  • Best times of all. The government are mickey and minnie mouse today. at least back then you knew what was what and had respect above all great music! that will be legend till time disolves.

  • for a 20 year old. hank marvin plays a mean guitar. THIS is why i wanted to play a stratocaster.

  • What I do not like in this music, is that, it is really SHORT :S

  • @csoss i totally agree its way to short xx

  • I remember buying this disc in the 60s the best decade for music ever!!!

  • Grew up on this stuff, and the Beatles...- wow. I feel for the youth of today because they have to deal with the contrived music. Parents - make your youngens listen to the Shadows and Beatles - good stuff indeed.

  • @j2thashaw Yeah I'm 19 and my dad got me at a young age to listen to the shadows, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Who, Pink Floyd (Favorite band :]), Cream and many more artists from the 60's and 70's. I look at music today and laugh because it is never going to be as good as stuff from back in the day. I thank my dad all the time for showing me the light

  • @iLLUSiiONS111 Hell yeah, I just turned 19 yesterday! The same thing happened to me except that it was my uncle who caught me at a your age and showed me all these different bands, mostly metal bands but he showed me a lot of others like blues and jazz bands. I am just now checking out this band The Shadows after reading Tony Iommi's book, he said that he was mainly influenced by this band and I thought that they would probably be good if Iommi liked them, and they are, they're great!

  • i looovee it

  • Tarantino anyone?

  • @BluesYourAss Yeah... One sugar please

  • @luxyaltz219 The tune would be just perfect for the new Tarantino movie! Beautiful.....................

  • @BluesYourAss Yep ..perfect ....it was made for it

  • THE SHADOWMEN MAN OF MYSTERY

Australian band still playing this great music today. Worth watching.

  • Sorry, I madea mistake! ... I incorrectly posted another video (LOST)! Sorry!!!

  • Sixties music is the greatest. I'm nuts about that early 60s twangy guitar sound.

  • מעולה אין מילים!!! ♥♥♥

  • Back in the 60s most of the music also was shit. The thing is, only the good music prevails. In 2050 nobody will remember about Bieber.

  • @kvrisu I HOPE!

  • good>>>>>>>

  • I was born in the wrong era (90's)

It just amazes me that 80 percent of today's music is complete shit.

  • @9MinamiKe6 I dont know why it would surprise you that a funk time yeilds poopy music. It is perfectly logical.

    Tom in Utica

  • Todas las canciones de Shadows me encantan. Esta es una de ella. Bella canciòn.

  • lol, Buddy Fantastic. I love The Shadows, I grew up with this stuff, my dad's mad on them!

  • Without a shadow of doubt these guys are awesome

  • @45Machine if you pardon the pun.

  • Are there bands like this out now!?!

  • @KingPurcival, yes, have a visit at this channel, to see some stuff and recommended channels also, surfbirdtrash, it s mine, i m a fanatic of shadows ventures and the rest of the oldschool surf instro, but yes, there are new groups with the same skills.

  • @KingPurcival

    Muse

  • Tisztelt romjulian! Köszönöm a részemre elküldött számokat!

  • This song was used for the TV series 'Edgar Wallace' (crime murder) back in the 60's.

  • A boldog fiatalságom emléke....

  • @fridolin0216 nálam detto :)))

  • I bet that this sounded pretty 'heavy' for its time...just brilliant!

  • Man of Mystery, 36-24-36, Peace Piipe all great shadows tunes. Met Jet in 1977, what a great man! Pity he was forced to leave The Shadows, and was in my mind, very badly tret by them. As for the 60s, there was some great music, but remember there was a lot of rubbish too.

  • @MrAcklington Did Jet jump or was he pushed? I read somewhere about Cliff Richard ,of all people, having a fling with Jet's missus at the time. So the atmosphere in the Shadows must have been very uncomfortable for him. Once he left the Shadows after Wonderful Land, I always felt they lost their edge and became more mainstream.

  • Im 12. I wish I lived in the 60's. I hate today's music. Someone build me a Time-Machine? I'd like to live when it was awesome.

  • @ToxicDoovelacky hey man im 20. and there is tons of great music nowadays you just wont find it on the radio. Listen to a band called the growlers. they are the shit.

