  • Xi!

  • Yes. Good singer. I have heard some of his work and nice work it is. But When you talk about somebody like Sam Cook, we're talking about another time, when black men had a completely different struggle. I think Sam was singing from some experience. i don't think Seal had to endure some of the pain Sam did.

  • @LB9997 Try getting your ass beat by your father every single day from the age of 6-15 years old like Seal was beaten by his father and lets see if you can sing this song like you had some experience with struggle.

  • Omg he's got the best voice for this song and u can tell that he's really in to it to, which makes it better

  • this is simple beautiful and this song as such a powerful message. Amazing!

  • There is absolutely nothing wrong with this performance. Simply amazing!

  • I've been hearing this version on the radio in LA lately and Seal blows me away... It's the best cover of this song I've ever heard.

  • Nice, but just doesn;t have the heart that Sam Cooke conveyed in this song.Sam knew what was ahead, Seal benefited from it..As a young white girl listening to Sam Cooke I recognized "soul" before I ever heard the word or knew what it would later mean.Elvis had soul...too many equate it with race.Sam's sound was pure, not all the fancy "mixing" they do today.he was a trailblazer in many ways. RIP, Sam Cooke!

  • Wish music of this caliber and meaning was still written today.

  • VERY VERY NICE!!!

  • Yes. I think his composing the song helps. But he is probably writing from personal experience too and that makes a great deal of difference.

  • @LB9997 you can't expect ppl who didn't have that experience, which most of us didn't have, to sing the song with the amount of emotion Sam Cooke did. You are setting the bar too high. If he sings with emotion, which Seal always does, then Seal is doing a good enough job.

  • RAMPANT, CHEATING AND CONNIVING BUSINESSES,PRIVATE AND GOVERNMENTAL, DISREGARD OF OTHERS, TO NAME A FEW, IS CAUSING THIS GREAT COUNTRY TO FALTER. CHANGE STARTS INDIVIDUALLY AND A SPIRITUAL REFORMATION (BUT NOT FROM THE RELIGIOUS, COVETOUS CHURCH LEADERS OF OUR TIMES) IS COMING.TO GET CAUGHT UP IN THE HYPE OF THE MEDIA WITH ALL THE "NEGATIVE" NEWS THEY REPORT TO SUBLIMINALLY CONTROL THE MASSES I.E., TERRORISM, FINANCIAL PROBLEMS, RAMPANT CRIME, GROSS IMMORALITY, ETC. TAKE CHARGE-CHANGE SELF FIRST

  • PEOPLE REALIZE PLEASE A HUGE AND LIFE TRANSFORMING CHANGE IS NOT ONLY GONNA COME BUT HAS ALREADY BEEN PUT IN MOTION. THIS CHANGE CAN BE BENEFICIAL OR DETRIMENTAL THE CHOICE IS SOLELY YOURS. WHAT WAS DEEMED THE "AMERICAN DREAM" FOR MANY HAS BECAME "THE AMERICAN NIGHTMARE. THE RACE AND CHASE FOR MATERIALISM, PROSPERITY, AND SELFISH AMBITION, IS CAUSING MANY TO SELF-DESTRUCT. PEOPLE KILLING THEIR FAMILY AND THEMSELVES BECAUSE OF JOB AND MATERIALISTIC LOSS.CRIME,DRUG (LEGAL AND ILLEGAL) USE IS

  • Check out the video of Luther Vandross singing this song. He brings the house down!

  • Love this song my fav version of this song is al greens version. You guys should check it out. Not taking anything from seal or other versions of this song but al's version is so powerful

  • The INSTRUMENTAL part of this song in it's original form sounds better than this synthisized B.S. SEAL did a decent job, BUT SAM COOKE DID IT WAY BETTER. What happened to musicians and singers over time that they don't make 'em like they used to? LOL!

  • I totally agree with the comment LB9997 had left. I have the same feeling with Marc Anthony trying to sing Hector Lavoe's songs. A good example of an artist trying to duplicate the "technique" of emotion. Good example is listen to Aguanile from both singers. No way Marc did this song any justice.... Thanks for pointing out this important factor in music LB9997! Genuine Feeling can never be replicated!

