Well they would have to keep increasing the pressure in the capsule in response unless the capsule would fold under pressure as well and burst. I don't see why they used styrofoam cups if they were measuring pressure though. I mean it should have been some type of pressure device, probably on the capsule. The information that they received by using styrofoam cups is What effect the pressure had on styrofoam. Maybe it was just a comparison of pressure between the air at different levels and water
