I really miss those cranes. Since I made that video, the company went out of business and all the equipment was sold at auction to overseas buyers. The new company I am working for has much more modern equipment, which does have its advantages.
dragging that air hose is a bitch sometime! when i was doing te piledriving thing i totally wanted to make a video of it especially when i was in a manlift unhooking the sheet pile for the vibratory hammer. the view of the crane and shit from that high would have been neat, nice to know someone else rocks out to queen on the commute back from work. good job with the video man.
Hi and sorry I didn't respond sooner. The smoke you see coming from the hammer is the compressed air being expelled. It isn't smoke at all. It is just the air that pushes the piston up and when it reaches the vents, the weight falls. You can really see it because it was so cold out that day. I hope that answers your question. If it doesn't, please send me another message.
I know, even in the small state of Connecticut, my company is the smallest. The crane you see is a Manitowoc 2300. I didn't know they made a crane that small. What kind of equipment did you run?
Hi and thanks for watching my video! We use one line of the crane to hoist the hammer and the other line to hoist up the pile. Then someone climbs up and guides the pile into the hammer. If you look closely, you can see me do it. I hope this answers your question. If it doesn't, please email me as I love to talk about pilings and driving them.
The piles on this particular job only went down about 15 to 20 feet. They can be that shallow because we were driving piles for a residential house, which didn't weigh very much. From hooking up a pile to actual pile completion took about 10, maybe 15 minutes. Again thanks for watching and keep driving piles!

Thanks. We were missing a man that day, so I usually don't have to worry about it. I wish I had more chances to bring a camera to work.
