  • I might be wrong but when a zen master hits a student with the stick on the shoulder (which is a common practice in retreats in Japan) it's not because of keeping the student alert but it's a way to eventually frustrate the mind of the "seeker" so that eventually the mind just gets fed up with not finding anything and gives up (so to speak).

  • I'd say the function of talking about reaching some goal is to lure the seeker in a trap and eventually build up the frustration of not finding that which is thought tobe findable. That's how this particular, seeming unfolding goes between the so-called masters and the disciples.

  • @ReefFrog And yes, there is no seeker or a trap. Or rather this "thing" within which the seeker, the luring and the trap seem to happen can't be said to exist or not exist. And all this is "this" when it is this and it's "that" when it's that. And all this is only words, everything is only as it is.

  • fantastic!

  • He did not criticize eckhart....he just said eckhart teaches a person, or to a " you " there is no YOU...

  • I don't think Tony had the right to criticize eckhart. If it wasn't for eckhart I wouldn't be watching this right now. Or so it appears anyway.

  • existence cannot be conceptulized and conceptualization has no author = POWERLESS

  • this guy givea me bad vibes.

  • @mickehill

    thats a pretty good sign

  • So, if you have a message you're a teacher and if you're a teacher then you're not talking about non duality. I do agree we have no say about when we are liberated, so it is a waste of energy looking for it.

  • Hi Tony, I've enjoyed your many videos on nonduality. But I find your criticism of Eckerd Tolle odd.

You both take pains to explain that words are merely pointers at best and shouldn't be taken too literally. Yet you take issue with his use of the word: "presence". How is that any different than your "aliveness"? As someone who's spent a good deal of time listening to you both, may I make so bold as to suggest that you are insufficiently familiar with his teachings?

  • I love TP, but I think he's contradicting himself here, on ET's teachings.

At 2:22 (referring to ET's teachings) he says "one is comforting and helping people" and the other (his own teachings) "point to something beyond that" - but isn't "pointing to something beyond that" suggesting that there is something "else" to be pointed at?

I don't think there is a difference between the teachings. I understood ET's work to be about accepting what is, not about looking for something else.

  • @Frinkle233 There is no sucn thin as accepting or resistance what is. There is just what is/

  • I LOVE YOU TONY, BRO! thank you soooo much, you b*stard!!! :-))))

  • JamesThomas said, "Tony's message doesn't give us anything to hold on to. It's more about "killing" the "me","... Not quite, because he sees there is no "me" to kill. You can't kill what doesn't exist. On the surface, ET's teaching gives the impression there is a "me", and that "me" needs to find the "now". But the deeper teaching is also there. I feel Tony fails to see the deeper teaching. ET dances around it too much, while Tony obviously doesn't

  • Finally I heard a fair opinion about the teaching that makes people think that it is possible to live right and wrong and that there is a way of how to be right. Many people bought into this nonsense.

  • Interesting comments about EckhartTolle, but it's true. We're not likely to see Tony write a book called: Finding Your Life's Purpose.

Perhaps I have enjoyed Tolle's work so much because it does give one a sense of finding something. Whereas Tony's message doesn't give us anything to hold on to. It's more about "killing" the "me", than supporting "me" in any way whatsoever.

Tony's message is frightening, yet can draw one like a moth to a flame.

  • Nothing can be done vs. hearing the message and something happens.

    Can't have it both ways.

  • @rovingdesertfox Nothing can be done about hearing the message and something happening.

  • Tony says it as it is. Other teachers tell stories.

  • thanks a lot for this video!!
