They found their guitar harmony sound by accident, when accidentally two lead tracks on tape were played back at the same time, accidentally playing harmony. The rest is history.
Scott is a REALLY decent guy, and very generous in his treatment of his bandmates. How often do you hear a guitar player, let alone one of his stature, praise another player the way Scott praised Robbo in this interview?
@FreedomZealot They really seem like a band of brothers - I wish they could sort out their differences and play again. They were very good with Vinnie Moore last say, needless to say!
robbo has a bit of a chip on his shoulder me thinks..................he was a great player back then though.................but there's a chip on the shoulder...!
@music8stuart maybe rightfully so? he was shit hott. and got maybe 2 songs to his credit. that would make me feel, as a musician. like i wasnt a part?
There is no doubt that Gorham was the second lead and that Robo, Gary and Snowy were more accomplished players. But Gorham aways provided "tasty" leads that meshed with the music and still had an edge. Moreover, Gorham and Robo's styles worked so well together.
The problem with Snowy, in my opinion, was that his style was a little too much like Gorham's and did not offer the contrast or intensity of Robo, Gary or Sykes. In fact, Gorham was the "heavier" guitar when Snowy was in the band.
Saw them in 1982 and 1983. Was fortunate enough to work near to where Brian hung out for a few years, used to love spending my lunchtime listening to him play - been to the Vibe in Dublin a few times, if you have not been then you should!
Really interesting video - strange to see them so old, but then I look in the mirror and I see that I have grown older too! Got some f**ing great memories though!!! :)
Brian is right, they weren't given enough credit for their contribution or the chemistry of that lineup with publishing royalties . Scott wasn't as accomplished as Brian to start off with but my god he soon became a beautiful player with his own unique voice - listen to his solo on Fool's Gold. Always pay attention to publishing and contribution.
This just reinforces my faith that Phil was incredible at music. He knew a great guitarist that suited the band at just one jam. Scott's one of the most influential guitarists in the band. Thanks ;)
