  • My partner has watched your videos since she got her ileostomy and I just wanted to let you know how much they helped her learn to live with it. Just wanted to let you know that you have made a difference and through your pain you've been able to able to help others! Thanks Dennis!!

  • after takedown what are the changes in diet? can you eat salad and stuff again? also how about absorption, do you take vitamins?

  • thanks so much for posting these videos. I just had a temporary ileostomy done two weeks ago. thank god mind will only be in for 12 weeks. this was the 6th surgery this year and hopefully the reversal will be the last. thanks again for all of the information! Melisia

  • Dennis, did they remove the colon at the same time they gave you the ileostomy? Thank you for all the information! Eva

  • @IVONEY2009 Yes, they removed my colon and gave me an ileostomy. Second surgery, they removed my rectum, constructed a J-pouch, and gave me a new diverting loop ileostomy. Then the third surgery was the takedown.

I have other videos chronicling my entire surgery process if you are interested.

  • Hey, im Claude, im 17, had an illestomy since june this year...im planning on the reversal in july 2010...do u regret having it, or would u say its worth it?? cheers

  • Hi Claude, I have zero regrets about my J-pouch. I recommend the surgery to many people, but with some conditions. First, it's not without risks or possible complications, so you'll want to take that into consideration. Second, to get a J-pouch working fully takes several months, up to a year, so you need to have patience. Finally, while I find it easier to deal with than an ileostomy, having a J-pouch does not replace your missing colon. The two aren't the same thing.

  • Thank you for providing this information. People are scared and nervous about having surgery. You provide comfort in knowing what is to be expected, thank you.