  • man we love you. just as good as sam

  • une des plus belles de seal en plus j ai connus mon plus grand amour de ma vie sur cette chanson et ela resteras dans notre coeur

  • I've listened to just about all the major singers (too many to mention) sing this powerful song. They all put their heart and soul into it! They choose to sing it because they feel it! All in all, Sam Cooke shared it with the world and WE feel it's power. It gives us hope, but we should all be inspired to perpetuate CHANGE for the good!

  • All I can add is that the STRUGGLE for freedom of equality is not ONLY about race, but also gender, sexual preferences etc.Listen to the version (LIVE) by Adam Lambert. A beautiful soul who is openly gay and he sings it with soul and depth seldom heard outside of the original Cooke version.I also am not fond of this version by Seal.He didn't make me "feel" it.Please listen to Adam Lambert sing it. Thanks. Peace! :D <333

  • @queenrosered I have and Lambert doesn't make me sing it. Sorry.

  • Listening to Seal sing this song, is the equivalent to listening to Elvis Presley, Michael Bolton, and Kenny G trying to mimic Black music. NO SOUL!

  • x xxxx xxx

  • Seal, R.Kelly & Anthony Hamilton are the only people that have pull this off, apart from the great Sam Cook.

  • This is better in my opinion. Sounds amazing. So why does everybody have to hate? If you don't like it than don't listen to it..simple as that.

  • I only clicked on this vid to say I think Seal is an absolute cunt!!

  • Powerful voice.......does he feel these lyrics? i dunno......When he leaves this stage he goes home to his white wife and a big mansion.....i dont believe he feels this song from his guts.

  • fanstacic now this is real muzik!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey!!!! Who took Otis Redding off ? What's the deal? We want Otis Back!!!

  • Hey. If "grandpa" got the stuff, then that's the way it is. I just feel nobody can touch the original version with the same depth and substance. And I'm not alone in thinking that. Sorry, kiddo.

  • Sam did this song much justice...It is "his" song..Much like "Respect" is Aretha's song...Hard to ever beat the original...However, Seal deserves some applause for his attempt here...and it was a lovely attempt and version, of this most sacred song.

  • This song belongs to Sam, and only Sam. Seale has a good voice, but he came too little too late. This is Sam Cooks song, and nobody will ever do it like Sam. He messed it up for everybody else. Sorry Seale.

  • @holzkk33 I have to agree....NO ONE comes close to Sam when it comes to singing this song.....His version gives you chills from the very first line.

  • Love Seal's voice for this powerful tune -- but this production is too freakin overdone. Less is more.

  • The problem with a lot of young singers today when they sing classic R&B is, they can duplicate the 'technique' of emotion. But they lack sincerity and substance. I do not believe what he is telling me in the song. Good voice. Yes. But when I hear Sam Cooke sing this, I believe what he tells me in the lyric is true from his depth. He does not need to rely on his technique to convince me. He sings from his depth, and probably from his personal experience. there's the difference!

  • @LB9997 -- very well put . couldnt have said it better ( 5 star ) comment

  • @LB9997

    very well dam said.

  • @LB9997 ok, grandpa

  • @LB9997 You have a point they sound like souless puppets lol Check out the Pyramid at 0:05.

  • @LB9997 I agree with your comment as it applies to a lot of new singers but I am not sure it applies to Seal. You only have to watch a lot of the America's Got Talent type shows to see a lot of mimicry that only goes skin deep, and I find it pretty repulsive...kids who's toughest streak in life has been waiting for an iPhone upgrade. Seal on the other hand seems to have lived some tough life which i think is a prerequisite to really nailing R&B.

  • @LB9997 We may not have singers like sam cooke anymore but Seal is an insane improvement on the mediocrity that's around.

  • @LB9997 You are hard of listening i think

  • @LB9997 that comes from writing the song. the reason sam cooke has the depth and substance is because he wrote it. Seal did an amazing job with this

  • @LB9997 Probably because he wrote the song? obviously

  • @LB9997 well, I believe Seal sings every song from his soul, including this one. Different strokes.

