Also, you don't have an argument when you refer to intentions, e.g., the intentions of historians is entirely outside of the arguments and evidence that they present, in the same way that I cannot refute you by saying that you obviously disapprove of gays. Also, you cannot just selectively cite a few examples of law from over a period of 1,500 years, and spanning various city-states with different rules and cultures. Greece was not a centralized "Greece" until after the Roman conquest.

It makes just as much sense to say "the ancient Greeks thought...", as it does to say "ancient Europeans thought..." you have to go on a culture-by-culture basis, and even then it is only a summation of dominant attitudes. It is known for a fact, for example, that same-sex sexual activity and enduring relationships were known in, celebrated and revered in, and part of the core social and military institutions of Sparta and Thebes.
