I'm sorry, but this crap doesn't do if for me. He sounds like he's got his balls tangled up in his drawers. The atmosphere with glittering lights may be hypnotic, but I'm still conscious enough to know this shit sucks a big one. OMG, where is the sponteniety The Beatles are known for?
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about- He's playing it In A as usual, but the Guitar is tuned down a full step (DGCFAD) as that Is the Tuning used for Jenny Wren (and Yesterday, of course) . His Electric versions are still In Standard.
It's standard tuning. The same way they played it back in the 60's. Open string tuning didn't come along for many years later - late 80's or early 80's I think.
Paul is tuned down one whole step to make the guitar sound lower so that he could sing it more comfortably. His voice is not what it once was (it is a bit lower) so he simply tuned down. Hendrix, Van Halen (with David Lee Roth at least) etc. did it all of the time.
As for open tuning. It has been around for a hundred years if not many more. Look up Son House and you will see that he is in open-G tuning. There are many old blues number that use it and they are on YouTube.
I have been trying to perfom this song, and I can't figure out the tunning guitar; I only know that is the same guitar that Paul uses also in jenny wren song, so maybe it wolud be a half step down, cause I did try and sounds good to me with half; but when i play it, just doesn't sound like the video.
I've seen him do this song in its original form live several years after this, yes his voice has changed, but he can still do the original version, it appears in this version he just wanted a more low key, ambient feel. It's not a question of ability, just preference for this specific venue.
It is tuned down a whole step, but not necessarily because it is easier for him to sing (he just did this song at Coachella '09 in the correct key/tuning). It's tuned down because this performance was filmed at the same time "Chaos and Creation" was released. "Jenny Wren" is on that album and is tuned down a whole step, like "Yesterday" was over 40 years ago. He performed "Jenny Wren" during this performance and used the same guitar. I agree his voice is not what it used to be, though.

i watched macca at liverpool in june doing 'day in the life' which thet never did as the beatles.a true lennon/maccartney track.made my hairs stand on end,an he was very moved by some of the old songs he played....so long may he contine doing old stuff,it isnt a 'convenience' to please the crowd...he actually loves what he's doin at the min...i have seen it for myself.watch him on utube playing'here today' live in LA about john lennon..he starts to cry.

Yes, this was probably one of the last great real joint compositions by John and Paul. This version is interesting though, as you can imagine that it could have ended up on Macca's first solo album in this form - still a good song, but made so much stronger by John's counterpoint, that is absent from this track. It's good that Paul chooses not to sing John's part here - can only wonder who or what he's thinking about as he sings it...
I believe Paul does know that the "magic" stopped when The Beatles broke up. Without John writing, playing and singing along side him, it just isn't the same. I am sure John thought the same. Either way, I believe this is a loving tribute by Paul to his mate, John.
Paul did not do this as a tribute to John. since the song is actually pieces of three unfinished songs. Two by John, titled Everybody Had A Hard Year and Watching Rainbows, and Pauls unfinished I've Got A Feeling, which was written about Linda. They just crammed the songs together in the studio during the Let It be sessions.
as john said in one of his songs "i don't believe in beatles. i just believe in john." he may have really felt that way, he might have not. either way, i'm sure paul doesn't feel the same. some good thoughts
I wish that the two remaining Beatles would go out with class and stop doing The Beatles songs over & over & over & over. Trust me, Lennon would be pissed!
You know, Macca wouldn't do Beatles for years...then he found it a convenient way to make audiences happy and have some fun too,as his wings stuff was running out of gas. And he still is a good performer, so what do you complain about?

Sorry, I don't recall you, but I'll take you on. Here's my 'two cents'....
Paul & Ringo should shut it down soon on The Beatles, everybody on across the universe knows that they are number one & will always be number one. I just think that Paul has overkilled alot of these classic songs, something I doubt the founder of The Beatles and biggest Beatle of them all would never have done. The great 'Hey Jude' live is all done and the silly Paul ending has ruined it forever. (now just the men)

Sorry, but I don't recall who you are? Here's my two cents..
It's fuckin time for Sir Paul & No Sir Ringo to stop doing same old same old Beatles songs over & over, stop going on lame tv talk shows & talking Beatles!
Everybody across the universe knows that they will never be topped. Sir Paul has destroyed the great 'Hey Jude' especially with that SILLY SHIT at the end. Lennon would kiss his veggie arse for overkilling these great songs. Paul's becoming a 'One Set Wonder'
Haha, my two cents are: I still enjoy them, I rather see them doing that than nothing at all. Paul's been corny all the way since 1970, so why complain...
Yep... I guess he had his facelifting alright. Maybe I just belong to the ones that'll forget him everything, except his nosiness at times. As for Ringo, he has aged well and I like his AllStarr band. Have you seen Jack Bruce with Peter Frampton and Ringo? Amazing...
I'd call it synergy, where the sum is greater than parts. They complimented each other perfectly. And no, neither one was as great without the others, George and Ringo were an essential part of the cocktail.
YOU ARE NOTHING. You're the king of stupid comments, please shut up man, and listen to the music, if you don't undesrstand it, listen to the Backstreet Boys.
I love that acoustic version. And I've got a feeling too! I have got the feeling that Paul is an amazing guy!!! :D

do left handed guitarists re-string their guitar so all the strings are switched?

they either do that, or buy left handed guitars

in this case, it's re-strung. As you can see the pick guard the other way.