  • @LB9997 Seal doesn't - but listen to R. Kelly - Seal is not really a RnB singer....more of mixed genre(pop, little RnB)...

  • @LB9997 So SOO true!!!

  • @LB9997 Excellent description of this video - you are so right - of course other comments are from folks who are younger or just do not know the feel.... You hit it just right - love the comment - he does not have SINCERITY or SUBSTANCE - because he cannot understand or has the that "feel" but good voice.

  • Mediocre. He should really stay away from these classics.

  • Cool story ski

  • Colour doesn't matter music does and this is music

  • @ alwaysanecesity, I hate to say it, but nobody can have the feeling in this song like Sam. He played it for two seperate people and the response from both was that it sounded eerie. He died within a week of it's release.

  • oh my god this is amazing,he sang it better than sam

  • @alwaysanecesity

You must be deaf. Sam Cooke is unique, and looking at this generation it's something that may stay unique.

  • Great cover.

  • Someone can upload Seal - My Girl?

  • We all have the same mother finally...Africa, racism is meaningless, almost unbelievable, in light of this and only makes your world smaller and emptier. Your brothers and sisters await you....when you're ready that is.

  • Wow! I've never seen so much emotion & racism on YT! Shows racism is alive and well in USA! This song is one of the most powerful songs ever written! It gives me hope in my situation. It all crashed down on me in 2009. One night after my wife left me, I got a foreclosure notice, my business had gone to hell, I was listening to Sam's version and came across Otis' version, Damn! It brought me to tears! It gave me hope! I was wasted and sang along "A Change Is Gonna Come"! (and it will) Peace!

  • sounds a lot like the original, I think he is doing a great job not overdoing it

  • RIP SAM COOKE

  • classic

  • cute

  • wow

  • There's no racism in this song! He's very sexy to me..<3

  • Excellent cover

  • nice

  • this guy is another sam cooke great

  • i love this song and my unique and creative videos on you tube reflect this you must watch YOU SYMBOLIZE HOPE

  • huh... ignorance to hate sean or cook!

  • my idol DMX also listens to

DMX ft Seal - I Wish

  • KNOWLEDGE IS the

    KEY FOR ETERNITY..

  • Smooth and powerful delivery as always.

  • HES LIKE A BLACK PHIL COLLINS

  • great re-make, but i think seal is half seal

  • My my such ignorance from some posters. Please listen to the words. A change is gonna come. I don't know whats beyond heaven. It's not about worldly politics. He says change is gonna come. That's when all are judged and we are changed into the likeness of christ if we have helped our brothers and sisters.

  • Listen to Terence Trent D'arby sing this. He does my favorite version...then Aretha Franklin. Check him out.

  • Cookie is of course the best, but Seal does a very good job, i like both.

  • Why are the people who are making hateful comments here the first place?

  • cool seal

  • I just love his height..

  • Damn this is nice GREAT JOB

  • fair, no one does it like Sam Cook

  • Paid book sharing said this video is hot!!! Look us up.

  • hey guys, i have an idea, why dont we shut the hell up and enjoy the goddamn music?

  • iM sO sad he died....he was only 61.......

  • This song is reputed to be about the premature death of Sam's son and him getting refused entry into a cinema due to his race!

  • @skyprincess100 the Adam Lambert version is very so-so. Not terrible by any means, but by no means the best version of this song. And the color of his skin has nothing to do with it. For that Sam, Otis and Lauryn will have to duke it out.

  • I can't imagine what Heidi Klum was thinking when She got married to this super ugly Negro. Just another White Person brainwashed into hating her own race I guess. I wonder what Her Parents think.

  • @MrBEB123

Only racist can take a situation like love and marriage and reduce it into terms like that. Brainwashing? Hate? Her family?

What makes you think that race was even an issue in her decision? What makes you think her family would do the same? I actually feel pity for you. You are consumed by such biases that it actually distorts your perception of other people.

  • @staticneuron

What makes you think white men should support hypocritical white women? She fucks the ugliest negro she could find, yet would probably sneer at a respectable white man/black woman couple.