  • @ToxicDoovelacky Don't knock 'Today's Music', you just have to go search out the things you like, buried as it is under piles of crap.

I'm well chuffed that a 12 year old can have some 'ears' for music, keep searching and listening, you have more to listen to than anybody in the sixties would. Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon for starters.

  • @ToxicDoovelacky It's not that bad now after all. I'm sixteen and I used to think the same athing a few years ago but honestly, there still great people around who like this kind of music, you'll find them don't worry. =)

  • @ToxicDoovelacky Not just music. Cars, movies, books, culture overall.

Today it's as if our civilisation is in a deep existential crisis.

  • que dire ce sont les meileurs

  • I first heard this song from Muse. (Muse being my favorite band).

I'd have to say this is better. I like the old fashioned 60s spring reverb and the solo is sweet.

Sorry Muse. Yours is awesome, but this is amazing.

  • I grew up listening to this kind of music , I am over 70 yrs old and the youngsters here in Ukraine are now liking this 60s music. OH how i miss those days

  • A hip-hop group I listen to put me on this band and then when I look them up I never ealized I've listened to them before !!! This is an awesome band!!!!! Love every song I listen to. I hope they got paid for all the times their songs are played in movies

  • Very Fantastic!!!!!!!!!

  • This reminds me of Scooby-Doo, for some reason I don't know why. -_-"

  • @sharker93 lol Honestly, I search YouTube not just for great music and images, but for great comments like these!

  • I grew up listening to this kind of music , I am 49 yrs old . I still do listen to the 60,s music and films as well . I love it , better than what we have today ,

  • Dansen in Den Hout in 1968, I love it.

  • Любима мелодия !!! Незабравимиииии!!!

  • Its nice to hear music and not singing.

  • Fuck yeah

  • Cooooool!

  • I remember this song and I can't even remember from where... I know it brings memories! A great song indeed. I don't understand why people even click "dislike" on videos like this.

  • @Nadcu92 This used to be the theme of the Edgar Wallace tv series.

  • Take the COVERS off, join the JETT set!!!!!!!!!!

  • what a different era the 60s was to this shit time were liviing in now

  • @ste123456754 yep, simply said.

  • Agreed. In this world of shit we exist. glad they taped these good times. FUCK THIS MUSIC GENERATION GO SELL YOUR FRUITYLOOP BEATS SOMEWHERE ELSE.

  • @ste123456754 die then:)why live in shit?only worms live there

  • @ste123456754 Yes but its todays sound system that makes this music sound so awesome and appreciated we cant have it all at the one time you know :)

  • @ste123456754 ANYTHING was better that the shit time we're living in now !!

  • Elhunyt Jet Harris!

    Isten veled,Jet!

  • Ahh Edgar Wallace mysteries..

  • Thanks! My wonderful youth ...

  • milles mercis

  • hank marvin is the best guitar player there has ever been ,

  • full of mistery :D

  • I had this EP (and everything by the Shads) back in the early 60's. I just about wore them out. Mum took me to see the Shads in Leeds in 62? Fifty years later I can mentally play every Shads tune note-for-note. Hank, Bruce & the guys - if by any chance you should see this, thanks for your musicianship and everything else!

  • wicked!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wonderfull guitars..That is the Shadows..Cem-TURKEY

  • I've searching 2 years for this song and finally yeah!

@ToxicDoovelacky I've played this on keyboard, not so hard as on guitar

  • to chyba Simon TEMPLER

  • This song was originally the theme music to the Edgar Wallace Mysteries. The Shads covered it. I love their version, but it';s not the 'original', just the one everyone remembers.

  • @orionova89 this is great but i prefer the tv version which is slower and more mysterious sounding.

  • I tried leaning this song on guitar. ITS F***ING HARD!

  • @ToxicDoovelacky I hope you're being sarcastic

  • @ruivo26 lol, ive only been playing about 3 years, i had alot of other songs my teacher wanted me to learn, i just never got around to playing this very much. now, ive finally gotten it, its amazingly fun.

  • I had doubts as to whether Muse's cover was actually Muse (since there was no way to tell) but now I know. MUSE FOREVER!!!

  • After a long time I am hearing this number of Shadows! It is like suspense thriller movie music!

