Anyone that has served in the Marine Corps and trained in 29 Palms (29 Stumps) has to get a good laugh at this song. Those who have been there know what I'm talking about...
Well thank you for those kind words- I never hear that anymore. A little shocking even... As far as 29 Palms- AKA "29 Stumps"; just ask any Marine that's been there. Its a real place alright...
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
Look at the album cover and read the liner notes/inspiration of the album. We are there man, the earth is melting man. Buy some black Nikes with a white swoosh, chop your balls off, move to LA, drink some "Kool Aid", and wait for the spaceship behind the next comet.
I was working in the piss stop to Vegas, Barstow. Took off on a Saturday morning ended up in 20 Palms to eat lunch, few drinks. Hooked up with and NCO in the Marines, I drank more that night than a sane man should. Beat every Marine I played pool with that night. We ended the night in his Jeep both singing American Pie to the radio. On of the coolest days of my life. Won't forget it.
Fate of Nations, really didn't like it that much when it came out as I was younger and more into heavier music. But damn, as I get older it is one of my favorite discs.

This is one of the most sensual, sexual songs I've ever heard, yet incredibly romantic at the same time. Long live Robert Plant. What woman wouldn't want a song like that written about her?
@digenovafilm Noooo...he doesnt need Page at all...quite a successful solo career, especially up to this stage,1993....Page hadnt & still hasnt done anything of significance since 1979..some might even say since Achilles last stand in 76...thats a life time ago...Jimmy faded and couldnt keep up dude...he was exposed...where as Plant surged fwd and succeded in his own right...that douchebag Page then dragged Plant backwards in the early 90's cos the cunt had no career to do that Unledded crap
@TheMicturation Wow bro, I understand saying that Page wasn't the whole reason for Zep's success, but saying Page couldn't keep up is ridiculous. Page brought the band together, and wrote most of the music. (Plant did the lyrics) Jimmy Page just decided he'd had enough. Believe it or not, most people can live very comfortably on the pile of money he had by 1979. Some people like to retire and chill. lol
I dated a girl from Twentynine Palms. Given that I am from the San Francisco Bay Area, it was really different; a huge culture shock when I stayed with her. If you ever find yourself there, look at the stars at night. They're unrivaled. Aside from that, it's pretty dead. Haha
This song was toward his Ex, Alannah Myles, a singer from Canada, believe or not. True! He admitted it in a interview. She's the one who sang "Black Velvet. Amongst other songs. Check her out. They dated for 3 years. Too bad they never had a duet at least.
I remember driving through twenty nine palms, and I just luckily had Fate of Nations by Robert Plant. I put Twenty Nine Palms on and cranked it up. That was a great night.