  • @T1memaster

You and I are not even speaking the same language. I do not reduce situations or relationships into race issues and I certainly don't want to make comments about a relationship I know nothing about. I don't know her and unless you actually know her implying that she is hypocritical and using the term "probably" does more to show "your" point of view instead of serving as a base for reasonable discourse on the topic.

  • @staticneuron

You are right we aren't, go back to listening to your rap music and let me know when you can see the bigger picture.

  • @T1memaster

Sure, as all rap enthusiast see Seal's version of a Sam Cooke song as a pinnacle of rap. I 'hope' if you try harder you can come up with an intelligent dismissive comment. Because the last one comes off as a bit ignorant and childish.

  • @staticneuron

If you think the average person who is a "rap enthusiast" is intelligent you need your head examined. On average they are complete morons that plague society.

  • @T1memaster Came across your comment. Let me tell you something. All that hate inside of you will eventually destroy you. Looks are a superficial thing. Ask an 80 year old if you don't believe me. Therefore get of that high horse. Start being respectful and judge individuals by their actions and their character and not by the color of their skin. You sound like a bitter old man filled with regrets. Reform and change yourself before you die a lonely man.

  • @MrBEB123 Actually, here parents happened to be at my house while I was reading your comment. And they said they are so glad their daughter didnt get involved with someone narrow minded and a traitor to the HUMAN race like you. pfft....you must just hate human kind. Oh well.Enjoy living in your bitter swamp.

  • @Imoteph Apparently they are brainwashed by the Jew controlled news and entertainment industries. If your little story is true then they would be shockingly stupid but more Whites these brainwashed days fall into that category. I fail to see why someone who thinks Negros race mixing with Whites is a bad idea would be "narrow minded". Doctor William Luther Pierce wasn't narrow minded and He wasn't afraid to defend His race either. Liberals are liars and short on facts.

  • @MrBEB123 Its more than narrow minded. Its illogical and unscientific. The human race relies on genetic diversity to survive. And all humans are evidently 'mixed' throughout th epassages of time. These are unescapable facts and your 'race mixing' fears are based on mis-education and simple fear.

  • this song makes me sad

  • He's got a voice that makes you really want to listen too him sing to you.

  • If you really want to hear this song done justice....listen to Adam Lambert's version from the Idol finale. Proves you don't need to be black to sing soul....Adam sings the pants off of this song!!!! God love him!!!

  • @skyprincess100 I don't know who told you that IGNORANT shit, that you have to be black to sing soul, but you probably shouldn't listen to them anymore. They're probably a pretty racist person. Just sayin.

  • This song, whether it is by the late great Sam Cooke, Seal or anybody is one of the most powerful songs ever written. Seal did a great job but when it comes to this song Sam is the man.,

  • Yall bitches hating on my man seal

  • I could fart this song better than this..

  • Seal does a great performance! Gavin DeGraw also did!

  • this is below average... and if you compare it to Sam motherfuckin Cooke.. its outright horrible

  • sam cook for me . this is brilliant but sam is AWESOME

  • Why is there so much racism and hate on a song about change? Who cares if the person who sings it is black, white, yellow, purple, or silver? Just listen to the song. If you don't like the song, who cares? Keep your damn opinion to yourself.

  • @awsome1ok I agree friend, Amen

  • @awsome1ok SO RIGHT, just listen people and enjoy. Life is too short to waste time, trying to stamp the other guy into the ground. Concentrate on the stuff that feels good, like making love, singing and/or playing an instrument :-) smile

  • i love this song :D

  • im sorry but this is soulless and calculated

  • @tiowey you dont know what soul is

  • @Flycrest seal sounds more like a keyboard than a soul singer, there's just a lot better singers out there, tsall im sayin. i personally don't think he did it justice, it's just my opinion, no offense to anyone.

  • Idk Otis Redding did a really great job on the song too. I rank Otis, and Sam cooke quite close. I think Seal did it a bit more smooth style. Where you feel passion of Otis and Sam but they are two legends so not taking anything away from Seal

  • @michaelgalongo Hate seals virgin............

  • From reading all the comments, I think we need to have a contest between Sam Cooke and Seal. I am biased toward Seal, as he is alive, but that is just me.

