Such a beautiful song..............................and for every hung up person in the whole wide universe and we gazed upon the Chimes of Freedom flashing. BIBLICAL. And this is a really nice version.
Btw, always loved the Byrds after finding a record years ago in a charity shop but looking for their 20 minute jams - heard something on Planet Rock and was technically amazing!! If you know please Reply - thx
Hi Jimmi! I haven't heard of which you speak but I heard the Byrds live 3 times. Ist time on the Sunset Strip in 1966 (I was 15!); 2nd time as a trio (Notorious Byrd Bros) at Winterland '68 with BB King and Electric Flag; then in '69 at Fillmore West with Clarence White. In 2000 I heard McGuinn solo with his Ric 12 in Denver!
Very good job. An excellent heartfelt rendition of one of my all time favorite songs. Thanks for posting. I don't think that I have ever heard a better version and that is saying something.
the CHIMES OF FREEDOM are for all people, not just some and it is they are not shackled by age or religious belief. The chimes of freedom cross antional boundaries and prejudices. EXCELLENT job,Antarazar
@rakdani Thanks! Yes time periods, beliefs and national boundaries are all actually imaginary; they exist only in minds as collective consensus. This is the great tragedy that such suffering is caused by the stuff 'dreams are made of.'
Great cover, my friend! Great twang from that '12 string Ric'.....This song and My Back pages were my favorites that the Byrds did. Keep up the great work!
@Antarblue Unfortunately, they are not. I remember this song, the original, from my youth. Oh, we thought we could stop it all, didn't we? 50 years on, the stream of refugees across the planet is larger than ever. All we've done is institutionalize it, we have NGOs to 'process' and 'resettle'...but we just keep producing refugees. To quote another Dylan song, "When will we ever learn?"
But a truly beautiful song nonetheless; at least we can carry the hope forward!

Roger -nee Jim- Miguinne always did a better job with Dylan songs than Dylan himself. Mr. Zimmerman would surely agree.

Well, today being Byrds Wednesday, I had to fly right over here and check out your Wednesday Byrds video.
It's a great unknown song and has a good "now" sound to it even though it's from the 60's. Know what I mean?
Thanks Antar!
