Really well performed, but I personaly like the most Lukas Geniusas peformance in choppin competition 2011. Its not on youtube.. Wait.. Type choppin competition in google
everyones interpretation of music is different - I heard this piece recently on r.3 lunchtime concert , it was played by a woman.......and as for me I thought it was awesome , unlike this dissapointing effort.
Does anyone know who this was please ; I believe it was broadcast from Wales ,
Sokolov takes everything and makes it something else musically divine. His Imagination serves a prodigious technique .Their must be a cult for him .Always a surprise. As exciting for me as when a boy i disc for myself Hofmann.Everything he touches!
I have no words for describe my feelings. THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF THIS PIECE THAT I HAVE EVER HEARD!!! I prefer Benedetti Michelangeli for the first movement, but Sokolov' s performance of the Funeral March is incredible.
I searched for this just as something to show my friend what the full version of the "Funeral March" sounds like; I wasn't expecting to come across the best performance of it I've ever heard. A live performance, too. Fantastic.
Raoul Pugno, student of George Mathias, pupil of Chopin. Ok, smithsherman, but has spent more than a century. I think we can be more generous with this magnificent interpretation of Sokolov. A very Great version.
I find this interpretation to be focused spiritually...but woefully lacking in the agogical aspects that bring an interpretation home to the listener.Regards,Me
This is the Raoul Pugno interpetive style from 1903.But unlike Raoul,He doesn't capture the intense bleakness of this. When you've heard Pugno, this seems weak
Smithsherman, you have never listened to Sokolov live of course. Because if you did, you would NEVER dare to say something like that. You would still have chills running down your spine...

The last movement is the most otherwordly piece written. PERIOD. It is so modern, so timeless, so moving.

This Sonata can be played differently of course. But better? I rather doubt that.

At the moment it's hard to find anything better: Il y a Sokolov, et il y a les pianistes. (Le Figaro, Paris, November 2007)

For once Le Figaro is right.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I heard him live last year and he was sickening: over-sweet, sentimental posing in Chopin, and totally off the mark and insipid in Haydn.
