  • I like the music

  • It looks really good but the music is F*CKING ANNOYING.

  • someone needs to perform an exorcism on that girl 1:04

  • French suck at cartoons. Why is those things?

  • @quakerninja

Because people like you prefer watching crappy Nickelodeon cartoons.

  • @AGSMAentretainment I don't like Nickelodeon, but I think they did good job with Avatar the last airbender

  • @quakerninja

Actually, American sucks at cartoons. Japan, France, Russia, German and maybe Canada have better cartoons.

  • I just saw this a few weeks ago although there is barely any dialogue in it it's still beautifully done and the animation is well, manifique!

  • theres a weird thing on this trailer, what happens to the girl´s head at 1:04, really odd movement ... hehe

Despite that, its really amazing to find this now, just discovered Tati´s movies, perfect timing for a release... hehe

Eager to watch this film now....

  • @Atomsk87 oh man thats soo cool that you noticed! I think the images for the girl got inverted, I think they meant for her head to turn left and then look back at the illusionist. I wonder how that happened

  • @Atomsk87 or actually it seems they didn't draw enough frames for her!

  • Seems like there's been some discussion on this subject, and here's my contribution:

This film is mostly classic 2D animation. Whether the characters are painted digitally or traditionally doesn't matter, as they are clearly animated frame by frame by hand. BUT, they also make brilliant use of beautiful 3D celshaded objects, like the old car and the trains at some scenes. It's simply brilliant, admirable and albeit Toy Story 3 was a great film, I'd wish this one to get the Oscar. (maybe it did?)

  • I just saw this over the weekend it's fantastic as there is no real dialogue or need for sub title and it's all handrawn is even more beautiful! A ten plus in my books!

  • I just saw this, I feel so depressed now.. I thought this story was going to be magical and enchanting. The animation is wonderful but it was very different than what I imagined the story to be.

  • It looks OK for a Oscar-nominee, but I still hope that Toy Story 3 wins Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards. If this was released the U.S., I'm sure I would have seen it, but all I have to go on is this trailer. Even wikipedia doesn't have a plot on this movie. What's it about?

  • looks like a Professor Layton game.

  • Thanks for the Spoiler Alert!!

  • @sw204me well first off.. it's actually hand drawn.. I'm sure toy story 3 is great and all, actually pixar is one of my favorite companies.. nothing gives you the right to make worthless comments.. I'm one step closer to arthritis now, because of you..

  • @DIRECTORshane hand drawn lol, no most this is done with computers

  • @sw204me Because this was handrawn and animation of this kind is becoming rare because of, CGI's! Plus if you took sometime to watch original, Disney cartoons they too were handrawn!

  • @deepbreakfast1960 The new Winnie the Pooh is going back to that, 100% hand animation, no CGI of any kind.

  • @sw204me it didn't. What did the Illusionist beat TS3 in?

  • @saretardedfilms - atmosphere

  • @saretardedfilms atmosphere

  • Needs more CGI lol jk amazing animation.

  • beautiful

  • i saw this today at the Savannah film festival

it was a beautiful movie with an amazing story that was told with pretty much no dialog

one of my favorite animated films, now i need to see triplets of belleville

  • the hotel he says in at Edinburgh is just round the corner from my house!

  • looking forward with great anticipation.

  • This is without a doubt one of the greatest animation films I've ever seen.

  • the animation is Unbelliveble. What an art.

  • I Love Silvain Chomet animation style, cant wait to see this movie

  • I'm going next week!

  • i watched it yesterday, its funny and sad at the saame time

  • @BIGGERMOFO not normal at all

  • The film is not in any language, particularly - it's close to a silent movie, with occasional words in a variety of languages, some of them invented. The speaking of any language, or none at all, will not detract from your enjoyment of the film - in much the same way that not understanding the made up language of Sigur Ros' lyrics will not diminish your enjoyment of their music.

  • is this film in French? I'm looking to take my 5 year old cousin, is it suitable?

  • @pirateninjagabs yeah its pg

  • Saw the film last night - loved it - such beautiful animation.

  • gotta c this!

  • spectacular !!! movie is beautifull. it's a verry beautifull story line. it's not a type of movie were all kind of actions happens. just about ordinary people like us.

  • Just fabulous.

  • This looks like an amazing film. I can't wait.

  • C´est magnifique trés jolie

  • this movie looks beautiful! can't wait!

  • The animation looks like a cross between Amine and a disney production.

I cant wait to catch this on bluray

  • I've been waiting for this movie ever since I saw the Les Triplettes de Belleville. Now, having seen the trailer, I think it's safe to say The Illusionist will be just as spectacular of a film!

  • Gotta nice mix of late 60's disney animation and Ralph Bakshi..with a little computer work in the mix, Looks Good.

  • Wow this has some 50s Feel.

  • Just saw it the Melbourne Film Festival. It was heartbreakingly beautiful.