  • Comment removed

  • MUSE FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!! But this version is cool too!

  • First time I can genuinely say that both versions are just as good!

  • Hank Marvin is a God!! Learned so much about guitar from him!!

  • @jkoff76

    Hank is a Hunk!! LOL

I want to eat him up girl!

  • muset ja muset hevonvittu..ei hajukaan jos kuunnellaan musiikki niin se herättää ihmisessä jotain loppu on paskanjauhantaa

  • @aapojj Näin on!

  • muset ja muset hevonvittu..ei hajukaan jos kuunnellaan musiikki niin se herättää ihmisessä jotain loppu on paskanjauhantaa

  • Phoning the speaking guitar...

  • find it hard to accept that muse did a good cover to this -.-

  • @Lozzy7071 nd yet they did.

  • grigori perelman

  • This is american interpretation of russian dance "Tsyganocka"

  • Brillant

  • HANK can sure spank a fender . . such quality such sound the whole band were just the greatest . and what about MARVINS dreamy licks on the CLIFF early stuff. just listen to NINE TIMES OUT OF TEN its awesome .

BEATLES WERE POETS TO MUSIC . THE SHADOWS DID THERE TALKING ON GUITARS . wow STILL SENDS SHIVERS DOWN MY SPINE . the sound is ageless

  • @bobybird24 a little harsh eh?

  • El sonido de The Shadows me subyuga, me transporta a otra dimensión. ¡Oh, bendita juventud ya jamás volverás!

  • Ohhhhh yes ! now that's cool.

  • More twanging from Hank. And it's all over in 2 mins ;-) Timeless.

  • Great, great Music. Grazie, F@usto

  • Hey there. Just want to inform you that my father in law just tried your brainshaker on me, right after he saw this vid (yea, he's a fat basterd too). The only effect he's got is making me very angry, so he's got a genuine anger punch in his face. Yea, I got my ass kicked after that, of course, but that didn't help him looking prettier with his bleeding nose YEAAA...

So don't try this at home, pops :)

  • Mellow!

  • I like instrumentals

  • @ SpiritLevelBubble- I, too, was at school in the 80's, and some of my classmates thought it strange that I liked music from the 60's when everyone else loved Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, etc. These are good bands, too, but my favourite was always the good old 60's. Timeless music that still sounds good today.

  • What a great Lead guitar sound. There must be a tape echo there.

  • During 5th grade or so, back in the 80s, we used to bring tapes with our favorite music to school that we'd then vote for in class Top of the Pops kind of thing. Everyone brought Duran Duran, a-ha, Bon Jovi, etc. except me. I once brought a copy of this tune. Needless to say, it didn't get many votes ... But it was the best tune!

  • Fratelli ftw. (Inside Quote)

  • Takes you back a bit

  • Simply.. Thebest band ever.

  • IO ERO UN BIMBO, MA LORO SONO STUPEFACENTI

  • THE SHADOWS reached the top . and stayed there . . why . because they were simply better than anyone else in there field . my father used to say son HANK MARVIN can make a guitar talk . well hes been speaking to us for 50+yesrs . we will never see there like again .

  • in a way i guess they were a bit "muse-y" or am is it too risky to call them that?

  • @philly624 man... Maybe muse is a bit "shadow-esque". They existed like 10 years before matt even was born (just a guess) .. you CANNOT say something like that! god

  • @Molkomuse yeah sorry thats my bro who wrote it...hes on muse's nuts like no other so anything is compared to them NEVER the other way around. haha its cool that muse can take on so many different styles like the shadows...thats awesome. also muse is the best band EVER!!! just thought i should add that lol

  • Well, most of the music is a well-known(in Russia) russian traditional dance originating in 18xx.

  • "If people ony knew what kind of equipment they had to work with in those days."

  • ....one of mother's favourites

  • @Mcatinthebag made me loll :L:L:L

  • @Mcatinthebag cause she is fantasizing of her man of mystery.

  • no he didn't, he just used incredibly fast fingers. Dubbing wasn't really up in fool force until the 1970s, and this song was written in 1960.

Hank was the world guitar champion back then.

  • Until the 1970's?? Are you kidding? Better go do some homework.

