Ryan has some jerk in him but that isn't all his fault. One he has high career goals probably the most driven guy in the office and just being a temp can be disheartening. Two no one respects him even before he went to corporate. Three if you had Michael Scott wanting to sleep with you (it's so obvious) and were in a relationship with a girl like Kelly who never stops talking, that'd turn anyone into a douche. I like Ryan mainly b/c I'm young like him trying to get ahead.

I love ryan. he's so flawed. I've always seen this sort of miserable desperation in him, beneath all his douchebaggery.

of course if I met him I'd be like "what a dick" and move on, but that's what's awesome about tv, I can get to know a kind of person I'd write off in real life.

There's a difference between the writer and the character. The writer (BJ Novak) is actually a pretty good writer. I can't stand the character he plays. Give Ryan a break? Not happening. He's done nothing to deserve it.

One thing I've noticed is that Ryan is sort of looked down upon by the office personnel as "just a temp". This looking down is passed on to viewers through awkward moments and character assassination. It all pays off when the tables turn on everyone and "the temp" becomes the boss's boss. You see you are not supposed to like Ryan, instead you are supposed to be shocked by his incoherent rise to the top. Thanks for the video.