  • This movie looks so beautiful. I'm itching to see it!

  • beautiful animation, masterfull.

  • my uncle animated some of this! :)

  • The hotel in Edinburgh little joe's hotel is in fact called the Broughton hotel it belongs to myself and my wife Freddie & Fiona please come and stay with us. see it on the web.

  • @discofred57 I walked past the Broughton every day on my way home from my animation work on the Illusionist, crossing the bridge into Old Town. I even went in and looked around once and it is a grand place. I miss Edinburgh.

  • I love this animation. It's beautiful, fluid, aesthetically pleasing...

I was surprised when I saw a budget of 13 million euros for a 2 dimensional animation... but now I see why... the quality is well worth the cost and the wait. (unlike those crummy half-baked animes animators are typically reduced to watching for study...) still waiting on the US release though?

  • It's got that 70's early 80's Ralph Bakshi look to it. I like it.

  • This looks beautiful! Does anyone know the name of the song used in this trailer?

  • I saw it at Berlinale. Really liked it, animation was beautiful

  • i have seen this film , and it is absalutely terrible, i know it looks good by the trailer, but it has a bad storyline, and has no speaking in it, exceot for a few words in french . i am 11 and i certainly did not get any of it, even though the animations are amazing ,sorry , but i just thought it was awful .

  • @annaandlizzieshow1

because you are young. Wait until you get mature.

  • @Dramactica yeah u r probably right :p

  • its dying cause it sucks

  • sounds like a good story, though I feel like crying just reading about it.

    Awesome animation!

  • I can't wait to see it. Loved Les Triplettes so I've got my hopes up for this movie.

  • Oh my god... its like an Old Disney Film! I LURVE IT!

  • Coming to about three theaters nationwide! Bloody US market...

  • Looks like a masterpiece like The Triplets of Belleville. Don't you agree may wee? :D

  • insanely detailed animation. amazing

  • впечатляет!

  • Oh my! Must see!

  • Do want!

  • does anyone know the song used in the trailer?

  • Saw this at the Edinburgh Festival Gala Screening. Beautifully animated and drawn! Fantastic! :)

  • The animation is beautiful!! I can't wait! :D

  • sick ass artwork

  • Rock stars? Not hardly. Not until at least 30 years later.

  • WOW!

  • very interesting and entertaining film..

  • Beautiful *-*

  • Been following the progress on this for ages and very eager to see it - and tonight at the Edinburgh Film Festival, I will! Looks wonderful.

  • Sexy Riyaad approves.

  • looks like a great movie but i think it would be an even greater point & click adventure ;D

  • @MegaGuitarfreak91 Haha I kept watching and thinking "OMG PROFESSOR LAYTON"

  • @MegaGuitarfreak91

First thing I thought of when I saw this was, did they have a game artist do the backdrops?

  • @MegaGuitarfreak91

It does look a bit like that with all the side on scenes, doesn't it?

I thought it was a point and click when my friend sent me some screens, I'm sure it'll be a good movie.

  • @MegaGuitarfreak91 Yeah, Because the art and camera angle look so much like the art in The Curse of Monkey Island game.

  • @MegaGuitarfreak91 You sir, have great taste. =) It reminded me a lot of The Broken Sword: Shadow of The Templars/Circle of Blood point and click adventure from the 90s. 2d animation will always have a particular charm and grace. When it comes to fully animated films, 3d isn't a step up, despite what many people think, it's simply an interesting step to the side.

  • Amazing!!

    Take this, Miyazaki and Disney!!

  • @papidroguiloriginal I'd say take this Disney for putting hand drawn animation on the back burner for all these years, stuff like this and Studio Ghibli's output really show that the work that goes into hand drawn animation shows in quality for story as well. I'd say take that CG animation.

  • @nethaneld There is plenty of CG used in Chomet's films, including this one.

  • Wonderful. Looking forward to it, very much.

  • Love Tati so this is welcome!

  • SO BEAUTIFUL FFFFF i am so excited

  • Triplets is my favorite animated film of all-time. This looks like it's going to challenge it.

  • Good lord, this looks amazing!

    .

More drawn artwork in animation, please, animation-people?

  • That looks like a cute kids cartoon.

  • Haha! the drunk guy at 0:38 :P i LOVE the details in this!

  • There's barely any dialogue in Belleville either which is one of the things (one of many) that made it so charming. I kind of hope that this continues in the same vein - animation as mime - and that would be fitting with the Tati connection too.

  • can't help myself...FIRST!In all honesty though, it does look good

  • Lovely to see Tati's work being tried by someone who understands and loves it. Look forward to seeing Mr. Hulot again.

  • interesting

  • That's interesting. There's no dialogue in this trailer. Anyway, this looks amazingly well done. It's so nice to see classic style animation.

  • loved tripplettes, this looks just as good!