  • Dubbing was happening in the major studios in the mid 60's, it was available for HOME studios in the 1970's!!

  • lol its got that whole james bond feeling to it idk why XD

  • i can slamost play this on guitar. i mean really close... ok only half but still, im learning!

  • Getting the notes is one thing, getting the tone is another!!!

A simple song, so hard to master.

Hank showed some real flair on this song, esp in the bit in the solo where it sounds like twin guitar. ( He didn't overdub did he???)

  • This song is just fantastic. My dad loved the Shadows. This is a perfect example as to why he loved them so much.

  • Great tune...always reminds me somehow of Dr Who and the Daleks around 1965.

  • Did someone mention The Doctah??

  • The Shadowmen Man Of Mystery

    I meant to say

  • Look up The Shadowmwn Man Of Mystery Good version

  • nice )

  • love it

  • If you like this kind of music, then i recommand you on Return of Gemini . With Karel Svoboda and Mefisto.

  • @martinpilc Thanks, I now have a new great band to listen to :)

  • IMO every young guitarist should listen to this stuff..its not a matter of liking but its just history and its great!!!!!.(listen to Mark Knopler!!)

    Tks 4 the upload.

    Vanu.

  • @vanu49 bands like MUSE are re-introducing to the next generation a lot of overlooked songs like this one, by doing unexpected covers esp. during live performances :)

  • Hi simonjeste...Yes youre right...and Muse doing so..theyre coming to my attention and its great...music has no boundries...

    Have a nice day!!

    Vanu

  • almost the same chords than "hotel california"!!? LOL

  • have you heard muse's cover of this song yet?

  • @koalashooter1 Yes, but this original is much better. The sound is great, you can't get that kind of sound with new instruments. I'm a bit over my 30s but I love the music of 50's and 60's. Better times in many ways.

  • @koalashooter1 the original song is way better. And i'm a former big muse fan as you can see. Now i just like them for the nostalgia and stuff, but still, the original is better.

  • Mystery man had guessed? ;))

  • What a great tune! Truly a fine sound, perhaps a bit difficult for its simplicity. Seems so long ago...

    Thank you so much FH.

  • Hank Marvin is the PHD on the guitar. All his instrumental hits are sensationals. His playing style is unique, his blocked notes and most of all, his skill in using the vibrato arm like what you hear in this song.

So I will not listen to another performer doing a Shadow piece because the The Shadows is simply the best.

  • what is the name of the song by The Shadows as seen in part one of The Beatles Anthology?

  • That's F.B.I. if I remember correctly.

  • Rodcow, It is Man Of Mystery , though there are some similarities.

  • @BritishNoblePerson

Howdo. That was actually a reply to somebody who askd which Shadows song was in Beatles Anthology.

  • Sorry mate, The posts on this one are not really in order so I thought, you thought this was FBI.

  • @BritishNoblePerson

No probs fella.Yeh the order is screwed up on this one for some reason.

  • used to be theme from edgar dust cart.

  • Yes of course it is. Its identical in every way and I also have 2 large floppy ears on my head. Lets not forget that other Shadows classic Apache, which is of course a blatent rip off of the German National Anthem and then wonderful Land which is a rip off from the Theme tune to Eastenders.

  • Hello BNP. I invite you to listen to this instrumental piano version of the song I mention. Please try to focus on the harmony in the chorus. You'll find that the chord progression is exactly the same. Chord by chord.

    watch?v=FTbUIe6p6Ug

  • I already listened before I commented.

yes the Chord Progression is the same, but how many other hundreds of examples could this apply to? I see your point, and agree the progression is the same, however to claim its a blatant rip off is a little over the top.

  • Give me five of your hundred of examples where almost TEN chords are played exactly the same way. Don't try to lower this as a common thing.

  • There's something wrong with your arithmetic. It takes the Shadows just eight chords to execute the tune. On the ninth they land back on the tonic chord of A minor, ready to start the tune all over again. So where does this "TEN" come from?

If you brought a charge of plagiarism in court, you'd be asked to name the Naranjo en Flor chords. I couldn't myself, because the half dozen versions I listened to on YouTube can't even agree on the first five. But you must know. So what are they?