  • come on bra that shit can stay 2 yo fucking self . . .wat the fuck is up wit u that hatred is old and u probably dont know why u hate certain ppl

  • That Nigger can't sing worth beans. Also I don't like him having mulatto children with a White Woman. I hope that not too many Whites get suckered into listening to crap like this. Seattle Band Child did a version of this song and performed it far better than he did. Give it a listen here on YouTube.

  • @MrBEB123 SEAL is a LEGEND!! What are you??

    A nobody.....a fucking racist cunt..

    Coward!!

  • @lazylyricss He's Garbage. Blacks can't sing.

  • @MrBEB123 hahaha how fucking ignorant you are. You would never say anything of the sort to an african/african americans face.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrBEB123 You racist son of a bitch I'll find you and I'll kill you

  • Cooke*

  • wonderful version of a great song. would have been in his element 40 years ago

  • If you haven't heard Clarence Bekker sing this, you are really missing the best version ever.

  • Who is here because of daddys little girls(:

  • I got chills!

  • @mashinebenz

    Me too :)

  • Same Cooke own this one.To be fair today a very good or great artist is plucked up by a large conglomerate bought and sold.If he can sing in Las Vegas, then the next day he's already a star in China.Sam Cooke probably didn't sell 1 single in China. All the world knows Seal.I've heard his name saw his picture & this is the first time listening to him.Sam Cooke today would be packaged early before having the time to develop as an artist, and pay the price in mediocrity.

  • LINDO!! SAM COOKE IS BEAUTIFULLL!!!

  • One of the most powerful songs ever written. Seal does a great version here.

  • No disrespectg Seal but Sam has got you on this one. Sam has so much feeling you start crying by just listening to the introduction of this song. When he goes into the song you can feel every fiber of your body responding to his voice. Sam was one of a kind in every respect. Those gosped roots definitely paid off.

  • seal has a beautiful voice but the feeling you get from hearing sam cooke is unexplainable

  • Wow! I could literally feel Sam Cooke's spirit coming through Seal... What a beautiful tribute from one legend to another <3

  • Tysssouuuunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn;))))))

    Smile...;)

  • Go HEAR ALOE BLACCs version, its pure talent and live recorded has in him himself sat and recorded it nothing special or nothing, he done it real good, the best ive heard next to sam. But of course they ALL SING it OUTTA RESPECT 4 him, not 2 try 2 up stage sam, like they could. But they get close but this was good. and what happened 2 his face, i alway seen but never googled it or nothin.

  • not even close to sam cooke

  • i listin to sam cook good im sorry hate me im black i love sam cooke but seal made me jizz a little!

  • so smooth love his voice

  • nailed to the wall

  • Seal does this song justice, but nobody did it better than the father of soul, Sam Cooke!

  • @WindyCityJazz you aint never lyin'

  • @WindyCityJazz DISAGREE completely, i think he doesn't do shit for this song, AND OTIS REDDING sings this song the way it was supposed to be sung! -__- smh

  • @sodown4minez NO Shit its his song. covers are usually more difficult to feel than originals

  • @crabbit87 OTIS MOTHERFUCKING REDDING!!!!

  • @sodown4minez OTIS DOES THIS BEST HANDS DOWN NO QUESTIONS.

  • @sodown4minez

    Sam Motherfucking Cooke!!!!!

  • @Guidoradmobile you can eat my ass you nazi fuck!!! otis is "what it is", seal sounds like shit, and sam cooke is "sam motherfucking COOKIE" ;) now get off my dick

  • Terence Trent D'Arby did it better!

  • @WindyCityJazz ...i beg to disagree...Sam did not have the raw, unbridled soul of Otis..and he felt short of Al also...just ma opinion.

  • @Brezinski1000 Nothing wrong with that. We're all entitled to our own opinions :)

  • BEST VERSION. p.s. i still love you sam cooke.

  • Fantastisk sang. I love that<3

  • This is probably the best version I've ever heard.

  • unico

  • Good effort but you always always go back to Sam (persons that REALLY know about music what I'm talking about).
