredible song from a band that never got its due recognition - "Copper Blue" is one of the greatest albums ever - not a single bad track from start to finish - all absolutely incredible..
This video is telling all the gay kids and teenagers out there that it is OK to be who you are and not to be afraid. It may be tough, but you are who you are. If other people can't accept it, then too bad.
@xplund It is well known Bob Mould is gay. At 2:20 he shows the football player, at 2:37 the military man. Then at 2:44 he is flashing pictures with messages on it. Read the messages. They can only mean one thing. One has the football player and military man on it and says "what you see is not what you get." The card at the end of the video says "THIS IS NOT YOUR PARENTS WORLD." Obviously it is a message to all the young gay kids out there who are trying to cope with it.
@shelleyinthecity I know Bob Mould is a gay activist, I was just kidding you. It's also true that his career tanked after coming out of the closet right smack in the middle of the FUEL tour. I wonder if it was worth it?
total quality from probably the biggest under rated band of their era. especially when you concider the shite that was getting rave reviews. living legends without legend status unfortunately.
@DHLHC - How so? I have never noticed any similarity between this song by Sugar and The Cure. And Robert Smith has a higher voice than Bob Mould, and a British accent as well. One of the things I really liked about Sugar is that they didn't sound like anyone else at the time.
I think s/he was hearing the same notes in Boys Don't Cry, maybe. there are only 12 notes in music. but yeah, Sugar had a very different Sound from the Cure. and voice, British accent or no, Mould's upstate New York "nasal curse" is rather unmistakable, recognizable and not found in other bands so prominently that I can think of anyway....
Copper Blue shaped my taste in 11th grade, from there I was able to bounce back from pop punk to power pop and everything inbetween. Thank you Bob, you are a hell of a musician with all the right pop tendencies.
Also, anyone slagging on the Train version should take another listen, while not the same greatness, it has a giant theatrical feel. This one is just more...pure and wholesome.
Man, I love Bob Mould. From Husker Du, to solo, to Sugar, and back to solo....One of the best musicians of....EVER. Thanks so much for posting--I used to have this video (taped from good old 120 Minutes) but lost it somewhere.

@prpwinenc aww the memories, this song can almost put me back in my old pickup in the high school parking lot. I think copper blue might be the best album from first to last song.
Bob Mould ranks right up there with Brian Wilson. Whether walking down an esplande or however goes the spelling - close enough - this song is exceptional. Only if I can change your mind, mind you.
